And, to think, some of these girls are doing it just for the sake of having a baby shower and getting gifts and such and such and such o.O

Probably not the main reason, but one of them for sure.

It's a trade-off - a different phase of your life. You have to lose one to gain the other, and vice versa.

Yes, I saw this earlier (though still multiple days after the event and after the statement in the link I posted). MSN news causes kitten death.

As an aside, please edit your posts instead of posting two in a row. I've merged these two for you.

What I heard on the news recently was that the girls were already pregnant and that the pact was made for them to help each other raise their babies. That doesn't look like what the online news sources are saying, though...

Just thought I'd throw that out there. I think it was something like Good Morning America.

I think reality is going to give these girls a good hard slap in the face and they won't know what to do. I just hope their children don't grow up in a completely broken home. :(

I think the movie Juno is getting too much blame placed on it. I didn't think it encouraged teen pregnancy in any way.

I've never seen the movie, but maybe it was trying to show the consequences of teen pregnancy?

Like I said, I've never seen the movie before ^^;

That's correct, Tsu. I think it actually did a good job. Wish there were more movies like it.

Juno takes a more realistic look at teen pregnancy, I think. It's not glorifying it or saying that getting pregnant as a teen is the end of the world. There's not much drama about it really and she decides early on in the movie to find a family for the baby instead of taking care of it herself or getting an abortion.

If this is true, then it kind of changes the situation. At least each one of them wouldn't be on their own with a child.

Yeah. I'd been thinking about that. Juno's message wasn't exactly "TEEN PREGNANCY IS FANTASTIC!" You're blaming the wrong thing.

ANOTHER UPDATE WOO.
The principal of a Massachusetts high school who said a group of students intentionally got pregnant stood by his comments Thursday, saying his information "was and is accurate."

In his first public statement since the controversy erupted earlier this month, Gloucester High School principal Joseph Sullivan said he does not specifically remember using the word "pact" but does not dispute it.

Ah, thanks for posting that; I hadn't seen it yet. This is where I really wish I had a better method of obtaining information (say, omniscience). If this is correct:

Jospeh Sullivan wrote:"I told her no, because my sources had informed me that a significant number of the pregnancies, especially among the younger students, were the result of deliberate and intentional behavior."

Then that raises the question of where exactly the idea of a pact came from. It would be very easy to say that someone in the media did some shifty interpretation in order to sensationalize the story, but I have no evidence for that and so I don't want to claim it...

Not saying tis is true, but MAYBE it did start out as a pact between some friends to support one another, but then the news spread around and caused a craze. Wanting to be excepted, some of the other girls go out and get pregnant.. just to belong in a group o.O

I'm not trying to bash public schools or anything like that ( went to public schools), but that sort of thing really do happen. Some people are truly lost if they don't belong to a clique o.O Some people would even change themselves completely just to "belong" O.o
