Fundamentalism strikes again!

Talk about anything in here.

Truth.

I'm heavily into Bob Marley, yet you don't see me smokin' kaya or worshipping Hailie Selassie I!

There was a time I listened to Inkubus Sukkubus, yet it didn't turn me pagan!

So yeah, it can affect you if you let it. Most of us don't.

There is a difference between what I would call Traditional Protestant Fundementalism and the type that has been discussed in this thread thus far.
Traditional Protestant Fundementalism gets its name from a series of pamphlets published in the early 20th century titled Fundementals of the
Christian Faith.
Those Protestants who adhered to the doctrines set down in the pamphlets later became known as Fundementalists.
Among the beliefs put force were:The Trinity,The Virgin Birth,The Deity of
Christ,The Bodily Resurrection of Christ and the Bodily Return of Christ.
Now what we have here in this thread isn't so much anything to do with any doctrine but a bunch of manmade dos and don'ts.
Such things as don't drink beer or don't go to certain movies have nothing to do with rather one is a Christian, and certainly not wheter or not one is a Fundementalist or not(although most Fundementalists I know don't drink
beer but that is neither here or there).
In conclusion I find the entire story sad in that there is not only a misuse of the word Fundementalist but also in that the very idea of Church Discipline as been terribly misused.

First, I would like to point out a few verses:

These verses make it pretty clear that God is concerned, not only with what you actually do, but what your motives and internal desires are. Just because you are not knocking off old ladies and stealing their Caddilacs in real life, does not mean that you aren't sinning. Becuase I am not God, I do not know what your motives are, so I will not condemn you for playing GTA4 (in fact, I have heard that is a pretty fun game). I would encourage you, however, to ask yourself why you are playing that game (or, relating to the OP, why you are listening to that cd).

Also, I would like to point out the last part of the above quoted verse. If your right hand makes you stumble, it is better to cut it off! By this standard, giving up a video game or a cd seems pretty tame.

Also, even if the cd/game isn't making you sin, you need to ask yourself, is it really worth my time?

Does music with bad lyrics or GTA fit the bill?

If you can play this game without sinning in your mind or real life, if you have discovered deep spiritual truths in the game (hey, it could happen) thereby considering it worth dwelling on, and you can honor God while playing it, there is still one more thing to consider.

Whether you like it or not, Nate, you are in a position of responsibility on these boards. As you are easily the most outspoken person here, you undoubtably have an effect on the younger people on these boards (some of whom do not have other positive role models). Please ask yourself, "Do I really want to be endorseing zero media restraint among these people?". It may not be a stumbling block for you, but it could very easily be one for someone else. You need to be mindful of that when you promote something that is of dubious or perhaps even negative spiritual value.

Finally, I do not want to get into an argument with you, I would merely like you to consider and think about what I have said. The same goes for Eric, please think about your media choices.

Well said!

That's because she removed it after I told her I'd take the place. I moved in with a girl named Audrey. She's in her mid-20's, has a master's degree in ag economics (I believe) and works for the USDA. She actually went to the same college I went to for a year (Purdue University). She's quite nice and we get along very well.:) It's a 3-bedroom condo that's really close to where I work (no more having to pay for gas!....until I get a car, that is, but I won't be using it too often anyways.).

I read through some of the lyrics - guess I wouldn't be surprised if it amplifies any sadness or depression. It has nothing to do with "OMGOSH seculaz music IZZZ SO EVILZ" but it's just that music has such an impact on me, I can't help wondering. Don't get me wrong - just looking out for ya, brother.

If it weren't for many of those bands, I would not have had the inspiration to start my own studio project (old school death/black metal....and possibly another one later as well, might make that one Christian brutal death metal, since that area is quite lacking), though it is still a good ways off from really writing anything aside from lyrics (still need more equipment and teach myself to play guitar, which I have plenty of free time to do that when I get one).
