I just seen this on the news tonight. In South Korea a museum has created masterpieces that react and talk to attendees.
One shown was the Moana Lisa and the Last Supper talking to the attendees.

Sounds crass if you ask me.

My question is "why?" This is somewhat answered in some of the statements made by the museum, but I'm not sure they are good reasons.

I'm still not particularly struck with it now that I've seen it, and I think there better ways of getting the public to appreciate art.

There is truth in that. I do believe there is better ways to get people to appreciate art.
I'd still like to see in person. Though it's not going to make me appreciate art. 1) It wouldn't in the first place. 2) I already appreciate it.

I miss the good old days when you could just cut out the eyes in portraits, hide in the walls, making attempts on people's lives.
