Digimon fans?

Postby Angel Tifa » Fri Apr 04, 2008 7:25 pm

After 6 long years, I finally started watching the Digimon anime series again :). I don't know if it's just me, but it does seem to be under rated. How could I even forget to list this as one of my favorite animes XD? I even finally saw the entire 1st season and am now watching season 2 :)!

My favorite characters of the show btw are Matt, T.K., Mimi, and Kari.

ahhh my childhood... XD

I loved the first season the best, especially when they had the whole "Mysterious 8th digidestined" arc.

Yeah this anime came out when I was a teenager, but it still held my attention ^^.

The first two seasons were great, but 3 and 4 I haven't seen and I already don't seem too fond of because they weren't the same characters :(. But I'll at least give them a try just for the sake of open-mindedness ^^.

The first season was awesome and the second was good, but they seem to have changed the whole thing from there...like, they even digivolve differently....

My favorite part of season 1 was the whole Myotismon (sp?) story. It was awesome.
"Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

Ahh! Digimon is a part of my childhood. Season 1 was my favorite. I loved the Myotisimon and Pidemon stories.

I think my favorite Digimons are Palmon, Togemon, Lilymon, Garumon, Garurumon, Gatoman, Angewoman, Nefertimon, Patamon, Angemon, Pegasusmon, Armadillomon, and Flamedramon.

Gaaah season 4 is so underrated! As great as Adventure was (and Tamers wasn't bad either), Frontier was amazing. Humans that turn into Digimon? You can't beat that. Some of the designs were really appealing (Agnimon and Shutumon were my faves), and the story/kid angst was excellent. Kouichi had this great (melo)dramatic story and relationship to Kouji, he was about as fascinating a character as Ichijouji Ken.

Aaah, now I want to watch Frontier again!

I haven't seen much of Savers, I'm afraid; anyone know if it's good?

I love Digimon!!! It is currently on my top 10 anime list. I include all 5 seasons in that because I thought they were all great. It really is under-rated, a lot of people seem to just look at it and pass it over as something "kiddy" or a Pokemon rip-off, when every season has had a pretty epic story and great character development.

My favorite season is definitly Frontier, it rocks!! The music is amazing, and I loved the whole "turning into digimon" thing, and it has my favorite Digimon character (Junpei) and one of my favorite romance pairings (Junpei/Izumi). I've even created two Digimon Frontier AMVs (go watch them now, lol! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_mq-U_2I54 and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dSVtcynVYA0) and am currently working on a Digimon Frontier fanfic.

Angel Tifa, when you get to seasons 4 and 5, I'd highly recommend you try and watch the fansubs. Its not that the dub is bad or anything (the voice acting and writing are excellent) but they changed all the music, and took out the japanese vocal songs, and the music is one of the best things about the series. It just isn't the same without the amazing "With the Will" and "Believer" evolution themes to accompany the battles.

Yep! I'm a pretty big Digimon fan, if I do say so myself--though I haven't seen the series in years!

My favorite character, far and away, has to be Koushiro "Izzy" Izumi from season's 1 and 2.

In fact, it's from Digimon and this particular character where I was inspired for 1/3 of my screen name came from!

Yep. "Digimon: Data Squad" was released not too long ago. From what I heard, it's a little deeper than the previous seasons.

Back when we were too young to realize just how much they cut from the original japanese version. Even the opening theme song was chopped from pieces of the original. And don't get me started on the end theme...

Yeah, I remember that. Fox Kids hyped it up so much..."Who is the 8th Child?" Obviously Fox Kids thought it's viewing audience was a bunch of nitwits. It was practically told to us in one of the earlier episodes. I'll put it in spoiler bars for those who have yet to see the series (and for those who haven't seen the series...what the heck???)

Oh yeah, do you guys remember the big "Daikari" vs. "Takari" beef? That was just hillarious to watch.

Huh? What's with the "Used to watch it". Heck, I still do!

My fav season was Tamers. The ending episode makes me cry every time I watch it...and I watched it last month for the seventh time!!

Savers is Okay. Not my favorite season, although I do like Nanami's clothing. ((GothLoli, FTW!))

Frontier was good, but slow in the beginning, but a good ending. Poor Kouichi and Kouji!

Sad to say, I don't like the first two as much as the others.

Veemon is still hilarious to watch, though!! >XD

I'm not sure where the parts of Digimon I saw fit in, but there was this bit with this giant pink blob thing attacking a city. I really don't remember much of the details. It showed as a marathon one Saturday, needless to say I didn't get any homework done that day. If anyone can tell me where this fits in it would be great!

YAY!!! I'm all about some Digimon!!!

Tamers is my favorite season, since I like the stronger SciFi aspect and how the stories take place in this world more than the digiworld. The first season is my second favorite, since it probably has the best cast. Season too started out cool (Emperor Ken is probably the coolest character EVAR), but I think the story kind of bogged down in the second half. I gotta confess, I didn't like Frontier much when it first aired, but it's grown on me since then. And I'm TRYING to like Savers/Data Squad since it's the most SciFi since Tamers, but I just don't like the characters as much, ya know?

Digimon Season 3

Postby Angel Tifa » Tue Apr 08, 2008 9:42 pm

To be honest after watching the first 16 episodes of Digimon Season 3, I've just found it to be dissapointing :thumbsdow. The plot was just way too slow and I'm not a fan of the characters tbh :eyebrow:.

However even though I though season 4 was going to be much worse, I did see the first episode of the 4th season of Digimon and that seemed way better and looked more promising at least :).

I can understand where you might be put off by the beginning of Tamers. It did change the formula up a lot, as well as being set in an alternate universe. Its probably a long time to hang in there, but it does get really really epic and serious from episode 34 on.

Yeah, but that's a bit too long if you ask me XD. But I'll give it another go sometime. I just like it better where the series takes place in the digital world because it does make the plot more intense and heavier.

See, I actually liked Tamers from the start, way before it moved into the EPIC part of the plot. I think the slower, more realistic storytelling was a step up from the more formulaic way the other seasons jump headfirst into adventures. I'll readily admit that the characters aren't as likable as the other seasons, though (especially since we had two whole years to get to know the previous cast)

As far as Data Squad goes Hoshi is my favorite character partly because the same VA who does her is the one who also was Sora in the original.
