Favorite Comedy Relief characters

Postby rocklobster » Sat Mar 28, 2009 2:32 pm

Who are your favorite comedy relief characters in anime? Here are mine:
Ed in Cowboy Bebop (such a crazy and loveable character!)
Millie Thompson in Trigun (She seems like she isn't too bright, but every once in a while, she proves otherwise.)
Kana in Haibane Renmei (she helps keep the show from being too serious)
Naruto (I actually think this guy's pretty funny)

Kensuke Aida from "Neon Genesis Evangelion" - Gun Otaku...

Asapin from "His and Her Circumstances" - He's such a big flirt, and he has a lot of funny lines; especially when he plays against straight-laced Arima.

Tsuruya from "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya" - Just listening to her laugh is enough to make my day!

Pandaikon from "Nerima Daikon Brothers" - His lines only go as far as "Mew"... but he says so much for so little!

Taishi from "Comic Party" - "MY BROTHER!" Nuff said. Anyone notice that Liam O'Brien tends to gravitate towards comic relief characters?

Gaku from "FLCL" - If you remember the group of friends Naota hung out with--Gaku was the one with the glasses. Two words--"SMOOCH!!! SMOOCH!!!"

Lemmy from "ToHeart" - It always makes me laugh whenever I see the stereotypical "Japanese Girl Return to Japan from America" character.

Mokoto from "Boys Be" - DARN YOU FOR PLAYING GREAT COMEDY RELIEF CHARACTERS SO WELL LIAM O'BRIEN!!!!

Nabeshin from "Excel Saga" - Who cares if he isn't a main character--he's the director!

Minoru from "Lucky Star" - "MIYAGI-SAN!!!!!" Nice shout out to the Karate Kid!

Adashino from "Mushishi" - Not that many recurring characters, but whenever he teams up with Ginko, there's always one or two moments that you just have to laugh at.

Moondoggie from "Eureka Seven" - If there's one scene in "Eureka Seven" that I love above any other it's the first time we hear Moondoggie speak. It's a combination of gansta and surfer as only he can do it.

Those three guys(Im really sorry I can't remember their names from the top of my head) from episode 37(I think that's the episode. Warehouse 13.) of FMA.

Issac and Miria from Baccano! They are just too funny in the most gruesome of surroundings!

Ed from Cowboy Bebop.

Taishi from Comic Party.

If I think of more, I'll come back.

Matsuda from Death Note, who was actually my favorite character in that series (tied with L). <3333 I just love him.

For Bleach... Hanatarou, Ganju, Keigo and Mizuiro. x3 Although Hana and Ganju have enough dramatic, heart-wrenching moments that they're more than *just* comic relief, they're still pretty funny. And Hana's my favorite character, period.

Everyone's mentioning Ed from Cowboy Bebop, but what about Ein? Together, those two make one of anime's greatest comedy duos!

Third season I think, first disk, extras. There's a scene with the two girls lying on the floor from one of the episodes, and Kenshin says, "Passed out drunk again." It's hilarious!

On topic, I really don't enjoy most relief characters, but I did like Kuwabara from Yu Yu Hakusho.

To state the obvious: Isaac and Miria. Pure genious.

others would be:

Hanagata from Saber Marionette J
Suisei Seki from Rozen Maiden
Mikuru Asagina from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
Kenji Harima from School Rumble, no wait, scratch that, the whole cast

I couldn't think of Pino as a comedy relief, more of an "awwwww" relief. And even so, with the tone of the series, every time Pino appeared I was afraid that she'd die and I couldn't relax.

I often dislike the comic relief characters in anime, unfortunately. They are usually too caricatured for my taste. However, Urd and Skuld in "Ah, My Goddess" are huge favorites.

Normally, I don't approve calling main characters 'Comic Relief' characters. That title generally belongs to those who are in the story primarily for the comic roll (like Taishi in Comic Party). However, in Full Metal Panic, the entire series shifts from serious to cartoon and back constantly, and the Souseke/Kaname team during the cartoon periods is some of the best comic relief ever.
May the Lord bless you and keep you.
May He cause His face to shine upon you.
May He lift up His countenance and grant you peace.

EricTheFred: Vikings are always a valid answer.
