I agree about turkeys though -the fact that they've been bread for larger chests and can no longer breed naturally but only through AI. But some people are still breeding the traditional turkeys.

A lot of the videos people find online such as "Meet Your Meat" are the exception rather than the rule. I am an animal science major at my college and when we process animals for meat, there are very stringent humane laws we absolutely must follow. I won't go into all of them --but the main one is all animals must be rendered senseless before we even do anything else --that way they feel no pain. If done properly, the animal is unconscious and feels nothing.
The few plants that do not treat their animals humanely are again, the exception --not the rule. Not all plants treat the animals badly.

Just wanted to clear that up...:)

Meat is the only natural source for many of the B vitamins (including Vitamin B-12).

Edit: None of this is directed at you, Doubleshadow. I think you are doing a good thing for yourself. Just be sure to supplement your diet with the right vitamins.
This was mainly directed at those who made comments about cruelty in agriculture.

Good luck to you, Doubleshadow. Not eating meat for me would be nearly impossible since I'm a huge fan of chicken and ground beef but I think with the right vitamins, eating vegan could be really healthy. I can't say I've ever tried it but I have friends who have done it.

I think all vegetarians/vegans should be forced to eat just meat and everybody else should be forced to eat anything but meat/animal-stuffs.

Portabello mushroom hamburgers are amazing too. My friend made one for me once --you grill the Portabello mushroom and put it on a bun instead of hamburger meat. Tastes delicious. I actually hated mushrooms before I ate this --completely changed my opinion of the little fungi.

No, it was just the mushroom and the bun. Doesn't really need any condiments...tastes good as it is.

Vegans won't take vitamins for this reason - many are produced using animal products, which violates their veganness.

Although they do eat vegetables, most of which are grown using animals and animal products for labor and fertilization, though.

Humans enslave bees not just for honey but also to pollinate crops. Even (and especially) the all natural foods take advantage of forced bee labor to pollinate the plants.

In my mind, it's all a question of where on the slippery slope you want to stand. I prefer to be near the bottom (I love veal), vegans prefer near the top (avoiding as much animal enslavement as possible), but we are all still on the slope.

I think what it all comes down to is that no matter what you do, a living organism has to die in order to keep you going. It all depends on how much personality you're willing to stand that organism having.

Bingo. This is why I came a vegan for health reasons rather than ethical ones even though they're on my mind (you better believe I'm taking my vitamins). The most extreme application of vegan philosophy is a fruititarian, which is a person who only eats fruits, nuts, and seeds, and then only after they have fallen from the plant to prevent harm to the plant. Ghandi and his followers tried this until they figured out you couldn't, you know, survive this way and quit. There is veganic farming, by the way.

YEAH I WAS THINKING ABOUT THAT. I was like, wait, if vegans won't eat anything produced by an animal, then they can't eat a lot of plants because bees pollinate the flowers, and therefore they are produced by the bee, therefore their whole lifestyle comes crashing down in a barrage of facts. XD

How the heck do you "force" a bee to pollinate crops? Don't they just do it naturally?

It's like... forcing Nate to drink Mountain Dew... he just does it naturally, so you're not really forcing him.

That link does not provide any concrete proof that God mandates veganism. There's plenty of proof in the Bible, however, that he's okay with people eating meat and animal products.

1 Corinthians 10:25-26: Eat anything sold in the meat market without raising questions of conscience, 26for, "The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it."

The only meat the New Testament says not to eat is meat that has been offered in sacrifice. Even the Old Testament says that certain animals (meat) are okay to eat, but not others, for health reasons. Eating pigs, for example, was filthy and unsanitary in those times, so that's why it says not to eat them.

Quotes taken from The Vegetarian Society website:

"The only reliable unfortified sources of vitamin B12 are meat, dairy products and eggs."

" The current nutritional consensus is that no plant foods can be relied on as a safe source of vitamin B12."

In order for vegans to get enough B12 in their diet, they have to eat foods fortified with it. No plant is a natural source of sufficient B12. So the mushrooms most likely had B12 added to it --but are not of themselves a good source of B12.

And he became hungry and wanted something to eat, but while they were preparing it, he fell into a trance and saw the heavens opened and something like a great sheet descending, being let down by its four corners upon the earth.
