Smurfs live action movie?

Postby Roy Mustang » Thu Jun 12, 2008 2:05 pm

Here come the Smurfs

ICv2 wrote:A hybrid live action/animated Smurfs feature film is in development by Columbia and Sony, according to Variety. The writers from the second and third Shrek films, David Stem and David Weiss, are negotiating to write the script.

A combination of computer generated animation and live action, similar to the successful combination used for Alvin and the Chipmunks, is contemplated. Michael Lynton, CEO of Sony Pictures, reportedly was attracted to the film because of his familiarity with the Belgian comics on which the property is based.

Licensing will, of course, accompany the rejuvenation of the property.

The sad thing is, they are right about that. We are getting an Alvin and the Chipmunks 2 in 2010.

But I still like to know how they made money of that one?

Because people are stupid, Herr Colonel. They totally missed the only funny element in the movie, which was the unintentional irony. That irony was that the movie's message was not to sell out, when the movie itself was nothing that a money-whoring sell-out itself. THAT was the sole joke in the movie.

. . . yeah, I saw it in theaters. But it was because a friend's little sister wanted to, so they bought my ticket.

I'd like to take this moment to point out that "Smurfs" was originally created as communist propaganda to warp the minds of young children with various blue sprites representing varios beings/ideas (e.i. Papa Smurf = Marx, Vanity Smurf is individualism and hence always poked fun at/frowned upon, Brainy is Trotsky, "Yellow Smurf" whose name I can't recall, though I seem to remember him appearing in the Christmas special, is China. The main villain is also meant to represent capitalism/greed) That being so, while most of these live action remakes are incredibly cheesy and far worst than the classics, I wouldn't mind seeing Smurfs make its subliminal way into theaters.

The movie is computer animated. The last I heard about it (months ago), there was no live-action parts being planned.

They have lost their minds, GI JOE looks like it will be interesting, but the Smurfs..
Some of my favorite scriptures.

Psalm91
A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;
There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

Hebrews 4-4
1Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.
2For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
3For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
4For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.

James 4
Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.

Revelation 22:14
Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

Ugh, sorry, I just couldn't contain my disgust for this. I hate the Smurfs anyways (even though I'm an 80s kid, lolwut). Hollywood is sinking further into the quagmire.

They're being rejected as not "good enough" to be successful and make any money...tis the sad truth of movies...creativity doesn't matter, profit does...

Walt Disney is turning over in his grave.
If anyone needs me, I'll be pouring ashes over my head and praying for a revival of CREATIVITY in Hollywood, preferably a holy spirit-inspired anime.
