Tonight is the last toonami. RIP Toonami 1997-2008 http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2008-09-20/cartoon-network-to-reportedly-end-toonami-tonight

What are your thoughts on the end of Toonami.

O/T: This would probably be better suited for General Entertainment or maybe Anime. Considering Toonami hasn't always shown pure anime, Gen. Ent. might be your best bet.

To be blunt, it doesn't affect me much, since I've never been much of a TV watcher, and I almost never watched Toonami. But I can understand why people would miss it.

Me, I wish I had been old/savvy enough to appreciate old-school Toonami, when they showed stuff like Robotech/Macross.

I don't watch CN much anyways... I honestly wonder how much longer this channel will last...

Toonami went downhill for me when it took off Sailor Moon.

CK, I think CN will still be alive because there will always be kids who are attracted to the cartoons they make.

Ahhhh, that's sad....but I thought it was already gone..hahaha. I stoped watching aroun the first airing of The Cell Saga of Dragon Ball Z, when something was attacking the ship and Tom transformed....kinda weird....but whatever. It was fun when I was younger, haha.

Really? This is too bad. I mean Toonami hasn't been the best it's been, in well 3-5 years, but still it brings sadness to me. And what's really sad is that it did not go out with a bang, just filler and re-runs of previously viewed stuff. So Im sorta not surprised, but I would have thought it would have gotten great ratings because of the younger kids, especially 10 year old boys.

Well yep, it was officially announced at the end of Toonami that it's done.

But one thing that stood out to me was when Tom jumped out of the ship and off into the distance he said "Bang". Not sure if it's somehow related to Cowboy Bebop in any way at all(Spike in the show would put up his hands in a gun shape and point and say Bang.), I mean it wasn't them that showed Bebop(AS did.). But it did stand out to me and sounded almost like the voice of Spike that said it.

Um...Steve Blum WAS Spike. ^^; There's a reason he said "bang", he knows what crowed of people grew up with Toonami. We're the only ones who would catch the Bebop reference and so he threw it in.

Which personally I think was pretty epic. Just too bad no flashbacks of early Toonami.

Wow! This really is the end of an epoch. I guess this means anime will become more and more of cult genre as entry level anime starts leaving the airwaves.

XD when Tom said Bang I looked at my friend and I was like "OMGOSH! I'm going to cry!" Toonami may have gone down hill over the past year... but wow...that was a really awesome way to end it.

Well, darn. This is a sad day indeed-- Toonami was my "gateway drug", lol. Lots of fond memories of it. Though honestly, it's been dead to me since they moved it from weekday afternoons (dumbest idea EVAR). Still, I'm sad to see it go rather than being revamped, you know?

It's still scheduled.

I'm glad Naruto is still running (even though I've seen all of them in japanese with english subtitles online and I'm currently watching the third season of Naruto Shippuden. it's also sad they're getting rid of Toonami (even though they gotten rid of Sailor Moon, DBZ and other good shows.) so far, I've seen 75 episodes of Shippuden online which is currently airing in Japan and I'm waiting for the special next week which is episodes 76-77.

I was at the AWA cartoon network pannel. They said that the major reason for them taken Toonami off is because of low ratings and they want to replace it with general action block. This is why Batman: Gotham Knight OVA will air.

This was not said at the pannel, but word around the street is that they are not canceling Naruto, but as of right now, they are in a noncommittal on acquiring any more eps of Naruto. I believe they have about 15 new eps left and after that, its up in the air.

As for Toonami going off the air, I really don't care. The last time that I watch Toonami was for JL and JLU and after those series ended, I stop watching it.

yah... so it's kinda going to be like that one thing they had back in 2004? with the crappy NES Video game graphics?

Something kinda like that?

Ah okay well that doesn't sound so bad maybe we'll get some BETTER stuff than what they had anyways.

Considering the quality of most of CN's other programming, I kinda doubt it.

But I mean now that they are getting rid of Toonami, they really don't have much reason to even air any anime. Well I mean if they wanted to, they could. Because Toonami was the CN anime block. When it went off air it wasn't all anime, but there were times when everything that came on Toonami at one point or another was anime(Now Im just saying like at one point they had an all anime lineup. Not saying that they did have only anime, because there was Thunder Cats, Tranformers, He-Man, and some other stuff.) So I have doubts that CN will do much else in even trying to acquire anime. Im not talking about AS, they are doing they're own thing, although at this point I won't be surprised if they decide that anime is costing them ratings and get rid of Bleach and friends as a result.

Right now Im just greatful that we are even getting anything from AS.

Did you ever have a dog as a kid? Barked when you came home, scratched him behind the ear, always put you in a good mood. Then one day he ran out into the street and BAM got hit by a convenient cement truck OH GOD CHARLES NO but he's okay, he'll just limp for the rest of his life on three legs. And he's not as energetic as he used to be, mostly shuffles around with a hollow stare for the next three years until your parents break it to you that it's too expensive to keep him and not a lot of families will take in a dog at his age and they'll have to put him down. Then the vet turns on the gas and the dog looks balefully at you before those chestnut brown eyes close for the last time.

That's basically Toonami.

You know, I finally saw Tom's final monologue on YouTube, and I must say, a small part of me that I thought I long forgot about actually felt sad. I mean, Tom was the coolest thing since buttered toast back in the day, and true, while the modern Tom was a shadow of his earlier self, Toonami's "Soul" still was there. To me, Toonami was the one time block (Save for the old school "Made in Japan" time block on the old ABC Family channel) that embraced anime for what it was--Japanese animation. It didn't try to hide, suppress or ignore it like "Kids WB" or "Fox Kids/4Kids" did.

And God bless Steven Blum for his shout-out at the very end. You have to wonder how he must feel to let go of this character after playing him for this long.
