Oh yeah I forgot one. Air. Not the ending, which I loathed. But the part where
Michiru disappears
made me not really cry hard, but I did tear up quite a bit.

I tend not to cry when I'm reading manga or watching anime (books are a different story), but I distinctly remember tearing up while I read volume 16 of Fruits Basket.
Oddly enough, not the part when Katsuya dies; instead what really got me was when Kyoko snaps out of her grief and realizes she left Tohru alone. The scene where she comes home and finds Tohru waiting for always makes me cry.
I haven't cried in an anime or manga yet, but I don't generally cry while viewing any form of entertainment.

I actually missed that episode, but I agree with you. She was super annoying.

I have never openly bawled at any anime or manga, but there were a few times I shed a silent tear over one.
In FMA, after Mustang killed Lust... Gluttony's two panels of sobbing caused me to weep along with him for a moment. What was it that was said about "the tears of a fat man"?
I have gotten angry at times, though. QUITE angry. The question is: Who am I supposed to get mad at? The character, or the manga-ka? :eh:

XD You have now won the thread.

I laugh at some death scenes. Normally when I feel that they where un-realistic. Nah, corny would be the more appropriate term here. XD

Beautiful. UC, you are my hero.

There was a random death scene of a minor character in Excel Saga, in one of the first episodes I think. The woman is uttering her final words and then this random train comes past and her true love can't hear anything she said. It had me in stitches! :forehead: The fact that it was really late at night and I was watching it with my cousins might have contributed though.

Let's see.

-Fruits Basket:
Ending, when Tohru was talking to Akito.
-Fullmetal Alchemist:
The aforementioned Nina and Hughes scenes. And I think the Nina scene was the only thing that's ever made me cry in a manga.
-Naruto: I can't remember exactly which parts I cried at. xD;; It's been a long time since I watched it...

-Bleach:
Renji's flashback to his growing up with Rukia, and then the end of that episode when he begs Ichigo to save her. ;__; And I think I got a bit teary in episode 40 when Hanatarou goes out to stand up against Byakuya even though he knows he'll die. <333 Hana is my favorite character.
Oddly enough, though I cry a lot at movies and anime, I hardly ever cry at books or manga. O.o I've only ever cried at one manga and two books in my life.

That might be at least partly because of the music and such in movies and anime. Many people don't realize just how powerful background music is, I think. It really sets the scene...or ruins it. For example, I was watching an episode of Last Exile last night that was a heated battle...yet the music was way too peaceful. It really jarred me, even though I understood that they were going for a parallel with ballet or something like that XD

Oh, that is so true. Music can make or break a movie/series. I think I enjoyed the FMA anime so much in part because the score was extremely well done - there were a few scenes that weren't even very sad that brought tears to my eyes because of the music and tone. On the other hand, bad music can completely ruin a movie... As much as I love Bleach, there's a couple of tracks in that soundtrack that make me cringe every time they come up because they're rather jarring and never seem to work. I think Bleach is a superior series to Naruto plot-wise, but I also say Naruto definitely has it beaten in the area of music.

And it always, always gets me when happy scenes are coupled with sad, melancholy music. ;___; It's almost more heartbreaking than sad scenes with sad music, because of that contrast.

... Anyway. Sorry, I got rather off-topic there. xD;;

Anime or manga that made me cry?

Hands down--Bardock: Father of Goku. I was depressed after that movie, and I think I shed some tears. Oh--and that one DBZ movie about Trunks.

Oh--either the first or second books (or chapters?) of FMA made me kind of depressed, but I was more angry than that. The first episode (flashback) made me depressed also, but I was more grossed-out than that.

One more:
In FMA
where the little girl's cat Chico died and she had to learn about death and how Izumi couldn't bring her back to life and disrupt the order of things because she was not God. It was kind of ironic because that is exactly what Ed and Al did with their mom--they tried to play God and bring her back. That scene totally made me cry a little--mostly because I love cats and the cat died. Oh kitty, why did you have to die?!? :waah!: Also the sad irony as Ed and Al are faced with what they did and have to own up to it.
"Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

Oh, definitely Grave of the Fireflies. Also, I cried at the end of Metropolis when
Kenichi grabbed onto Tima's robotic hand and she had to let go and fall down
That was pretty sad too.

Definitely. Michiru Oshima is, possibly, my favorite Japanese composer (possible contenders would be Koh Ohtani and Nobuo Uematsu). She seemed to really take the philosophy of the music seriously: "Fullmetal Alchemist has this mysterious power to it. To me it seems it's got tranquility and change, light and shadow, always in contrast, always coexisting. It has deep sorrow, but also strength to support it. That's why I began composing having decided that the music needed to be powerful, clearly conveying both gentleness and sadness." (Quote found in the booklet for the fifth FMA DVD.)

And, to make my post not COMPLETELY off-topic, I teared up in the final episode of Last Exile when
Claus and Lavie found their fathers' Vanship, then looked inside and saw their fathers' bodies.
I always start to cry when I see other people crying.

The last episode of Tactics made me cry. I loved Tactics 'till the end. Now I think I hate it! OK maybe not hate, but I don't like it as much!
And I think Naruto has made me cry but I can't remeber when.

Kitchen Princess book 6, which I picked up on Saturday.
I started crying when Sora died, and also cried when Najika finished cooking, turned around, and realized that he wasn't physically there talking to her, and that he'd never eat anything she made ever again. Then there was also when Najika wanted to die so she could be with her parents and Sora, but they told her that she was supposed to continue living. Aa, stuff with death makes me cry. TT^TT
Oh yeah, and the mini story in book 4.
When the one girl that Najika didn't realize was dead appears to her classmate, kisses him, and leaves in a swirl of leaves, saying she'll always be with him. *cries*
*is crying* *must be issues with people being separated by vast distances or something*

Ayashi no Ceres (manga)- I had to skip around when reading this one, because of the lack of volumes available u_u I actually just teared at this part.
When Kagami dies and he tells Alex to take care of the future Tennyos o.o
Air TV (anime)- I cried at a couple scenes too ^^

XXXHolic: Volume 5
When Watanuki helps a murdered child over to the afterlife. She refuses to go since "no one will recognize her" and they think she will be "dirty" since she is not like she was before. Watanuki than assures her that he doesn't think those things nor would anyone else. For the first time the girl trusts someone and makes peace with her death and goes with Watanuki, hand in hand, toward the other side. When Watanuki awakes he is still clutching the small, skeletal hand of the little girl saying: You were brave to be alone for so long."
After reading Volume 10 of XXXHolic a second time around this part made me pretty sad.
After Watanuki is in a terrible accident. Himawari and Domkei come into Yuko's shop to have a wish granted for his survival. Dōmeki sacrificed his blood for him while Himawari out of love and guilt took his scars from the accident. So, now Himawari will permanently be marked by the incidents that occurred just for the sake of saving Watanuki from death.
Also: Volume 13 of Tsubasa Resevior Chronicles the part where:
Kurogane is clutching his dead mother's body and than annihilates an entire army due to his grief.
Naruto:
I felt I was going to cry during the last part of Zabuza arc, when he started crying for Haku.
Maybe a few other times too.
Full Metal Alchemist:
Now this series made me what to cry so many times,it was so emotional.

BTW we should get a crying smilie sometime.

The most I've cried over an anime was the Rurouni Kenshin OAV 'Trust and Betrayal'. I sobbed all the way through the ending and the credits too!

Other animes that made me cry were Voices of a Distant Star, Chrono Crusade, Grave of the Fireflies, Millenium Actress...the list goes on and on.
