Lucas: Indy V is possible

TV, Movies, Sports...you can find it all in here.

Guys, there's no point in arguing about the new trilogy with someone under 20 years of age. >_> Except you Corrie. XD

I, too, am irritated to death by what Lucas has done to Star Wars. I mean, the 1997 Special Edition was alright-- they actually made some IMPROVEMENTS. (And if it wasn't for that, I probably would never have gotten into Star Wars-- went to see 'em in the theatre when they were re-released.)

Did he need to make even MORE changes? NO. The 1997 SE was just freaking fine, except for the Greedo shooting first thing, which we all know is BS. It's why I refuse to buy the DVDs. I don't want all that crap. I either want the 97 SE, or the original cuts. As for the Force ghost thing, Hayden Christensen can _____ a ____ing _____. (Fill in whatever you want there. XD)

Anyway, I don't want to see the same thing happen to Indy. ._.

Obviously because I'm only 17 everything I say is invalid.
I grew up on the old Star Wars movies too.
I also find those changes stupid.
I just think you're all making way too big of a deal about them.

A buddy of mine got me a t-shirt that has a picture of Abe Lincoln at Ford's Theater. He's reaching around the seat pointing a pistol at John Wilkes Booth. The caption is "Lincoln Shot First!"

It's one of my favorite shirts. :D

I fully agree. Why does Vader revearse age. His age was already screwy look at episode one Anakin and padme and episode 2 anakin and padme hmmm she did age at all. and well Hayden sucks nuff said

noooow back to the point. I loved alot about the new indy Over the top action, cool deaths (sue me i am morbid but thats what i remember from being young the final villan deaths) good humour dialouge. But things i hate is everything that was mentioned here

Yeah, I always thought it was stupid how Anakin was a little boy and Padme was a grown woman in Episode I and then in Episode II he suddenly caught up to her.

Well, anyways, I saw Indiana Jones IV today and my feelings on it were
It was a decent attempt to recreate another Indy movie that deserved the title and it did a good job with it up until the end:

"Oh wow. That temple just turned into a space ship. Ah, don't worry about it. Who cares if we just saw evidence that there is life beyond earth that is probably easily able to destroy us in seconds? As long as we hide in a refrigerator we'll be okay. For the time being, let's get married!"

I will say this. If Shia's character placed that hat on his head successfully without being interrupted by his father, I would have stormed out of that theatre an angry man.
I don't know about you guys, but all of this sounds like a great idea except for calling it Indiana Jones. At a time when Captain America is dead and many grow skeptical about whether one can fight for truth, justice, and the American way at the same time, a new kind of hero is necessary to take his place. In Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, not even brave Indy is immune to anti-communist paranoia in his own government, while the much wiser aliens embody a profoundly spiritual socialist society where even thought is shared collectively. In an age of globalization when awareness of the imperialist tendencies of neocolonialism has increased leaps and bounds from what it was a couple of decades ago, placing Indiana Jones in a desperate struggle to return an artifact to its proper cultural setting is an ideal end for the franchise. Like it or not, old Indiana Jones is ill-equipped for murky historical territory in which fighting against the powers of evil and fighting for one's country may not be the same thing, and is best left in America's deeply ambiguous golden age, the 1950's.

But, if there's anything George Lucas and Steven Spielburg learned from Joseph Cambell, it is that every society needs its heroes. We live at a time when most of the film franchises which became so popular that they helped to form the metanarrative of the culture have drawn to a close, leaving the influence of cinema as fragmented as the current postmodern age. Disney has been reduced to selling straight to video animated films, Star Wars is finished, the Lord of the Rings is finished, Star Trek is almost finished, etc. On the flip side, popular computer animated films, superhero movies, and the Harry Potter series - all of which portray their heroes having an ambivalent relation with the powers that be - have taken a certain measure of the commercial and cultural success of these earlier blockbuster icons, and point the way forward. In a word, people these days have a difficult time believing and empathizing with a hero whose primary loyalties lie with the system, but can empathize with a hero that is willing to fight for doing the right thing whether or not the system approves. In this context, "Mutt" Williams, the fresh young greaser-punk of Indiana Jones IV, shows a lot of promise for a franchise of his own. He is dashing, roguish, handsome, adventurous, quick-witted, charmingly rebellious, courageous, well educated (although he hides this fact to the best of his ability), and endearingly loyal to those to whom loyalty is owed. He's the type of hero well equipped to ethically ride out the ambiguities of the cold war between the pan-Western and Soviet empires while embodying older rebel icons like James Dean and Joey Ramone. If given the chance to shine in the leading role without fear of upstaging Indiana Jones, I'm sure he would do a wonderful job and provide a good hero to an age of confusion.

I actually enjoyed Revenge of the Sith a lot the 2nd time 'round.
The other prequels though? Blah.
I enjoyed the Star Wars SE versions also.

I thought Revenge of the Sith was excellent.
Attack of the Clones was decent.
The Phantom Menance was easily the worst Star War movie ever made.

Well, it's your opinion, I suppose.
I thought altogether the recent trilogy was much worse than the original, but I still think Revenge of the Sith was great.

The way I see it, I love all the SW movies for the story and plot they exhibit, but I wasn't too impressed with certain decisions that Lucas made.

I like the new trilogy more. *runs and hides*

But why are we even talking about the Star Wars trilogies in a topic on Indiana Jones?? Maybe someone needs to make a new thread, something like "who likes/dislikes the special editions and the new trilogy".

George Lucas can have as many ideas as he wants as long as he lets Spielberg execute them.

You know what? Let Genndy Tartakovsky do an animation of Indy V. He knows how to make incredible action scenes and not only make the characters half decent and likable, but with only the character using a grand total of 4 words of dialogue.

I still think one of the greatest crimes to Star Wars was why Lucas didn't let him do the entire first trilogy instead of the results we got.

After ruining A.I., E.T., and Transformers, I don't trust Spielberg any more than I trust Lucas. They're both insane and should never be allowed to touch a movie ever again.

Also it kind of means that the act that brought him back to the lightside was pointless anyway. Clearly the Force didn't see him as a lightsider at that time. He was CLEARLY only a lightsider when he was a whingy punk. I wonder if Hayden Christensen realizes just how much most Star Wars fans actually dislike him...

Lucas: Indy V research in the works

Sci Fi Channel wrote:George Lucas told SCI FI Wire that preliminary research has begun on a story for a possible fifth Indiana Jones movie, but added that such a film is one of dozens of potential projects currently crowding his schedule.

"It sits on the shelf there as one of 50 projects that I have to deal with," Lucas said in an interview on Aug. 4 at his Big Rock Ranch in Marin County, Calif., where he was promoting the upcoming computer-animated feature film Star Wars: The Clone Wars. "And if I can come up with a story ..."

But, Lucas added, "it's very hard to come up with stories for that thing. You know, It's really impossible. Because it has to be real. It has to be something that actually happened. It has to be something people know about. It has to be supernatural. It's a really difficult research project. Which they're researching now. You know, and last time it took 14 years. So ... "

Lucas was referring to this summer's fourth Indiana Jones film, subtitled The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which was in development for more than a decade before the pieces finally came together.

In recent press interviews, Lucas has said that the three principals--himself, director Steven Spielberg and star Harrison Ford--all have to agree on the idea for a fifth film in order to move forward. He has also said that Spielberg is more amenable to the idea of a further installment than he was last time around.
