Here we go again--Woman pregnant with 18th Child

Talk about anything in here.

Postby Shao Feng-Li » Sat May 10, 2008 9:59 pm

Only a few forms of birth control are anything even remotely resembling dangerous. The most birth control will usually do to a woman is give them unusual mood swings.

Well, that's good.

If I never have sex, I will never have a child, and God cannot "will" otherwise.

Then it was His will that you wouldn't have a child.

If you take it before the act (such as something you need to stay on a monthly basis with) it is generally something that acts to prevent conception. That's not the same as the "baby killin'" drugs that you take afterwards.

Birth control consists of two things. I'm not arguing right or wrong, that's not what I'm here for but I want to make sure that people know the differences between the parts of "birth control." For the sake of this exercise I've invented words that I would like everyone to adopt because I enjoy having power over people's actions and never really got to start a fad before (Ok, so everyone on my college campus is using a Mac, and I was the first, but I'm really still not sure if that was me).

You've got your Premies which come before hand. They actively prevent conception.
Then you've got what I affectionately call the Posties which terminate an existing conception - whether that conception has gotten to what we'd usually call a pregnancy or not. The morning after pills are meant to flush your system of anything that might potentially be a fertilized egg.

But the Pill can cause an abortion in some cases because it affects the lining of the uterus and some women still ovulate on the Pill. The Pill prevents the embryo from implanting in the uterus.

Loud. Annoying. Smelly. Ugly. And I realize I'm not smart in the least but there's a certain baseline level of intelligence I desire when I talk to someone. Children do not have this.

Nate, you can't generalize all kids like that... Some of them- SOME- are actually well behaved and smell nice... not the boys so much, but grown men don't always have a pleasing aroma XD

What do you mean "as a child?" o.o I wasn't aware my self-hatred ever stopped.

I just got scolded...

18 children is crazy. I come from what is considered a big family where I live (four children, two parents) and I can't imagine how anymore than six children would be a good thing in this day and age. There is already so little time in the day for families to spend together, and the larger it is the less attention there is to go around. A child or two is bound to get ignored with this many.

Shao Feng-Li (post: 1225097) wrote:Or just forget the stupid birth control all together... :shady:

There's just... no biblical warrant whatsoever for it...

This is theological debate bait if I've ever seen it. Can we keep these comments to ourselves, please?

It should also be noted that this occasionally happens naturally, with or without the pill.

Okay, that's a bit low. It's not always the child's fault that they are dumb, but the people raising them. I have two little cousins who are extremely intelligent for their age--one of them is two years old, speaks in complete sentences and can color-coordinate her mom's outfits. Both children are reasonably more intelligent, humble, and sweet than adults I have seen while at the supermarket.

Just because one child is a drooling, poorly-cared for creature who had the misfortune of being the recipient of unattractive genes, does not mean that all of them are.

I agree.

On the subject that's really something that she bore that many children. Wow.
Some of my favorite scriptures.

Psalm91
A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;
There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

Hebrews 4-4
1Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.
2For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
3For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
4For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.

James 4
Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.

Revelation 22:14
Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

All I'm going to say is that I intend to use some form of non-abortive birth control when I get married, and there's nothing anybody can say to convince me that I'd go to hell for it. :P

Oh and also, I thought Onan was punished because he directly disobeyed God, not because he shot it out on the ground. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I would guess that this varies. My mother bore four of us and each child had a different difficulty level. Apparently I was the easiest, and my younger brother was the most difficult.

That's good, my mother originally had three other children aside from me and my brother.

I see nothing bad about the woman having that many kids.

I'm not saying that they're dumb. I refrained from using "dumb" or "stupid" for that reason. What I meant was that they're not fully mentally developed yet and that rubs me the wrong way for whatever reason. Someone tried to get me to amuse their kids by playing a game of Uno at church, and let me just say that it frustrated me because none of them would follow the rules and it's not like I could yell at them.

I suppose I could yell at my own kids though. That'd be an advantage. But then they'd probably hate me. Of course the feeling would be mutual, but...still.

No... No, I can't... say it...

(And, they aren't supposed to stay stinker for too long...)

And yes. Playing a game with rules with little kids in a pain in the butt. DON'T BOTHER.

You might feel different about your kids. Because, they'd be your dang kids, not someone else's dang kids. I often dislike other people's kids... At least at my job right now...

Something I'd also like to bring up is the risk you are bringing to your child and yourself having pregnancies late in life. Medical science has come a long way, but I would still say it's irresponsible to bring a child in to the world intentionally past age 40. You're running heavy risks by 36.

Haha, it's the opposite with me; I love kids, but I know that if I had any, I would probably like them less. Probably goes hand in hand with being Asian... and female, and therefore a potential Asian Mom.

You're running heavy risks by 36.

Hmmm, my mom had my little brother when she was 37...

... wait, that explains everything!

I guess it's harder if your parents (like mine) are late bloomers =/ But adoption is a great alternative imo...

The pregnancies become harder and you run greater and greater risks of danger to the child the older you get by that point. By 41 you're seriously playing with fire.

The major issue I have with Abortion is abortion as a form of birth control. It infuriates me, and strikes me as being heavily selfish.

Mostly true, but many birth control pills carry an increased risk of blood clotting (which is why my doctor wanted to make sure I was recovered enough from surgery first before I go on it for my acne/menstrual problems...I'm still a little scared to take it...but I've tried everything else.)

I'd just rather stick to natural family planning as a method of birth control. No risk of anything breaking and you getting pregnant or of a pill causing adverse reactions/effects.

Still, if I can have children, they will be a blessing--even if they're not exactly planned.

And I agree with the increased risks with increased age --the risk for Downs and other disorders increase with age--though even Downs children have a purpose and are a blessing to be around (I've worked with Autistic/Downs/CP kids at camp).

My mother had me at 38 and had a very, very hard time of it. She had a diabetic pregnancy and I was 10 pounds when I came out. I wouldn't wish that on anybody. Then again, I'm the most normal child she had. One of my older sisters is deaf and blind and the other came out with the cord wrapped around her neck and has always been a little slow.

Also, I don't want to be 60 when my kids are 20 if I can help it.

And on that note I'd like to point out the wonderful surgical options available! Yeah, it may not be 100% with women, but it is with us guys! I'm told it's a minimal loss of sex life too.

Shiroi - My Dad is actually in that age range for me. Mom's ten years younger than him, though, and he's been married twice before that. I've got lots of siblings who are all -way- older than me.

Effectively spending time with kids and having them listening to you is somewhat similar to improvisational acting.

You just gotta carry through with whatever randomness the kids do. Don't assume you will fully control them, but at least control them to the level where they will behave. Oh, and mad amounts of patience is always required. XD

It's pretty much a skill that you have to acquire.

The only objections I have are these:

1) It's ridiculous to assume that they can spend a significant amount of time with each of those kids, which will be especially important the older they get.

2) Their father must have to work incessantly to pay for all those kids. That can't be healthy for him.

3) Naming all your kids with the same first letter is grade-A lame.

Yeah, seriously, J names? Those are some of the lamest and most generic in the book. If they were L or S names, it might be a little better.
