Nico Nico Douga essential videos?

Postby minakichan » Thu Mar 19, 2009 5:30 pm

I've been falling behind on all the Nico memes and videos-- for one, I've barely seen any of the Vocaloid songs, and I really don't what's really big right now. I want to catch up now... What Nico vids do I just HAVE to watch as an otaku (and aren't totally inappropriate), and which ones are really good?

I know this is a weird request, but it's like there's a world out there that I want to be apart of ^^
~Thanks~

I suppose I will start out by posting the video that I currently have on repeat...

For Vocaloid songs, I usually just try and Google the current week's Vocaloid rankings video each week. As for specific songs, the Kagamine Rin song "MELTDOWN" was pretty big for a couple of weeks and ryo/supercell's Hatsune Miku song "Hajimete no koi ga owaru toki" was at the top for a while too. Other than that, there was the week that Megurine Luka got released and swamped the rankings for a week or two.

As for things that aren't Vocaloid songs, I can't really help there with anything specific. I usually just browse on the top viewed videos on weekly or monthly once in a while unless I get linked to something, which is usually good enough to cover what's been making the rounds on the nihongonese internets.

Oh, also, it's not "essential", but as a reply to the first song in this thread: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T4bNRVVixvo

If you can't read Japanese and have Greasemonkey installed, you should get Mylingual, which automatically translates a bunch of navigation stuff on the site.

That Black Rock Shooter video reminded me of how much I love the album version (but not as much as Melt and Hajimete no koi ga owaru toki) and made me wish I could buy the supercell album.

@ Midori: Ooh, Black Rock Shooter is great~ I hear there's a figurine of it coming out, it's gorgeous. I personally think Miku can get a little annoying, but that song is beautiful!
(Also, Luigi Danjo = AWESOME!)

@ blkmage: Amazing~! *_* oooh~

Yeah, I usually like the other VOCALOID2 voices (Rin, Len, and Luka) more than Miku, but, those guys at supercell know how to make awesome stuff.

Should just use this as a Nico Nico Douga megathread?

Here are some immediate standouts from looking at the top monthly mylist ranking and my recently viewed videos:

http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/nm6049209 - "Double Lariat", a Megurine Luka song
http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm5992615 - "RIP=RELEASE", another Megurine Luka song
http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm6026603 - "THE MEDLEY OF POKEMON RGBY+GSC", a medley like the huge Kirby medley from a while back.
http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm6231060 - A video of that cat making fried rice, set to Double Lariat
http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm6183148 - A really cute Luka song
http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm6347516 - A Hatsune Miku song featuring a PV with a live stuffed bear
http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm6040129 - Dancing Takoluka
http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm5602903 - The Kagamine Rin song, "MELTDOWN"

And this week's VOCALOID rankings (#76): http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm6456282

初音ミクの消失 (the disappearance of Hatsune Miku)
There are various videos to go along with this, if you want to search for them. There are some english-subtitled versions on youtube too.

And one that isn't a vocaloid song. This is necessary for completion:
組曲『ニコニコ動画』 (niconicodouga medley)
See if you can figure out where all the songs are from.
And here's the requisite Automatic Mario version.
I was looking for a particular chorus version, but I didn't find it (because there are too many).

EDIT: And Takoluka is exceedingly creepy.

So what's new this week?

http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm6476099 - We've got a new one of that guy in the horse mask who records himself playing six instruments and puts the videos together.
http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm6413676 - It's a pretty awesome Kinetic Typography video of Toradora's first OP, Pre-Parade.
http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm6493884 - This week's top VOCALOID song, "stray girl in her lenses".
