Yes, it was in the
last ep
Oh! Edo Rocket has so many of those moments, it's great. It's more about the context of these situations...they just come out of nowhere.

Like in this screenshot:

When that popped out, I was just going, what. I played it back 3 times just to make sure it actually happened. Then cracked up.

What also really got me were the
Gurren Lagann references littered in toward the end. It warmed my heart; drills and Kamina glasses in a historical show? Ha ha ha.

I have several "What The Heck Just Happened?!" Moments:

"Fullmetal Alchemist" -
I was sitting in bed eating Chex mix the night I saw Hughes die...I was seriously jumping in my bed like "Awww, man! Awww, man! They killed him!"
"Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water" -
The last episode prologue really threw me...So...Marie married Sanson and now they're expecting?! Umm...by my calculations, she's only 17 or 18 and he's got to be in his LATE 30's! Age gap, anyone?
"Planetes" Episode 6: "The Lunar Flying Squirrles - You know, "Planetes" is the most realistic space-set anime I've ever seen and the most accurate portrail of Earth's future...so to see a bunch of guys dressed as Ninja jumping and flying through Lunar space does make for a "NANI?!" moment. It's still funny as all heck, though.

"Lucky Star" - Episode 1. The first scene in the classroom when the girls are talking about how to eat and prepare their favorite foods. I remember sitting in bed wondering "What in the world did I just invest in?" It was such an offbeat sequence, so out of the ordinary...yet so addictive! Also, the trailer for "Lucky Star" on the last volume of "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya".

Super MIlk Chan was definitely an entire What the heck moment. The whole series is so stupid, I can guarantee that your brain cells will cry in agony when you watch it.

My brain cells were crying with laughter! Milk-Chan was HILARIOUS! But yes, at first it was a big "quirk-your-head-to-one-side-in-confusion" moment.

Eureka SeveN had SO many of those. xD Particularly, for me,
when William Baxter and his wife were killed. At that point I was practically screaming "wh-what the heck was that? They were NICE to the Coralians!! T___T"
There were even more in the manga, which I was not particularly a fan of, but I won't go into that now. >__>

Let's see... anime moments that made me say "What the heck?"...

Dennou Coil
"The Bearded Ones" - After seeing this episode, I might've slipped a "what the heck" exclamatory a few times. That was the most original funny thing I had seen in a long time.

Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo
Seeing the Count and "Albert" come out to duel in their suits of armor. I did not expect them to be that freaking big. Or bleed that much.

I also didn't expect them to hurt Eugenie so bad, or have Valentine's nasty mother come out of nowhere to prevent the girl's rescue. I felt an urge to kill certain fictional characters on those days. I know that's nothing compared to other intense anime, but I still ended up saying "What the heck? HOW COULD THE WRITERS DO THAT?? I HATE THEM! Where's the next episode, I must watch it right now!!"

Death Note
Just about every one of L's genius moments. I just saw him slip that cell phone from the blonde to pester Light - hahahaha, brilliant my man!

Fruits Basket
By the end of Episode 3, I was laughing hysterically trying to figure out how the heck that happened-- why were people transforming every ten seconds?? Most unlucky day *ever*. I love this show.

animeantics (post: 1273753) wrote:Random Naruto Battles always make me go "WOW WHAT THE HECK?!"

 Agreed!

Latest example... when Hidan ran that spike through his heart, and then a mile away, Kakuzu keels over in pain... I must've "oh my gosh"d a dozen times. Shikamaru is a genius.

HAHAHA, yep. To see a bunch of ordinary men playing Naruto ninja on the moon is priceless.

And that death in FMA took me by surprise too. Think it was the first time I've ever been sad to see a cartoon character die.

Here are a couple more that I thought of:

Chobits: Two words. "Power Switch". Nuff said.

Eureka Seven: There was this scene when...
Eureka starts sprouting her cool green wings, and she feels really akward with them or something...so Renton desides to bash his own arm so it looks like hers...umm...WHA??? Later on in the episode, when Eureka sprouts her wings all the way, her and Renton are sitting on the beach, and he asks her "Can I feel them?" The first thought that rang through my head was "WHAT THE?! Is he gettting to 2nd with Eureka?!" His next statement "So warm..." doesn't help matters either...

Yep,
L's death
was a pretty "WTH" moment for me, but another one I had was when
Mello got killed by Takada. Although this doesn't seem like a WTH moment because Mello kidnapped him in the first place, it was a big one for me, cuz I then thought "OMG! Takada has a Death Note!" XD
There are a couple more that I need to bring up:

Death Note: There are 2 that come to mind immediately...the first is the epic potato chip scene. "Just watch me L...I'll solve equations with my right hand, and write names with my left! I'll take a potato chip...hehe...AND EAT!!!" Never has math or potato chip eating been so epic in anime.

The second scene comes in episode 25....
...right before L dies, he's sitting in the rain with Light on the roof, and for some reason, L is massaging his feet...that was a definite eyebrow up moment for me. And during that scene, I thought I picked up on a biblical undertone to the above scene.
Yes, I agree with you KBS,
there did seem to be a biblical undertone in that scene. It reminded me of when Jesus foot-washed people in the Bible. And also the scene where L says he hears the bells, which Light couldn't hear, ringing. Could there be any symbolism here? Im not sure, but I do have a feeling they were going for something there. Now Im trying to go deeper than just the thought "he heard them because they were heralding his near-to-happen demise," but I don't know what else there could have been.
And yeah the potato eating was pretty epic.

Okay, time for a Kuroshitsuji moment!
When it turns out Greil, the butler from previous episodes, was really Jack the Ripper. I was like "What?! No! Not Greil! ...He was so STUPID!" -and how Ceil's aunt was in on it as well. Ah, and the whole Shikigami thing. Yes, that was a surprise as well...

-and no, mine isn't nearly as epic as Light's infamous Potato chip scene. Still, I was shocked.

Don't know if this is specifically a 'What the heck?" moment. Anyhow there was no point to the mecha 'duels' because after they incapacitated their mecha...they got out and ran them through with their swords anyhow!

...so what was the point of using the mech again?

Haha, I know it wasn't *that* surprising compared to everything else mentioned in this thread (Death Note, or Hidan being tricked into piercing Kakuzu's heart), but for me it was very surprising and exciting.

This is a world where spaceships rule the skies, but Victorian era cars and fashion rule the ground-- I was expecting a duel with old-fashioned swords, and then these two giant autobots come out -- I just thought it was a great touch.

Wow, you sounds awfully disappointed. :P But you actually don't understand why the cold-blooded killer wanted to finish the last blow with his own hands? Well if you're a mech lover, I guess you'd do it all with the robot-- but Gankutsuou is a hating manipulative villain, of course he gets more satisfaction out of a "personal" touch. Final blows must be emotionally epic.
