What CAA means to you

What CAA means to you

Postby JediSonic » Tue Mar 25, 2008 4:55 pm

Obviously, this is a great place to meet christian anime fans.. but isn't it also more than that?

I've barely posted here at all in the past year or so on the grounds that
1) I'm super busy
2) I would scarcely call myself an anime fan
3) Isn't it better to talk to people in real life or at the very least real-time?

And yet here I am, posting this! The reason is that after taking a look around, there really does seem to be a lot of conversation going on that
A) has nothing to do with anime
B) is a lot more intelligent than most of what i see in real life
C) is a lot more christian than most of what i see in real life

Though I originally came to it 4.5 years ago when I thought i sparked an interest in drawing [anime], I have also seen people share writing, music, prayer requests, and lots of other things.

Over time I've come to see the site less as an Anime site with a Christian flavor and more as a Christian site with Anime flavor, if that makes any sense!

So I was just curious - what is everyone else's take on it? Why would you spend your time interacting with anonymous people via an inanimate object when you could seemingly live life in seemingly more efficient and/or complete ways? Is it really about the anime?

It's not about the anime, my friend, it's about the lulz. And there is much lulz to be garnered on this site.

While there are many great lulz to be had here, as everdred said, it's more about fellowship. The way I see it, this site is a gathering of people who are Christians and who happen to like anime. To some Christians, anime is the epitome of all evil, and to some anime fans (and other people in general), Christianity is stupid and a load of crap. CAA is a place where it's safe to be a Christian anime fan.

It's also very easy to build friendships here. Not only does everyone have the same beliefs, but we also share the same interests. That makes all of us here have two very big things in common with each other.

As for what CAA means to me personally, it made me feel like I wasn't the only Christian anime fan in existance and it showed me that it's possible to be a Christian and like anime. The people here are great, and it's nice to know that I'll get to hang out with them for eternity.

CAA is much more than the anime to me. XD When I joined three years ago, I had no idea that this website would bring some of the most special people I've known into my life. No forum has ever grabbed my interest as much as CAA has, and while Christianity and anime are a big part of why I love it here, it's certainly not the main reason. There are other Christian sites, other anime sites, and other Christian anime sites out there that simply don't measure up to CAA, the way things are run here, and the people who post here. Clearly, that's my own opinion, but it's what I've observed. XD

That being said, CAA is the only place where I can talk to others about both Christianity and a variety of anime and have them understand it and like it as much as I do. I do have friends who are Christian anime fans offline, but I don't see them too often due to the busyness of college. Really, it's the people that keep me anchored to this site in particular. I mean, I met some of my best friends and my boyfriend on this site. Not a bad deal, if you ask me. XD But yes, CAA has become my "internet home," so to speak, and I felt welcome from day one.

I think this post will do for now, though I may come back and reply to the question about "living life in seemingly more efficient and/or complete ways" later. I have a reply to that, but I think this post is long enough as it is. XD

I'll agree with what Raddie Chan says.

Truthfully, CAA has really kept me sane... In real life I was kinda isolated because of my faith, and made fun of because I like "cartoons."

I never once thought it was a bad thing to like anime, and it's great to know that there are others MY AGE who still feel the same way XD.

I've met a lot of my friends here, some of them who I put a lot of my trust in...call it foolishness, or whatever, but I call it trust. Without them to talk to, I'd probably go a tad insane.

I know it's kinda dangerous to say this, and it's not always the case but I truly believe that sites like CAA have sort of bridged the geologic gap between friendships. I think of a lot of my friends here as "Pen Pals" over the internet. XD

I don't give a lot of personal information out though XD but just enough to get to know others.

CAA really is a great place where I can share everything I love and more. Where I can have intelligent conversations and not just "LOL" replies you know what I mean?

Yeah xD I love it here, I've been here for 3 years and I don't intend to leave.

Well...CAA is one of the last bastions of sanity as far as my internet socializing is concerned. I probably wouldn't have said the same thing a couple of years ago, but at the moment, I'm actually pretty impressed with this place. Sometimes things on here irritate me, but that's life.

I stick around here because there are good people here. I hardly ever talk about anime with anybody here though, because nobody likes the same stuff as me. So for me, it's all about the people.

...And the lulz.

To me, CAA is a place where I can be an openly anti-hentai/anti-yaoi anime/manga fan and not be made fun of or criticized for it.

