Annoying FF to IE problem

Look at this page w/ Firefox, then with IE. See that annoying 2-4px gap near the category titles? I can't figure out what's causing it in IE.

You'll have to change the theme to see it (bottom left of page, this problem's in FF or IE css)

Just the number of FF to IE differences in this forum annoy me. Makes it a pain to try and convert this skin over to ZetaBoards compatability.

I've had similar trouble with FF and IE. For me, it tends to be trouble with IE and practically everything else. I really dislike that MSIE seemingly arbitrarily decides to interpret code *slightly* differently than other browsers.

Unfortunately, I do not have a copy of IE here, so I can't see what you're saying. In the past, though, I've found a couple of things that I look for:

* 9 out of 10 "gap" errors (for me) are related to how IE/FF display padding. Check your cell padding and other spacing options (tables with no spacing: 0px are notorious for this).
* Some CSS options are ignored by FF, but shown by IE.
* Likewise, vice versa.
* Look for misspellings of words like "verticle-align."
* Be sure to close off all tags (<tr><td>something</td><td>something else</td></tr>) - sometimes browsers get confused.
* This is like the above tag - if you have Javascript, be sure you have closed off your JS tags: <script language="Javascript" src="somefile.js"></script>. FF3 (for example) will give you very different results if you don't use that close tag.

You might want to look for those items, and see if the trouble makes itself known.

I'm looking at it with IE7, FF3, and Opera 9.5. I'm struggling to see much of a difference between them. (Except that the dividing line after Announcements and General Discussion looks a couple of pixels thinner in IE.)

Also, apparently IE is getter better with its standards-adherence with every version. IE8 should be quite good in terms of standards-adherence from what I've heard.

Well,
You'll have to change the theme to see it (bottom left of page, this problem's in FF or IE css)

You didn't do that, lol. I keep forgetting to switch the default over, cause it doesn't affect me anymore.

Oh. XD I missed that bit.. or didn't get what you were saying..

On either theme:
1. In IE the column for that says the most recently posted thread is much narrower than in Opera or FF.
2. In IE, there is no black single-pixel border around News & Discussion, Board Statistics or 'Choose a theme', but there is in Opera and FF.

In Opera:
- The IE and FF tests look identical.

In FF:
- The IE test has more of a gap than FF test around News & Discussion, Board Statistics, and 'Choose a theme'.

In IE:
- The FF test looks the same as the FF test in FF, but the IE test looks even a bit more spaced out than the IE test in FF.

They're the only differences I could see.
