Facebook Commandments

Found this article and thought it was pretty interesting/entertaining:

Facebook Commandments

And here's a transcript of a chat the author had about his article.

Transcript

What do you guys think about all this?
"Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

"Since the creation of the Internet, the Earth's rotation has been fueled, primarily, by the collective spinning of English teachers in their graves."

He makes friending and de-friending sound like such a huge deal. XD I generally click "ignore" and don't bat an eyelash if I don't know the person or don't like them. XD There should be some level of etiquette on the internet, but freaking out over what someone on Facebook thinks is a little silly. XD

I read the facebook commandments and transcript and thought there were some interesting thoughts in there. Still... I didn't like his suggestion to lie about technical difficulties if an ex-facebook friend discovers you de-friended them. :/

I already have enough trouble with this kind of thing on myspace.
Facebook sounds like just another myspace to me.
I haven't tried facebook so if that last comment sounded blasphemous or something, it's 'cause I'm purpousfully ignorant of any differences.

Pssh, I'll tell them straight up u_u/ I mean, if they're bugging me and they know it themselves.. You can bet Imma defriend them o.O

I love all my Face Book friends, so I haven't had to ignore or defriend any of them ♥

Well, there has been two others who have friended me of FB, but I'm not entirely sure who they are o.o; I'm pretty sure they're from here, but.. not entirely sure which one ^^; I feel terrible xDD;

EDIT:
Facebook sounds like just another myspace to me.

Face Book is actually safer and more secured then Myspace ^^ Well, at least that's what I've heard anyway ^^

Personally I thought this article quite interesting. It's not that big of a deal for me, but I figure that it might be for some people.

I've never defriended a person, but them again I've never added someone I would want to in the first place.

Incidentally I have two requests from people I don't know that I haven't done anything about yet. The one girl I might know, so I'm just dropping her a message to clear it up before I friend or ignore her.

All the requests for random applications is what gets to me occasionally.

Not anymore.

Nowadays, they're more or less clones of each other and Facebook is also a browser crasher.

I never thought I'd say this ever, but after Facebook's change,

SERIOUSLY. The only worthwhile applications on Facebook are notes, bumper stickers, and video. I don't care what my name means or what country I am or what kind of sock represents my personality, XDDD.

I agree with you. I would like to add to your list, however. I really enjoy the Puzzlebee jigsaw puzzles (puzzles are another hobby of mine), the Visual Bookshelf, and the Pokey virtual puppy application is actually very well done.
And the Honesty Box is actually helpful --of course, you take comments with a grain of salt --but it can offer insights into how you come across to other people.

Even though I have accounts on both sites, I hate Facebook and Myspace and find the idea of "social networking" utterly ridiculous, so maybe I shouldn't be talking about this. XD

If somebody I don't even know sends me a friend request...I just ignore it. If someone were to **** me off, I would de-friend them and if they asked about it, I would tell them why. Because it's the internet. If a person gets all bent out of shape because you de-friended them on Facebook, well...then you had a good reason for de-friending them. >_>

I really don't know why I made a Facebook and Myspace to begin with. @_@

"Keep in mind that any boss clueless enough to friend you will be clueless enough not to understand that you've applied these restrictions."

Hmm..... Not so sure about that...

"If she confronts you about it, the best strategy is to plead ignorance: Perhaps the site's massive growth has led to some unexpected technical difficulties? Re-friend, then wait at least six months before trying another de-friending."

Umm.... That sounds somewhat dishonest.

Meh. I don't feel like reading the rest of this. I might later.

It just seems like anything one would hear anywhere else.

This sentence made me crack up:

This is like allowing a corsair-wielding pirate to board your vessel without a fight.

A corsair is a pirate. A pirate-wielding pirate. That makes a ton of sense. What was the guy thinking? XD

That was already mentioned in the transcript (link at the top):

[quote]Waterbury, Conn.: You write for the Washington Post and you don't even know what a "corsair" is? I believe your article mentioned "a pirate wielding a corsair." A corsair is a Barbary pirate (or possibly one of his ships) ... so you basically said "a pirate wielding a pirate." What kind of a writer uses words they don't even know the definition of? How did you ever get to be a professional writer if you make these kinds of titanically stupid errors?

I don't have facebook and don't plan to get one, but I enjoyed reading this guy's writing. There were some downright rude and hostile people asking questions, and he responded with grace and humor every time.

Funny, you would think not accepting a friend request for someone you don't know or have never met is a given. But I guess thats some of the common sense (or rather uncommon sense) that people don't have today.

I think its kind of sad that someone had to write an article dealing with this 'issue'. It shouldn't even be an issue to begin with.

Yeah, I totally agree. Considering internet safety and simple boundaries, this shouldn't be that hard to do. XD

Exactly. :thumb:

I've got privacy settings on anyways... so do most of my friends. I find it to be a heck of a lot better than myspace. No more 34728762 friend requests from who knows who or spam bots. I hear the ads are a little worse on facebook then they used to be, but I have an ad blocker on, so I can't see them. :P
