Ack, brain fart! I think that I was reading something else and thought it was FMA manga, but yeah, its still going on. I just haven't got that far as chapters and only read up to 70.

Roy Mustang>> ah, i see. so that's how it is, well i'm glad you told me cuz i was really confused. (still haven't finished reading the manga yet)

uc pseudonym>> you're absolutely right, no one said that they couldn't watch the show. i'm just saying, they should've known what to expect from an anime that's based off of a manga. if you look the show up on the Anime News Network it comes up: Adaption. and you're right, telling people: "If you don't like then don't watch" isn't the most effective way either. but it still hurts when they rip and tear at the show so you can't help but say stuff like that, especially when you wanted to watch the show before reading the manga.

Well I think the issue that many take is that they watched it as it was released either in english or japanese (and not all of us check ANN for information on everything we watch, I rarely look at the site at all), and saw the show go from a nearly 1:1 adaptation of the overarching story to spinning out of control partway through into something that didn't seem quite right.

I actually came to this conclusion before I read the manga, and I rather disliked the later parts of the anime as general writing and plotting, especially the setup for the Shamballa movie and the movie itself. I just liked what they did even less so after seeing what the manga author did with the same opening and setup. I actually stopped regularly watching the FMA anime later into it and had to be persuaded to read the manga because it (in my mind) fell apart so much.

Personally, I'd rather it'd be a redo and follow the manga. I actually haven't even read much of the manga either, I just don't see all that much material if they move on from Shamballa. Of course, I like the idea of them covering the 3 years right after Ed joined the military in the anime. That would be an ...interesting way to go. :)
But, overall, I've come to the conclusion: Come what may. I think any direction they take will be amusing one way or another ;)

I still need to see Shamballa but I don't like the sound of the ending, from what I here XD

Still, FMA is one of my favorite series ever, so... I'm in favor of more of it. >.> It'd be great to see a series retool, and it'd be just as great to see a "spin-off"/continuation of the movie timeline. So. If it sucks, I just won't watch it xDD

for those people who don't look up things on the ANN, i guess i can understand how they feel. but it's always good to dig up information beforehand so that's why i recommend the ANN for EVERYTHING anime. but on a happier note, how'd u come to that conclusion before you read the manga?

Because not everyone likes the Anime.

I don't dislike the Anime for doing things differently, I dislike them for doing things badly. Scenes that should have been longer, episodes cut or stretched, underused characters, et cetera. They had some good material, such as the homunculi's creation and weakness, rewritten plot points, and a couple confrontations that would be spoilers in this thread. But they still watered it down, and ultimately executed a lot of it poorly.

This has nothing to do with the Manga.

i see. well hopefully all of those FMA fans who were disappointed aren't disappointed when FMA2 comes out. BTW, i've read a lot farther into the manga and i still think the anime and manga are equal, but i'm expecting alot out of the manga.

Correction. I was reading/watching them almost parallel for a short while, then I took a break from the manga because the anime seemed to be carrying the story at the same clip. The story eventually took turns I didn't like, dropped characters I did like and seemed to start going in circles story wise and, eventually, I dropped the anime from my regular watching list (though I saw it off and on on cartoon network), and had to be persuaded back into reading the manga because I'd figured the plot lines had stayed the same.

I don't use ANN because I prefer to form opinions for myself, and things can be written to sound great on paper and turn out being not as good as advertised. I'd rather watch and decide than letting a reviewer on ANN shape the show for me, especially since things that determine whether I like the show (handling of plot, art, quality of animation, design use in show) usually aren't covered in reviews like that.

Just a bit of info for anyone not familiar with Anime News Network: Although this site does contain reviews (aka opinion articles), the really useful place on ANN (at least for me) is the anime encyclopedia. This section simply gives an extremely basic story description, rating (PG, PG13, ect.), and company/vocal information. It's good for anime fans who hear about a new title and are simply curious as to the basic story and if it's out in America. I agree with mechana about most anime reviews. I actually only use the encyclopedia on ANN.
....Anywho, information on FMA2 is really hard to find. Looks like the companies aren't taking chances. Does anyone happen know when any official information is going to be released to the public?

As long as Romi Park is still on it, I'm totally up for it. Even if Hagaren 1 was crap (I haven't finished it, so I don't know), delicious sexily-voice-acted crap is delicious.

But I suppose a reboot would be nice. If so, I think it'd be cool if they upgraded the art style-- it's not bad and it's not that dissimilar to the manga, but little adjustments would be cute.

Thinking about awesome new BONES animation, like what we've seen in Soul Eater and Xam'd, just sold me on the idea of FMA2.

I had no idea ANN had opinion articles. I usually just go there for the news and the encyclopedia. I usually head to forums and blogs that I read for opinions.

Correction, I don't use ANN to read reviews about a show. I use the ANN to find a summary about the show, to find the rating, (i.e. Mature, Teenagers, etc.) to see who's in it and to find out how old it is. Just like you, I hate reading or listening to others' opinion when I don't even know my own yet.

P.S. what do you mean by "persuaded"?

persuaded - v (transient) (past tense)
to cause someone to do something through reason or argument

I had to be told several times in extended conversation by several people that I trust regarding taste in anime and manga that, yes indeed it was different, better paced and more readable, and was headed towards a better conclusion than the anime seemed to be aiming at, which was a point I was somewhat dubious about since the beginnings of each followed fairly closely.

oh, i see what you mean now. you had given up on FMA but some of your 'senpais' in the world of anime fandom convinced you otherwise. that's kool, thanks, but i didn't need the actual definition of the word persuaded. (i am in 11th Gr. after all, and i don't think i got there by luck, LOL)
