I don't think it's so much the age as it is the act of raping a 10 year-old. After all, we don't live in a middle age culture, we live in a culture where 10 year-olds are children and should not be treated in such an abusive way.

Also, that 5 year-old pregnant girl...wow, that's bizarre.

When I said "not that its appropriate in today's age though" I meant it. Back then life-spans were very short, so boys and girls got married at a young age around 10-15. The girls had babies, then the kids(When at appropriate age. Or when they could walk.) would work with their father in the fields(Back then it was crucial to get a family as fast as possible because of the small life span.). But nowadays now that the natural life span has been doubled, so has the mating age. See it went from 10 years to 20 years of age. So you can see why they had to have babies at a young age, although its not considered appropriate by today's society. I mean if the earth were around another thousand years and the life span went up to 100, would the mating age go up? Probably not, but then again they might think its too young to get married at age 20.

Correct me if I'm wrong (I'm pumped full of Asian Mother Conventional Wisdom), but while girls got married at that age, they probably weren't having kids until at least 12 or 13. I know 12 isn't a huge step up from 10, but girls begin puberty earlier now than they did back then (those with exceptional conditions not withstanding).

Well okay your probably right about the birthing age. I meant to say that that was the age of marriage. But who knows, they could have had babies that young. These are questions we really can't answer.

Yeah, I read in another article that someone commented on. Saying he may not even be charged due to not being legally reported or something like that o.o

Yeah, that is true o.o I have cousins back in Laos who are mothers at the age anywhere from the age of 12 and up, so I guess it's not as surprising as I thought, but at the same time it is @___@

...Were they married? Hm, I don't know if legal marriage makes it OK (since there have been infants and children married in certain countries), but although society says little kids + sex = bad, I can't think of a Bible verse that says anything similar. I would guess that someone married and involved in sex should be able to consent and understand all of its implications to make it morally/socially acceptable, but who knows; kids are growing up fast nowadays...

Anyway, you are completely correct in that there is no verse stating an "age of consent" as far as marriage. The only thing that comes close is that we are commanded to follow the laws of our earthly governments, so long as it does not force us to sin. Which means if the country you live in says it's 18, then you must obey that. If they say it's 10, you must obey that too.

I realize that sentence is worded oddly in that it makes it sound like I'm saying you must get married at that age. But I'm sure everyone knows what I mean, so I'm too lazy to figure out how to word it better.

Anyway, This is wrong on so many levels. Not only did this guy defile this young girl, but he also impregnated her and caused her to go through something that NO 10-year-old should have to go through. This girl is going to have some problems--MAJOR problems.

As for the pregnant 5 year old that ShiroiHikari posted about, I found it very interesting that until the age of 10, the child didn't know that his "sister" was really his mother and that the mother was more interested in playing with her dolls than with her real child.

A humans skin is pretty flexible. It might have hurt like heck, but as the picture proved, it's possible. Heaven only knows what would've happened if she carried the child to term.

The Bible does state that marriage is a union between a man and a woman, not just a male and a female. But it's kind of hard to decide at what universal age a male becomes a man, since people mature mentally at different ages and develop physically at different ages.

So yeah, there is no verse that says "You must be 21 before you marry.", but I'm sure Nate didn't mean that to say girls should marry at ten. Don't worry. I know what you're talking about. :thumb:

The Bible implies (though not directly states) that the age of adulthood is 13, which is why Jews celebrate Bar Mitzvahs at that age.

12-13 was the actual marriageable age. What difference does that two to three years make? Puberty. Proof of consumation of the marriage would've been vital as marriages were business contracts, and if the girl wasn't giving birth the wedding could potentially be anulled, so best get them married and popping out kids ASAP.

No worries, Nate ^^ We get what you're saying ^__^

Hmm, I wonder if the 5 year old even realized what was going on at the moment o.o? I mean, of course she would want to play with her dolls at that age o.o That's what little girls like to do. I mean, did she even realize of the significance of her own situation o.o?

Maybe. Likely she could of thought babies were supposed to be taken care of by adult mothers and not by little girls? She had no knowledge of taking care of a baby?

This thread disturbs me on so many levels... ._.
I'll just go ahead and say that I am absolutely horrified by the mere concept of conception at such an early age. Kids... Children... having children of their own?! There's so much moral and spiritual corruption going on here that I shudder at the very thought.
