Suggestions for my Japan Trip

Postby Hitokiri » Tue Jul 29, 2008 2:21 pm

Kind of short notice but I am leaving to go to Japan tomorrow with several other students from my university. While this technically is, "Hey I am leaving", I am not on here a lot anymore.

We will be staying in Hiroshima for close to two weeks and I will be staying with my host family, the Kunimuras.

I am bringing close to a thousand dollars with me (part of it is for train fare, shinkansen fare, and one stay in a hotel.

I do have an idea what I want to buy but like I ran out of ideas. Does anyone have any ideas or experiences? Also what makes good presents for friends and family back home.

I know I am obviously gonna buy manga I can't get here, music I can't get here, etc.

I've been told it is a good idea to carry your own toilet paper as the public restrooms there do not have any.

This isn't very healthy, but take advantage of their eclectic varieties of snacks. D8 I daresay it will be cheaper there than here.

for a gift idea you could try video games. A good place to buy them from what i've read is at a place called Super Potateo which is in Tokyo, in the Akihabara district. try to go online and find directions on how to get there.
Hope your trip turns out allright.
God bless;)

There's a Studio Ghibli museum. I've never been to it, but I've seen photos. If you're a Ghibli fan, it's a must-see. Oh, and post some pics from the trip.

The Studio Ghibli Museum is a must-see attraction.
Procure their varieties of rice snacks (they have almost everything you can think of).
Live in your wardrobe for an extended time to get used to the cramped conditions of Japan living - I'm from Australia and I found it very claustrophobic at times.
