The 80's --How do you feel?

Postby Sheenar » Sat May 02, 2009 7:31 pm

A friend and I both enjoy 80's music and making fun of the styles back then.

So that made me curious.

What do you guys think of the decade of mullets, leg warmers, big hair rock bands, and Hammer Pants?

Just for lulz.

For the most part, I'm indifferent, but the hairstyles and clothing styles need to stay locked away there forever, or need only be brought out for the lulz. XD

I didn't grow up then (I was only born in the '90s.) but I like the music and think it would have been an interesting time to grow up in.

I'm indifferent for the pure reason that I was only alive for one year of the 80s...hard to judge an era you didn't live through...

That.

However, there are some decent 80s tunes, I'll admit. When there were several SingStar games out to choose from, I knew surprisingly few of the songs, except that I knew a fair few of the SingStar 80s songs well! So it shows what I know about modern mainstream music...

I like 80's New Wave music. But I think that most of the fashion should be kept dead.

That's...an interesting picture...You know, the more that I think about it, the more I realize that I can judge a decade I didn't live through. This sums up my feelings about the 80s...

DUDE, that shirt is awesome!

I hate to admit this, but I actually think the El Camino is kind of cool --in a tacky sort of way.
I so wanted to buy one of those mullet wigs they had at WalMart for Halloween--just because the idea is so hilarious (Joe Dirt, anyone?).

Aw, Lucky. : ( Rick Astley was actually early 90s, though he's clearly inspired by an 80s aesthetic.

Oh come on there was great stuff in the 80's. Think about it:
--In comics, we had several great stories: Jason Todd's death, The Crisis on Infinite Earths, Secret Wars, and Spider-man's Black Costume to name a few.
--Star Wars was still considered great instead of a joke.
--Van Halen and Def Leppard, two of the greatest rock bands, started off their great careers.
--we had great tv shows: Alf, Full House, Star Trek: TNG, Punky Brewster, YOu Can't Do That on Television, to name a few I watched religiously.
--MTV still played music instead of stupid reality shows.

There was some good music in the 1980's, as well as a few good movies. The hairstyles and the clothes, however, were the horrendous.

Let's see, I dropped out of college (music major), got married, got my drafting degree from tech school, got my first white-collar job, got back into college (engineering major). Pretty important time in my life.

I think the 80s were cooler than some people think. Remember, the 80s gave us Metallica and Guns n' Roses. On the other hand, the 80s also gave you me, so . . . yeah. I guess it balances.
