Steve Vs The Giant Alien Potato!

Postby sondog » Wed Apr 16, 2008 3:28 pm

Well, it's not exactly Manga but...here's a little stop-motion animated short (STEVE VS THE GIANT ALIEN
POTATO!) that my 13-year old nephew and I created recently. It's a
little rough but I think it's pretty funny: :D

Hahaha, that was awesome!

Though when his shirt said "SS", I couldn't help but think of the Schutzstaffel, as in German SS Officers.

Hehe, that was cool! You certainly have a talent for stop motion/computer animation.
Just curious: where did you get the music from?

That was awesome! You sure have been given a talent for animation ...and a lot of patience...

The noise made by every hit is probably the best part.

I got the music from a number of sources -- various right-free music libraries (mostly Smartsound) that I have purchased over the years, plus some sound effect libraries.

Thanks so much to you all for the encouragement and kind words. It was a lot of fun, but if I do anymore stopmotion, I probably won't use Lego's. They are very difficult to animate! :dizzy:

I like the special effects and stuff.
Good story,too.

Weird...I've always heard that Lego were easier to animate.
I still prefer to animate with Lego, though I've tried other things like Minimates.

BTW It's nice to see a fellow brickfilmer over here since I make brickfilms too. See my Sig.

Thanks, glad you liked my little flick! :)

The strength of Lego is that you can quickly create all kinds of fun worlds and backgrounds. And it also has a lot of pre-fab little people to work with. But the work of animating the little people is very difficult compared to working with larger, more flexible models. That's why professional stop motion models are all much larger than Lego people.

But of course the problem is that if you don't work with Lego products, you have to make your own models or pay a premium for them. But if you want to do anything professional with stop motion (ie - actually sell your videos or create product for others to sell), then you can't legally use products owned by others (like Lego products).

Well, you'd have to work out some sort of licensing deal with LEGO, anyway . . . after all, they used LEGO to make the music video for The White Stripes' "Fell in Love With a Girl" (great video, BTW - look it up if you haven't seen it). As long as you grease the appropriate palms . . .
