Batman villain in the next movie?

Postby rocklobster » Tue Jul 22, 2008 6:48 pm

What Batman villain do you want to see in the next movie if there is one?
I'd like to see either Two-Face (since Harvey Dent is in The Dark Knight) or Deadshot.
Two-Face is dead.
I think Black Mask or Deadshot would suit the Chris Nolan universe, yes.

EDIT: W4J, that first part is a major spoiler. ~Ash

This should be moved to General Entertainment.
I think Two-Face is still alive.
Of course the Joker is, but I have a feeling that he won't be in the next film unless they get a really good actor.

I have this thing in my head of having Black Mask and the Mad Hatter in the next film. It makes sense in my head.

EDIT: Also spoiler. ~Ash

I don't remember Mad Hatter. Who was he?
And would he fit the Chris Nolan Batman universe?
Two-Face is still alive? Really? I know Joker is but I'd prefer he doesn't come back.
The Mad Hatter is a villain who typically uses technology to take over people's minds and has a Lewis Carroll fetish. For mine (and perhaps Nolan's) purposes, I'd drop the fetish but have him show up in a Victorian suit and top hat at least once. I think he'd make a good fit into Nolan's universe because he's a human character (moreso in the animated version) and doesn't have any crazy powers. In the cartoon, he previously worked for Wayne Corp before turning bad.
As for Two-Face, I don't know if he's alive, but I believe he is for the following reasons:

-Batman survived the same fall, and he was shot beforehand.
-The fall was no higher than the one where he dropped that mob guy, who didn't die.
A friend and I recently talked about this. Our final consensus was that Nolan has proven himself to be able to choose villains competently, and portray them exceptionally well, so not matter who he chooses, it is going to be done well.

With that in mind, Here are my thoughts on the remaining well known Batman villains:

Bane: I think that overall, Bane could work out as quite an awesome villain for Nolan. Bane is intelligent, strong, and a well trained fighter. It would be cool to see Batman outsmart the villain, rather than directly beating him into submission as has been the case in Nolanverse thus far. Besides, if anyone needs to have their movie image redeemed, it's Bane.

Also, there is no telling what lengths some of Gotham's leaders may go to trying to catch Batman. Bane would work well as a hired mercenary.

Mad Hatter: As much has I love him. I don't think the Mad Hatter would quite fit the Nolan universe. His Alice in Wonderland motif is a little bit too based in fantasy for what Nolan has established, I think. Also, mind control technology is a little far fetched. He would need a significant rewrite. Not that I wouldn't love to see him try.

Riddler: It could be difficult to use him as he may end up feeling a little too similar to what Nolan did with Joker. I could se him being a Zodiac killer type, though.

Catwoman: I think that the door has been opened for Selena Kyle to enter Bruce Wayne's life, but I think there might be some confilcting problems with the recent "Catwoman" film. Ugh.

Talia al Ghul: With the door opened in Bruce's life, Talia could be an excellent choice for the third film, especially given Batman's current on the run status.

Clayface: Can't be used for obvious Nolan universe realism rules.

Deadshot: Would be cool, but has already been introduced in the animation. This may make it difficult to introduce him in a full film.

Mr Freeze: See Clayface. :(

Poison Ivy: See Clayface.

Hush: May work out, but I think that The Dark Knight covered the mobster angle well enough that I wouldn't be surprised if they skipped over him for being "too similar" to the previous film.

I would absolutely love to see any of them, though. Particularly Mad Hatter, Bane, Mr Freeze, or Talia.

If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things."

Anyone here know about spoiler tags? They look like this:
Anyway, there's no way Dent gets killed. I haven't seen it yet, but it doesn't makes sense for him to have died. What they may do is use the event as part of Two Face's creation myth.
If anyone is thinking about the third movie, think of the Tenth Doctor in Doctor Who playing The Riddler.

Also, Catwoman. As long as they pretend Halle Berry never touched the character everything should be just fine. XD I'd love to see Nolan do the Riddler, too.

since Ledger is, unfortunately, out of the picture now, it wouldn't be very wise to put Joker in the third, though i think that that might've been the case, had Ledger still been alive...i would vouch for either the Riddler or, perhaps, Mr. Freeze.

Well I'm almost positive Nolan won't do a third movie, because Batman movies typically come in pairs. That said, here's my list of villains, in order I would like to see them.

Clayface - I don't want Nolan to touch this villain because he would ruin him. A world where Superman, Green Lantern, and Wonder Woman exist and Nolan wants "realism." Whatever...but anyway, Clayface is definitely the villain I want to see most.

Penguin - Sorry, but I really, really hate Tim Burton's interpretation of the Penguin. I want to see him done RIGHT, as a wealthy high society man rather than a mutant freak.

Ventriloquist and Scarface - I would like to see Nolan's take on these two, actually. I think they'd be fantastic, but I think that people would say it's too bizarre to work.

Mirror Master - Yeah, I know, he's more of a Flash villain, but he appeared in the Batman animated series, so I think he qualifies.

