Talk about anything in here.

So, by that logic, we shouldn't go to the doctor when we get sick, or save money just in case, or take care of our bodies, because that wouldn't be trusting God to take care of us.

This is definitely brushing very close with Christian Science doctrines that most believers would find crazy or dangerous.

I'm wondering the same thing.

Also; death is a natural process, do we then have the right to stop that using modern medicine?

Nevermind. Go ahead and think what you want. I'm out of here. I guess this is what being a minority in terms of thinking means.

I just think we shouldn't be messing with something as sacred as sex.

I just have to say something.

I feel that people think birth control is wrong, should really walk in the shoes of what its like to be born with a medical health problem.

Is it selfish to show love, when you are married?

Is it selfish to not want to bring a child in this world that could be born with the same medical problem as one of the parents?

I'm catholic and have never never ever agree with the church's stand on birth control and the use of condoms, when people are married.

There is a lot of STD's out there and really we don't know who has want in this world and you never know what the person that you are married has.

Since being born with AIDS, I have always felt that I shouldn't get married, because some people think that you should never use birth control or condoms, when having sex with your partner.

To me, the question on should you or shouldn't you use birth control is between you and your wife or husband and God.

If I had been online at an earlier point, I probably would have closed this thread. Since the discussion has become somewhat more serious, it gets to live a while longer. But still, everyone, let's try to keep chatting to a minimum here. Most of the people with strong opinions are just leaving, so the actual communication in this thread is probably reaching a minimum.

*Remembers that thread* o.o I said the exact same thing as another (different wording, but basically the same thing), but it wasn't taken well.. I guess o.o?

Having that many kids is a miracle and a blessing :) I guess the reason why this conversation had stemmed so much was out of concern. There has seemed to be a lot of concern about the parents being able to spend time with each of the kids individually. If I remember right, I think they said they spend alone time with each kid everyday. It's been a while since I saw it though, so I'm not really sure o.o As for money... I think they get a lot of help from the community ^ ^ As for housing... Their house is pretty big. I forgot how many rooms it has, but the kitchen is HUGE O__O I think they did a documentary on them on Discovery Health or something like that ^__^

Yeah, I remember seeing that show. Did they move to a bigger house in that one?

Or was it another show with multiples? o.o I can't remember...there are so many shows like this I've seen...

So yeah, I'm back. I just don't like debates. Why do we even have to bring them up?

But I'm not going there. So, yeah...J-names...have they used "Jessica" yet? ^_^

How do we know they have a disciplined household? I certainly don't see their daily lives. Yeah, they were on TV, but so what? I bet I could fake having a disciplined household if I knew millions of people were going to be watching me, especially if I belonged to a ridiculous cult that could have its reputation harmed by seeing a household of multiple children misbehaving.

Just as you have the right to assume they're all well-behaved and each receive decent amounts of attention from their parents, I have the right to assume that they're ill-behaved and that some of them are neglected. If we were talking about a family with only six, seven, heck, even eight kids, I might give them the benefit of the doubt. But eighteen? No way.

I think the point is that if they children are well looked after, the number of them is less relevant. Who is the better parent - the one with 20 healthy well adjusted children or the one with two dirty, malnourished, social misfits? There are, of course, a whole lot of other factors involved that any parents may or may not be able to control.

Since the family did spend some of their lives on TV, we at least have some evidence to go on. Simply ignoring it so it fits some predetermined pattern of what one thinks a family would be like is not very fair. Just as one may doubt any parents could handle 18 kids (some of which are adults now), I would also say I strongly doubt that you could get a bunch kinds to act a certain way in front of cameras that is completely different from how they act normally.

I could also suppose they actually own a herd of pink elephants that they use to terrorize the community into helping them finance their enormous family and no one in the community including the TV show producers want to talk about for fear of reprisal. However, I've seen the TV show and I think I'll choose to take that as evidence as to how the family really operates.

The kids are home schooled, and they have a home Bible study for church. They spend 24/7 with their mother, and since their father is in real estate, he can probably work from home a lot. I don't think under those circumstances that they get less attention then a typically family of two were the kids spend all day at school and their parents all that time and more at work, then spend the only time they're at home together either watching TV or sitting at the computer, or sleeping. Besides, when the family is always together and the older kids pitch in to help, there is no reason for the kids to think they are without proper guidance. My grandmother is the youngest of 12 and her father was killed in the coal mines when her mother was six months pregnant with her. Her brothers and oldest sister took up the slack and contributed to the parenting.

How does he make that much money in real estate?

Lucky man.

And I'm willing to assume that the family is rather happy. As I previously mentioned, I have a few friends who are all part of a twelve-sibling household. Now twelve obviously isn't as much as eighteen, but I imagine the circumstances they would face are similar. (And a lot of the younger kids are taken care of by the older ones)

And they're a happy and wonderful bunch as well. I love hanging out at their house.

I always thought real estate was a profitable business...though with today's housing market, it may be different. But how should I know? I'm not a realtor. We know two, but I haven't really spoken to either of them in a while. *shrugs*

Real estate is like a car seller, you have to really go out there and try to make a sell to make really good profits.

Can anyone imagine what the insurance policy might be like? :eh: I just couldn't help wondering what would happen if the father suffered some accident or sudden disabilities. Touch wood, of course.

Anyway, as for family planning, I would like two kids. I don't know if one can balance out between natural planning and some birth control. It's probably harder than it sounds. I mean, as it is, I already have a hard time keeping track of my eh...monthly matters. Personally, I'd avoid birth control as much as possible as I hate having something foreign hormones/compounds/whatever interfering with my body's mechanism .

....Or maybe it wouldn't even be a problem since I'll be too busy working at my office or at church to have sex. XDDD

The real estate market, for the most part, is pretty much frozen right now.
