Movies you didn't think you'd like but actually do?

I'm sure we all have them! So here's the place to FESS UP! Tell us what movies that you really thought looked stupid until someone forced you to watch it, or you just watched it to make fun of it?

This has happened to me recently!

I've been seeing things on the net about a Third Little Mermaid movie and I was like, "Whaaat?" I read the synoposis and it looked STUPID...

But one day I passed by it in a store and I was like "What the heck? Maybe my little sister will watch it..."

So I got it and you know what? I actually LIKED it. Sure it's not the original and some ofthe things are really different...but it's actually a pretty cute movie XD...

annd it happened to me today I watched that new Tinker Bell movie...and I really expected it to be stupid..

I watched and I know what it's targeted age was...(little girls) But you know What? I found myself going "AWW THATS SO CUTE!!" And my poor friend was with me while I was watching it and he couldn't help but roll his eyes. XD

The music to this movie was REALLY pretty too! Lots of Celtic stuff...
It's kinda funny I think... ._.;

Where these movies an absolute Cheese fest? Yes. Yes they were XD but I went into them KNOWing that...

Maybe I just have a weird mind?

Seeing as this was from the same company that gave us Quest for Camelot, I was expecting new dimensions of pain. But I thought it was pretty cute...and come on, you've got to love that villain.

Funny, I loved Quest for Camelot until I saw it a few months ago, and I was like "Woah, this movie is kinda jumpy!"

Maybe I just really liked the blind guy?

Although when he suddenly spat out "I must tell you, I knew your father." I was like "WOAH THAT WAS OUT OF THE BLUE!" and she was like "You did?" LAWL! XDDDD

It's a movie that I like to make fun of now...X3

When I saw a trailer for Fight Club years ago, I thought it looked like a typical, boring "One dude fights a bunch of dudes in a tournament" thing. I ended up being taken to it by a bunch of my friends, and I figured, sure, why not, I could use a nap.

I was then blown away by how amazing the movie was.

I've seen lots of movies I thought I wouldn't like, mostly because my mom is a magnet for chick flicks. Among the movies I wound up liking were:

The Ultimate Gift
The Spitfire Grill

Well, most recently it was The Happening. After hearing so many people griping about it, I was sure it would be pretty lame. But it was actually really good! Now I can't understand what everyone was talking about, it being "just a bunch of violence with no purpose" and everything.

The same thing happened with the third Pirates of the Caribbean movie and Spider-Man 3. Having hated the second installments of both those series, I was sure the third ones would be horrible too. But - and this is probably because I wasn't expecting hardly anything - I actually ended up liking them quite a bit more than I'd expected.

Citizen Kane is a unique experience. When I heard my dad say it was a movie about a politician, I was like, "Nuuu! I've already seen enough of that from the presidential candidates' speeches in real life!" And it was pretty boring and stuffy for most of the movie, but then the ending was just...wow. Some of the best irony I've ever seen!

I'm sure there've been other movies like that, but this is all I can think of at the moment. I think the key is that, if you're expecting something amazing from a movie, there's a high chance that you'll be disappointed (unless it's something like LotR or the Bourne movies and it's incredibly amazing). But if you go into the movie expecting it to be horrible, chances are you'll find some gems hidden in there that make you like the movie.

The Lake House and 27 dresses.

I'm really not a fan of the romantic genre but I really enjoyed these two. I was especially surprised about The Lake House. When I saw the trailer I thought it looked absolutly rubbish and that it couldn't possibly work, but then my mum rented the DVD so I watched it and I actually really enjoyed it.

Just shows you can't always judge a movie by it's trailer

Are you ready to fall over in shock? Here's my movie that I knew nothing of and simply went to go watch because my husband, brother and sister-in-law were gushing so much about it. When it was released in theaters, my husband went and got tickets for opening weekend and made sure that I sure that I wanted to suffer through the movie with him, since (I repeat) I knew nothing of the series at all. And then I watched and was taken in and now it is one of the main inspirations for my art and writing:

Baby Mama. Mom got it from Netflix and begged me to watch it with her. I thought it was some "all girls should aspire to be mothers" bullcrap, but its actually a pretty hilarious comedy. Not exactly for the young, but very funny.

Also.

Godzilla movies. Everyone says they're crappy but I picked up Godzilla 2000 on a whim after playing the Wii game and was liek, "HOLY CRAP, THIS IS THE BEST AND MOST HILARIOUS MONSTER MOVIE I'VE EVER SEEN." So yeah, I now have the entire Heisei and Shinsei series and some of the Showa Godzilla movies. I love them to death.

One example that immediately pops into mind is the recent Speed Racer movie. Watching the commercials I thought the excessive CGI was horrendous.

Then I watched the movie and shut up. (Well, I shut up in between bouts of laughter and cheering).

I find it amazing that a movie with EVEN FAKER CGI than the Star Wars prequel trilogy could be so enjoyable. *makes a note to travel back in time and tell George Lucas to get a clue*
