Forgotten Memories

Prologue…

Once, long ago, in the time of warriors and swordsmen, before guns and modern weapons had been invented, there existed a hitokiri, an assassin so powerful, that his name brought fear to those who heard it. They had nightmares for days upon days afterwards, and some were driven mad. This assassin’s name was Gin Akusan. He left entire villages in flames; he destroyed people’s lives, and killed countless numbers of people. One young child named Hiro witnessed his family being slaughtered from his hiding place. His family had put him there to keep him safe, but after witnessing what he did, Hiro gave up on life. He didn’t have any desire to live any longer. But he was going to find out, one day, that there was another like him…this is his story.

Chapter One: The Fateful Encounter

Chapter Two: The Beginning of Their Story

Hiro and Rui spent the night there, and in the morning, Hiro was awakened by smoke before the sun had completely risen over the horizon. When he saw it, his hand immediately went to his sword handle.
“Rui, wake up…something’s wrong. Something’s on fire…and it’s coming from the direction of the village. C’mon, we have to see if we can stop it!
“Huh?â€

Chapter Three: His Identity Revealed
Later that day, as Hiro and Rui did their best to put out the fire, they were thanked by the surviving townsfolk, and told to be extremely careful if they were ever to encounter Gin again. They were also given a package, and were told not to open it until later in their journey, when they needed it the most. “What do you mean?â€

Rui was crying. Not crying like a child, but the tears were flowing, hard and fast. Hiro was immediately snapped out of his mindless state when they hit his hand. He looked up at her, sadly, and then he pulled her up to him, and held her tightly. She buried her face under his chin, and stopped crying, and just sat there with him, enjoying his presence.

Hiro sat there thinking about the note, what it meant, and what the future might hold for them. After a few minutes, he looked down, and Rui had fallen asleep up against him. He lifted her up in his arms gently, walked over to a tree, and leaned back against it. Hiro laid Rui down gently beside him, and let her rest her head on his shoulder. He didn’t think much of it, because she needed companionship. No, more than that…she needed to be loved. There was no one else in the world for her. After that thought, he fell asleep.

Hiro was awakened later in the night by something. He looked around, and felt Rui jerking in his arms. “Rui…she must’ve been having a nightmare,â€