I agree, CK! This place almost seems like it was actually blessed by God. (Did you actually do that, Ashley?) As for me, the only thing I'll add is that all my life, I've been ridiculed for my disability (even when I didn't know what was wrong with me. I was actually diagnosed as an adult. Imagine having to live your entire life not knowing why you're the way you are!), my faith, my personality (most of which is tied into my Asperger's Disorder. There's a lot of quirks in there that can easily be exploited), and my interests. Here, there's no ridicule or exploitation. We all need a place where we can feel it's ok to be ourselves and be around people who'll appreciate us. That's why I like it here. I've made lots of friends here. And even better, when I exposed my inequities to everyone, it didn't turn anyone away!

I really haven't been here long enough to have a complete sense of what the CAA means to me. I'm not quite sure why I joined in the first place.

I've been apart of other forums both secular and Christian. In the secular forums I found there were a lot of nice people even if they didn't share my belief as a Christian. Though in the Christian forums I've joined I've found them to be hypocritical and "cliquey". I liked what they stood for Christianity-wise but people wise it wasn't the kind of thing I wanted to be associated with.

So, I was a bit skeptical if I would like the CAA at all when I first joined. I've met some genuinely nice people here though and I like how it's not all about anime/manga. I'm sure over time I will have a better reply to this question but as for now what the CAA means to me is what many have stated already: the common ground of belief and anime.

Hopefully, I will never want to leave but only time will tell. ^__^

*now pastes the text he wrote before humor attempt*

Personally I haven't been here long enough to really know anyone or make close friends myself... kinda posted on and off since I joined, as work is keeping me so busy at the moment. I like how great the people here seem to be... the lulz... all the good stuff. The place seems to be more Christian than anywhere else I have been and posted, and I really share the same views as most here do... don't have but one friend(who decided to go to college way across the country... GRRRRR) who likes anime like I do, and is a Christian... so that played a part in me joining as well.

Lulz!Yep!
I'll be honest here. When I joined CAA I felt something different about this place.I left for sometime, and then came back convinced that this site somehow was truly a haven deep within the net.God has truly blessed this site like rocklobster stated earlier. It's filled with unique individuals who with their words have made me laughed, but also have forced me to sit down, and think hard on various issues.Currently it's been a place which God is using to help me to not stray from his path, and get closer to Him.Also,I'm tying to get better in my English, learn how to organize my thought in a coherent manner, and state them clearly in writing.A couple of the members here inspire me to keep it up just by reading their posts or spending time in the chat. The people here are just a great bunch.

I'm not sure I can express a response to this and keep it:
1) Under the post character limits.
2) In few enough characters that people would actually read it.

I try my best to focus people around here on this core mission: CAA is THE place for Christians who like Anime! Of course, it's not my site - It's Ashley's. But she and the rest of the staff tend to agree on a great many things. We have our moments, but that only shows how much the staff here truly cares about what we are doing.

It's really gratifying to see the impact this site has on you guys. :thumb: I'm glad to see we're making a difference.

CAA's just another initialism for nothin' left to lose . . .

: : ahem : :

CAA means never having to say you're sorry . . .

No, that's not it.

Ah, yes! Here we go.

CAA is, like any community, all about the people. If there weren't so many interesting people, I wouldn't bother with the site at all. All of you together are what make CAA worthwhile.

CAA just feels like a safe place to be on the net for me. I've only just joined a couple of weeks ago, but it feels as though I've been here for years. I think it's still too early for me to say I know anyone here really well. I would say, however, that I have quickly aquired the atmosphere of this site and I have liked what I've seen so far.

As for what being a member of CAA means, to me I guess you can say it is a way to learn more about the Christian religion. So I'll list a couple of reasons as to what it means to me other than the fact that it is a forum to mingle with my fellow anime fans that share my religion;

1.)To learn more about theology
2.)To learn different ways of serving God
3.)To learn what animes are good to watch and what isn't as far as religion is concerned

CAA means a lot to me.

I joined back in December, I was googling "Chirstian Anime". And got CAA & Anime Angels.

I joined both.

CAA has been such a blessing to me. It's a place where I can hang out, talk about anime, and have a somewhat sense of security. (Forum/Community wise)

I've been on non-christian anime & none forums, and the community is always on edge. Or people don't have respect for other people.

And the forums aren't always clean content wise.

You guys are great, and it's nice to talk anime & etc with other Christians. :D
