Now that the avatar size checking has been fixed, I will be deleting any avatar from the database that is larger than 90x90 pixels and 15k in filesize using an automatic script. Just thought I'd give some warning.. and provide an explanation for those who find that their avatar has disappeared.

Why did you limit the size to 90x90 specifically? Most of the avatar selection I choose from is 100x100.

A pixel limit must be set, otherwise people will upload really large avatars that mess up the table structure. We happened to chose 90x90 originally. It's very easy to find avatars that are 90x90px or smaller.

Heh, I resized mine.... then, tried to put it back in, but it wouldn't let me, saying that the picture file size was to large. So, I check the original file size and it was 128k! Oops... sorry that I wasn't conscientious about the file size and image size. I'm still trying to figure out how it was that large.... I saved it as a Jpeg.

If you save a JPEG as "best quality" then it doesn't compress at all -> large image... saving as a GIF or lower quality JPEG would have made it smaller.

Oh, gotcha', thanks!

(Saves me time of redoing, stuff) I always just assumed JPEG made it smaller and thought non the wiser. :lol:

Oddly, my version of Photoshop (v5.0.2) doesn't let me save as a Gif, so I have to go through M$-Paint.

I do my avatars at 60x60, or 80x80 at the most, and gifs. It's pretty easy to do. If anyone needs help, contact one of the graphic artist people on here, me included.

I've already deleted any avatars over 15k in size.. still need to find a way of clearing out the ones that are bigger than 90x90 pixels.

It's where my boyfriend (he hosts my avatar there for me) if you can't host it through here(I'm still lost how to host here, but that's because i'm being lazy and haven't srunk my avatar....) you can sign on there....
