Man that stinks, he was one of my favorite authors. Jurrasic Park is one of my favorite books of all time and he wrote a few others that where really good, like Timeline. I hope he rests in peace.

Author Crighton dead at 66

Postby Esoteric » Thu Nov 06, 2008 6:41 am

I heard on the news yesterday that Michael Crighton died of cancer. His amazing mind for stores will be missed.

He wrote many books, so I'll just list the ones I know were made into movies.
Andromeda Strain
Jurrasic Park
Westworld
Timeline
Sphere
Rising Sun
The Great Train Robbery

There are probably more.

Threads merged, and moved to the Book Corner.

I heard about this yesterday, though--it's very sad!

I met Michael Crichton at a book signing for "Timeline" several years ago. In talking with him for all of ninety seconds, he recognized my (somewhat obscure) surname and commented on its history a bit. He seemed every bit of a genius in person as he did in his books. I'm sorry he went so suddenly, unexpectedly, and (in these days) so early.

Michael Crichton was one of the first authors I truly liked, one of the first to challenge me intellectually. Not a lot, though. I haven't read anything of his in more than a decade, but I shall always remember him fondly. :)

I haven't read any Crichton since The Lost World, but it was one of many of his books I really enjoyed when I was in middleschool. A number of them I read two or three times.
I wonder why he kept his cancer on the DL like that?

As I fan of his works, I will definitely miss him. RIP, Crichton.

Eaters of the Dead was adapted into a movie called The Thirteenth Warrior.
