The Customer is Not Always Right

Postby Etoh*the*Greato » Sat May 10, 2008 6:21 pm

Man, I just keep finding stuff today. Have any of you had to deal with customers? Here is a website that showcases instances submitted by users where the customer was not actually right.

No, the customer is not always right.

But the customer is always the customer.

Organizations can ignore that, but always at their peril...

Never say "the customer is always right" to your waiter/waitress at a restaurant. You don't know what they might do to your food.

Epic site. *must... resist... going... through... all... 66... pages*

I know I've been the not-right customer (my parents are epitomal not-right customers). If I get in a situation like that, though, I think I deserve to be made fun of o_O just not to my face XDDD

Customer: “How am I supposed to know that?”

That was awesome and so is this one......

"Customer: I’d like the halibut. Is there any way you can make that vegan?”

Me: “Other than by making it not be a fish, no.”

Customer: “Good point.”

I was loling so hard....

I love that site.

I need it for my daily dose of stupid to remind me that I am at least smarter than someone else.

Though, some of the customers are really cool--see "Every Store Needs One of These."

Just what I was going to say. There's this blog called waiterrant.net where this waiter details interesting stories about being a waiter. Some of the customers he waits on are just so stupid. They're morons of a second kind.

Oh, just as a warning, there is pretty heavy swearing on that blog, and just recently he posted a discussion he had with a co-worked about sex. So be careful. If you can set that aside, the blog is a fun read.

It's been my experience that the customers that we often need to remind ourselves of that fact with are the customers we actually do not want coming back to our store. Yes, we are there to offer them a service, but we're not there to put up with people who are rude, degrading insulting, belligerent, or (as the case has been at times) violent. Stores also reserve the right to deny service to anyone who fits that criteria. Shopping with us is a priv, not a right. Respect me and I'll respect you. Generally I've been lauded by my bosses for my abilities to handle customers. :D

There's also customerssuck.com and the corresponding livejournal community, but it's not quite as funny as notalwaysright. It's mostly a place for people to vent.

I've had some customers that totally made me want to post on customerssuck a few times. I actually had one falsely claim to be a secret shopper and threaten to get me fired because I couldn't find her stupid book based on information she didn't give me.

Customers can be real bricks some times. And it can be surprising how rude people can be when they step out of church. (I work in my church's bookshop on Sundays) There is a Christian radio station which was started by the church and for some reason this means that those of us working in the bookshop must know every song they ever played and who sings it and so forth. I understand how some people can think this at first, but it is really ridiculous if you think about it logically.

Also, here's some gold from Despair, Inc.

You bring up a good point. One of the really unfortunate things I've heard coming from co-workers is that some of the rudest people they have come in on Sundays dressed in their Sunday-best.

The customer is not always right. I can attest to this because I am in food service. The customers have been told for years, however, that they are right even when they are in fact, obviously wrong; so therefore, they think they are always right regardless. And thus those who have to serve/help them suffer.

Those are some crazy stories... funny too... but I feel sorry for the people who had to deal with those customers.

Customer: “What time does the film start?”

Me: “The film starts fifteen minutes after the time on your ticket. There are fifteen minutes of ads and trailers.”

Customer: “No, I said what time does the F-I-L-M start?!”

Me: “The film starts after fifteen minutes of trailers, so fifteen minutes after whatever it says on the ticket. Your ticket says 3:30 pm, so the film would start at 3:45, okay?”

Customer: “Don’t blind me with science!”

Some of those were stolen off comedy routines...

Lady: “How many slices come on the 8-inch pizza?”

Waiter: “Well usually we cut it into 6, but we can make it four, or eight or ten. Whatever you want.”

Lady: “Better just make it six…I don’t think I can eat more than six slices.”

That seems awfully similar to... I think it was a famous baseball player who used to say the same thing "Better cut it in 6 slices, I couldn't eat 12"

Some of these seem like pranks and Jackdonkey like stunts... Like the butterfinger crisp bandit and http://notalwaysright.com/ill-take-a-schizo-with-cheese/571 this one... Don't be surprised if you hear something about a baby doll from a Glendora fast food manager on this site soon. *cough*

I think this is my favorite story, though it's far from the funniest: http://notalwaysright.com/we-need-one-of-these-in-every-store/192

Some of them aren't really stupid customers as much as impatient service people... Living with my parents, I've had my fair share of frustration in helping them do anything on a computer, and I've been insulted more than a few times for "obvious" mistakes that weren't... Things like problems being fixed with reboots... It may be "obvious" to IT people, but it's not to the average person. I know now (I'll never forget it after being derided for my ignorance) of course, but I still get this sort of treatment from Computer geeks to this day... UT Mod forums are particularly bad for people getting on those who make "obvious" mistakes like running photoshop and Unreal Editor at the same time, or not knowing the exact order that models and textures should be imported and saved and built... So, while most of these were pretty funny to me, some of them sort of felt a bit mean unnecessarily.\

EDIT: Apparently, the site wasn't working right earlier because I'm seeing a lot more pages now that I never saw before... Man... There's some funny stuff on this.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evcNPfZlrZs Watch this movie なう。 It's legal, free... And it's more than its premise. It's not saying Fast Food is good food. Just watch it.
