1 Corinthians 10:23

I actually like this verse a lot. Many people have brought it up to me as a reminder of "stop worrying", which I know I do, but...eh. I guess I at least wanted to ask one question. Since this verse does help me decide many things in my life and get on ok with them, I almost had that second thought of "am I even understanding it right?" Like, am I just giving myself an answer -I- want to hear?

So if it's ok, I just at least want to ask. I always took the wording as just another way of saying "just because you're forgiven, don't keep sinning". Is this about right? I also took it as another way of putting aside all the Old Testament traditions. Like...instead of saying "you all have to stop watching anime because two people are bothered by it" you say "everyone can watch anime except those bothered by it". In other words...you base it off what you can handle. Obviously Paul talks about mixed company, I get that. Don't do something that bothers your brother or sister. However, if watching a show where somebody lies doesn't make me wanna go out and lie, then it's ok for me. I just have to watch how it effects me.

So is this about right? Sorry for asking, but I feel knowing this will definitely help me feel better overall.

That sounds about right. Like I and many others have said countless times before, focus on you and God and He will guide you in what is right and wrong in your life.

Please don't get so paranoid about everything. God gives as a spirit of peace, not fear. You'd do well just to talk things through with people in real life, take some time out in nature, just think things through.
It's good to question but not healthy at all to work yourself up over these things. I wish you the best. You sound like you're on the right track.

Momo, whenever you're stumped by a certain verse's meaning, read on.
The other verses surrounding it are there for a reason and can most often answer some of these questions.

For example, hopping down to verse 30 in Corinthians 10, it says: So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

(the between verses explain a bit to, but this in the main one I wanted to point out).

How does this relate to the verse you posted? The first verse you mentioned had to do with freedom in Christ. You're on the right track, but it's more telling us that, yes, you can sin because you are forgiven, but sinning will harm you and get you into huge messes. (not beneficial, in other words)
And, the verse I posted gives you the, instructions, for lack of a better word, to avoid "un-beneficial" acts, by glorifying the Lord in everything you do.

Whenever you do have any doubts about a meaning of a passage, pray and ask God to show you the true meaning. Then listen for His response, he will answer. ^_^
