Ubuntu killed my parents' computer

Postby Sakaki Onsei » Thu Nov 13, 2008 5:49 pm

So, was working on upgrading Ubuntu to the latest, thinking everything would be fine. The connection craps out on us, we try to reboot, and we can't access anything.

Anyone who is looking to try and upgrade Ubuntu to 8.10, be forewarned.

Also, if anyone has experience with Ubuntu related stuffs, please contact me over AIM. I definetely need the assistance.

AIM is "singaporeduck" (without the quotes).

I have to be honest here. I had no idea Ubuntu was a computer program.

I clicked on this thread fully expecting that a traditional African warrior had burst through your window, spear in hand, and expertly gored your family computer as a prize fitting for his village gods.

Now I just feel a bit silly.

.... *BURST OUT LAUGHING* XDDD

HAHAHAHAHA..HA, So funny XD

Have you tried the obvious uninstalling the program? Although, you did say you couldn't access ANYTHING, sooooooooo uninstallation would be a no no, huh o.o?

I had a simular problem when I installed Windows SP3. After I installed it, it asked for a restart. I did what it asked, buuuuuuuuuuut it pooped out after the screen went off o.o I waited for a couple of minutes in hopes it would kick back up, but no it did not u_u

Another effect of SP3 was that, upon start up.. it would stop at this screen asking me to go into settings to change something o.o

I truely thought my computer was dying on me ;___; Until, one faithful day/night/morning, I got one of those auto-updates. Whatever was in that update.. it really fixed things up for me ^__^

But, you said you can't access anything, so things may be a bit different on your end ^__^;

I's sorries :(

Sounds like you need to learn the true meaning of Ubuntu with help from Nelson Mandela!

Anyway, my first reaction would probably be to try and save the upgrade by getting into the system with the LiveCD.