Mad Hatter - I don't know much about him but he seems cool, so I'll put him here.

Killer Croc - Eh, not my favorite Batman villain, but he'd be okay I guess.

For the most part (aside from Penguin who I was sorely disappointed with) I left out villains that have already been done in the movies.

After the events of the film, I think Catwoman would be just what the doctor ordered and I think with some tweaking the Riddler would fit well in to the Christonolan Batverse.

He's just more interesting that way, a man of sophistication with a machine gun in his umbrella stand.

Since Nolan's gotten the psychological elements of Batman down, I'd say it's a possibility. V&S aren't my favorite characters, but darned if they don't bring about some good writing.

Poison Ivy would be a good character if done by someone not Nolan.

Actually, from what I've heard, he doesn't want to make a third movie. And Christian Bale has said that if Nolan's not on board, neither is he. Honestly, I'm not disappointed by that--not only are Nolan's Batman films good enough to stand on their own, I'm also really interested in seeing what other kinds of movies Nolan will put out (a la The Prestige).

That's not to say I won't be stoked if he does choose to make another installment, but I'm content with what he's done so far. XD

here's an old blog on the subject of future villains AND Nolan's willingness to film more Batmans. Granted, it is old but it hinted at the time at Catwoman and the Joker. Obviously I think the latter it out of the picture out of respect for Mr. Ledger, but yeah.

I haven't seen TDK yet but everyone I talk to seem to think its gonna be Catwoman seeing how it is nicely set up for her to come in and she is one of the most recognizable character after Batman and the Joker. I was actually hoping Harley Quinn would be in the next movie but... no Joker, no Harley :(

About Catwoman, she is my favorite villain (of sorts) but I can't possibly see anyone doing a better job than Michelle Pfeiffer. She was absolutely puuurfect. On the other hand, I wouldn't mind seeing how Nolan takes on the character and I really would like to see her show up.

However, if Nolan isn't making the next one, then I hope she stays out of the story.

And as for the Penguin, I hope he never shows up. Tim Burtons re-imagining of him was the most interesting thing to happen to that character. Of all the Batman villains, he is one of the worse IMO.

The Ten-eyed Man.

Seriously, I would like to see something involving either Talia and Nyssa, Lady Shiva, or because I'm weird and because I think it could be thought provoking if handle correctly- but the chances of that are effectively none- The Mortician.

Hmm. If Nolan decides to make a third movie (which should be the last IMO, and I'd be thrilled if they quit with The Dark Knight, because it was amazing), I think it'd be interesting to see Ra's al Ghul return (entirely possible) with a second villain. Bane would be fine with me. In fact, they'd probably make a formidable pair against Batman, considering both are intelligent, powerful foes.

Doesn't mean a thing. Billy Dee Williams was under contract to play Harvey Dent in any future installments of the Batman movies after the first one. When Joel Schumacher took over, he bought out Williams' contract and got Tommy Lee Jones for Two-Face.

If Christian Bale says he won't do a third film if Nolan isn't on board, he'd likely buy himself out of the contract if he's under one.
Plus, do you REALLY think they're not going to make another movie after that ending?

There have been lots of movies that set up for sequels that never get made. :p

But honestly I dunno. Guess we'll just have to wait and see. Though again, I'd really rather Nolan NOT do another Batman movie so that we can see someone cool like Clayface or Hugo Strange (forgot about him).

A third Batman film would probably have Catwoman. Though she tends to be the rival/love interest rather than generally villainous, so let's keep the 2+ bad guy formula.

Reserving my thoughts on the Joker and Two Face for the Dark Knight thread.

I like the Penguin, provided he cuts the bird motif. I know that in the comics the Penguin briefly quit his life of crime and retired to run a sports bar cashing in on his public infamy (it was popular), so Batman hits a downtown dive for information on the criminal underworld, perhaps Nolan could have a shout out? At the very least.

The Ventriloquist and Scarface are awesome, but would better serve as a bit part than the leading villain. And I like Clayface and the Mad Hatter, but since Nolan is focusing on that entire psychological crime drama deal, they'll draw the short straw. And Mr. Freeze, what a sad man.

I hate Poison Ivy. Don't bring her into this.

I'd like to see Catwoman and perhaps the Riddler - anything to make the movie a touch lighter. Penguin could work here, too, but not like Burton's interpretation. It would be nice if we could do a little more light hearted affair.

I would also like to see some of the other Gotham crime fighters make an appearance such as the Huntress or Black Canary.

Everyone’s replaceable in the movies. Even Ledger and Bale. Since Ledger’s death is probably feeding ticket sales, I don’t know that it would be a great idea to have the Joker appear in the next one, but if they do a good casting job, it could work. The Joker doesn’t really have to make another appearance, though. There’s plenty of material to use and they could perhaps even do something <gasp> new.
I've seen the movie now and I understand the circumstances better around the Dent comments. I like what they did, by the way. Anyways, there's plenty of room for Dent to be alive, if they chose to use him again in a future movie.
