It's getting closer and I'm getting more geeked-up for it every day. I love this time of year, all the otaku around here start coming out of hiding. So speak up, people, who's going?

Otakon is the second largest anime convention in the U.S. It is held annually in Baltimore, MD, over three days in August. A couple years ago, attendance had to be capped at 25,000; recently, the numbers have come down a little bit, but around 20,000 attendees would not be unusual. As with many conventions, expect plenty of costumes, Cosplay, seminars, dealers' room, movies, announcements from industry, and general craziness.

I wonder if the reduction is due to the rise in gasoline prices and other things.
I know I will be attending again and later I will be attending Neko Con. Thou the price of gasoline might be higher than now when I head down in Nov to Hampton Roads.

She'll be going with myself and IchiTone. We'll also have a 4th guy, but he's not a CAA member.

Oh, and if we wanna make another attempt at a CAA Dinner, I should say that I'm already planning a cosplay group dinner/photo session (Silent Hill) Saturday evening so if the CAA dinner is then, I'll have to opt out.

Yeppers! I'm a Tampa girl, so I'm only about an hour away from Lakeland... booyah. But it's kinda hot down here, right? That's what everyone says, at least...

I think a CAA dinner/get together sounds sooo cool!! ^_^ I really look forward to putting faces to names!! Yeah!

***BTW, Smartypants, you and the P-nut gonna make it to Metrocon? It's nothing like Otakon, but it's a LOT of fun!!! ^_^***

I know we have a Conventions 2008 thread but I wanted to make this separate from that particular one so those that are going can discuss meet ups, cosplays, what panels they'll be attending (once the schedule is posted), who will be in the artist alley, anyone in a Masq Skit?, and all that great stuff! It's getting pretty close guys and gals! I am already super excited!! ^__~

I will be going all 3 days and will most likely be in the Dealers Room, at any Lolita/Music/Industry panel (well if I have time XD ), attending concerts (MARBELL!!!! THE UNDERNEATH!!...Jam Project..can't get into them but will attend the concert XD ) and will most definitely be in the Kappei Yamaguchi line.

I'll definitely be attending any toku panels (there'd better be at least one D: ) and any other panels that relate to my niche interests. Last year there was a Lunar panel! That was pretty rad.

I've attended Otakon since good ol' 99...and haven't stopped going since! I look forward to it as the grandest event of my entire year. Last year the "fearsome foursome" consisted of me, Neko-chan, Spoony Bard, and our 4th member Ken (who isn't a member of CAA due to no internet access, and unfortunately wouldn't become a member even if he DID). I'm glad to see we'll be able to expand our circle this year by quite a bit! It's always a challenge making new friends with other otaku what with the typical hygiene problem. And extreme fanboy/girlishness. And cross-play. And unwanted glomping. Did I mention the hygiene problem? :sweat:

If we can get together in any capacity, count me in. I look forward to meeting you guys and matching faces to names...
