Security Warning!!

Postby Sparrowhawk » Thu Dec 18, 2008 9:30 am

ATTN!

This may belong in the Tech forums, but its an issue that if your on CAA may affect you.

A security flaw just discovered a few days ago in I.E. 7, but they say 6 and 5 could also have it, allows hackers access into files without downloading anything, something about a "zero-day" flaw. I don't know much about it, but the story from abc is here:

http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/wireStory?id=6470668

and Microsoft's statement and ways to avoid until they can issue a patch are here:

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/advisory/961051.mspx

It is my understanding that they plan on releasing a patch today and if you have automatic updating turned on you will get the patch as soon as it becomes available, if not you will need to be checking for it.

Sorry again if this is the wrong area, but I figured everyone should know since I.E. is the most used browser.

"The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say."

Yes, I use Safari on my Macbook and Firefox on my pc desktop, but I.E. 7 is still used by a lot of ppl and most businesses (my guess as to why it is the most-used is due to businesses - i know my employer took months to convince to allow us employees to download firefox)

IE was my very first web browser ^ ^ It started crashing alittle more and more everyday, so I moved on to FireFox, but it started doing the same thing, so the search for the perfect web browser continues on u_u/

And eventually you will find Opera, and your search will be complete.

Update anyway, though, because more things on your computer use IE than you realize.

Opera seems to be more stable for me, but that couild be because I've been jumping around web browsers so much. That I don't give it enough time to crash on me D:<

One thing to remember, no matter what web browser that you use. Don't think that is the end all browser and think that you go to every web site and think that you are safe and will not be a virus from it.

Just a note to Firefox users, don't put too many add-on, because it can slow down your browser over time.
