I suspect that the number was inflated by bots. Unless you have the breakdown of users vs. non users....

Most users ever online was 565, Yesterday at 09:15 AM.

That doesn't mean, we had 565 members at one time. That is the total of everyone (members, non members and bots) that's looking at the board at that time.

When I sign on, there was only 18 members, but we had 101 guests and a few bots looking at the board.

What'd joo guys do?

To answer that question. At 9:15 pst, which would have been 12:15 est for me; I just got up out of bed.

Im also est so I was getting out of bed around that time. I try to get up early, but it never works out. Anyways why would there be that many members on CAA on a Saturday in the morning? I always sleep in so that never happens.

Just a quick question, what are bots exactly?

And, animedude90: A bot is a little program that places like Google and Yahoo! send out to index websites for their search engines. There are also harmful kinds that are sent out by commercial websites to post advertisements for their products/websites.

I don't think we have statistics for the specific breakdown at that moment, but one can be fairly certain that traffic is mostly bots of some sort. For example, as of this post we have 94 "currently active users" but only 19 are actual members. One is a spambot (banned, of course) and over 40 of the visitors are Yahoo spiders.

Spiders are programs that go crawling (hence the "spider") through links in an effort to find and categorize new pages. That's how search engines get their results. Forty is overkill, though (by contrast, there are usually only a few Google spiders).

if that's true, then Yahoo's spiders are NOT behaving properly. They should be observing some specific rules that frankly does not involve 40 simultaneous visits. I'm going to cull through some of these logs - if we've got badly behaving bots, I may get cranky. (You wouldn't like to see me get cranky).

There always seem to be a ton of them, listed as "Yahoo Slurp Spider." Though it struck me as odd, my primary thought was, "Oh, so that's how they got more objects than Google."
