I've really felt that asian countries really need God right now. I'm glad to see that some of them are accepting God's Word.

Reading this makes me very excited! I've always loved Chinese culture (even tried to learn some Cantonese and Mandarin... TRIED being the key word). I think it's wonderful to hear that the Chinese are accepting Christ.

Something I loved was on the second page. A few weeks ago (I'll have to track down the article), but some big news site apparently reported that "people who believe in God are less intelligent". I didn't bother to read it because it was bull, but I just LOVED hearing how so many members have degrees and whatnot.

Oh ya. Us Christians? Totally crazy. Very stupid. *giggles*

But either way, go God! 50% in ten years? And that's just the ones they know? Dang that's amazing.

There are an awful lot of brain dead Christians.

The article itself is good news for a nation drowning in Communism and Atheism. I'd advise all members to avoid the comments section though, unless your blood presure is considerably lower than mine.

I know there are some messed up Christians out there, but not anymore than there are crazy people in general. Not to mention, the article I brought up simply stated (in short) "You believe in God? You are automatically less intelligent".

And also, good point over the comments section. One reason I never read comments on news sites or youtube is because people can be ruthless.

I have learned alot of their persecution and know that it is more than arrests they face. I pray God protects them.

Alot of eastern cultures associate the USA with Christians. *largely due to many missionairies of that region tend to be US*

Also I think that alot of those countries use anything outside of what ordain as "good" as a means of frightening their country to keep them under control.

I'm only speculating but that's my theory.

With Japan it's a bit more complicated. There was a period called the Warring States period where Japan was in a state of unrest, and many people rose to power to try and unify the land. One of them was Nobunaga Oda. The Japanese see Nobunaga as very cruel and vicious (he wasn't really though), and during Nobunaga's time in power, he encouraged Christian missionaries and helped support the building of the first Christian church in Japan in Kyoto.

When Ieyasu Tokugawa took over and the Edo period began, Christianity was actually outlawed. It wasn't until 1871 that Japan reintroduced freedom of religion, and by that time, Shinto had firmly established itself (being that it was the official state religion of Japan).

Further, Shinto has always been a huge part of Japanese heritage. Kind of like Indians and Hinduism. Remember Japan isn't too fond of foreigners, too. So the association of Nobunaga with Christianity, its illegality in the Edo period, and the strong association of Japan itself with Shintoism, are all reasons why Japan doesn't take to Christianity well.

As for why it's flourishing in Korea, I have no idea.

Society trends toward the path the educated go down. To us, thanks to the domination of our schools and social institutions by secular progressives, it shows we are moving away from God. (Coincidence that our power in the word is also waning?)

Both China (and Japan) are trending toward Christianity. If we can just get that government over there to open up to its people, then the world will be in good hands when they replace us at the top.

70 million?!? Holy cow! Talk about Christians doing about a billion times better than you thought they were. I had no fathoming idea that there were so many millions of Christians in China! I never knew there was such a strong movement there!

That's wonderful! Being a Christian in a persecuted nation is much more then just a label. They actually mean it.

In fact, Brother Yun ( the Heavenly Man ) said that our churches were asleep. ^^ Seeing that article just makes me want to do something about it! >8D ...but I don't know what.

Guys, I hate to burst your bubbles, but I was just in China, and there's a few things to add from that perspective:

1 - there is no way to accurately count things like this, for a number of reasons, but including mostly:

2- there is a big difference between the above-ground, 3-Self Church Christians and the underground ones. To put it simply, the government has its hand in the 3-Self church and limits what it can do (no offerings, no communion, sermons have to be approved, etc.). The above-ground church does some great things, but the underground house church network wants nothing to do with them. Obviously, since it's underground, the count is off.
3 - A lot of the Chinese I met knew a lot about the Bible, but were very resistant to Christianity.

Just stuff to think about. As for Japan's reaction to Christianity, well, that's what I'm writing my Senior thesis about. ^^;;

I'd be interested in reading your thesis, Ashley. I don't know a whole lot about Christianity in Japan except that Christians are the minority there...

I have a friend who is a missionary in China and he told us some pretty amazing things that God is doing there (when he came back to the states last summer --now he is back in China for another term).

I have a friend in Taiyuan, I don't know how much success he has had as far as to the people there but I'm sure Ill find out when school starts back

By the way, there is still a need for Bibles in many areas of China. For awhile, the printing of Bibles was strictly regulated by the government and still is as far as I know. There's especially a need for Sunday school materials for young people, since it's against the law to teach the Bible or witness to someone who is under 18, unless I'm mistaken. So if you are not a Chinese person, you have a unique opportunity to help out the growing church in China, because it's way less dangerous for a foreigner to bring Bibles and other such literature in than it is for a Chinese citizen. It's well worth the time, effort and money.

But still, as for China, there is most definitely a light. It may be small (and it may be hidden, as shown by the underground Christians), but it'll grow. We just need to pray that it does.

Like other countries, many missionaries - French, German, American - came to Korea to convert around 1800 and earlier. There's this whole history involved, but in short, I think one of the most important developments is that along the way, Koreans molded Christianity into something that is uniquely Korean, something we are very good at ;D. I've never been to Korea, but I get the impression that when people think "Christian," they don't think "USA" immediately.

I don't know about Protestants, but there are a few hints of Korean tradition during Catholic mass. I know my fellow American Catholics certainly don't bow as much as I do in Mass, lol.
