Ramen Shelf Life?

Quick question:
I have some ramen that's in my cabinet and is probably over a year old. Is it safe to eat or should I throw it out? They have 100108 C1L 02:49 printed on them, but I have no idea what that means.
What do you guys think? Is it ok to have ramen for dinner tonight?:sweat:

TBH I hate most Ramen, unless its Beef flavored, to answer your question, it should be okay, but if you don't feel safe about consuming it, then don't do so.

Hmmm... It looks like that ramen either expired January 10th, or doesn't expire untill October 1st. Either way, I'd probably still eat it.

Just make sure there aren't any bugs in it. We had a problem with weevils here and we had to throw away a whole case of the stuff. Check the packaging for any little holes or bur-type residues. It's probably fine, though.

XD Well I know my brother found some ramen that was behind our shelf for like, A YEAR so I think you'll be fine. However, he is also like the human garbage can so hey I guess if you don't feel safe eating it then don't. ^^

What everyone's talking about is an Instant Ramen noodles thing. It's normally(at least in my experience) a package of fried(IIRC) noodles, with a package of seasoning. You boil water, toss the noodles in, cook them and add the seasoning. It's best if you use the chicken one, then add tons of spices.

I was under the impession it took like 3 minutes - but then I'm eating the kind that comes in a styrofoam cup (you pour in the water, and it has a few veggies in it).

Speaking of which, that twinkies comment almost made me spew it all over my computer!

Hey don't question what ramen is made of! Do you eat hot dogs? Do you want to know whats in them? Seriously we as humans created by God should not be picky about what is in the food that He gives us. But sometimes for sanitary sake you might want to look at the ingrediants of the food that you eat, so you can see that there is not poison in it. Otherwise just eat a carrot.

But oh I really could careless whats in food. Wouldn't it be something if you took your whole life to figure out if there are any harmful ingrediants in your favorite dish? And then as soon as you find that there were none, you die.

Oh and if I was a little aggressive in my post, it wasn't personal, I was just on a tiny rant. So Im sorry to you, ShiroiHikari, for my outburst.

Uh, I have to disagree with that. I have to be picky what I eat, because of health reasons.

I'm one that makes stuff homemade then get quick easy to eat meals, because that are not good for me.

Really I try to be health conscious as well, I don't really even eat ramen(I have tasted it and from what I taste it good. The reason I don't eat it is because of the sodium amount.). I just meant that when we are given the basic ingrediants(Like regular vegetables) from God we should not question them unless they are damaged or something(And when that happens just get some other ones of that same kind of food to be used in your dishes.). I was kidding so it was hard for anyone to have seen that from my post.

I love adding stuff to my ramen...but it has to be creamy chicken flavored. I like adding (in this order): a mixed egg (make sure the ramen is hot so it cooks the egg, and don't add anything else until it is cooked...it's like egg-drop ramen! ^_^), teriyaki sauce, a little curry powder, and frozen peas. It's delicious, and the broth ends up becoming not so watery. Although, I'm guessing that also depends on how much water you add. I also like my ramen to be soft (and so does my brother...he'll cook the heck out of the noodles but leave the broth with them. I mostly just microwave my ramen for about five minutes ).

But yeah, that's my take on ramen. Delicious, and I have yet to try the real thing. But hey, if instant is this good (I just don't like the cup kind), then the real stuff has got to be way better.

EDIT: Oh yeah, thanks for reminding me, JediSonic...I do still put the flavor packet in. Actually, I take out a bowl, put the seasoning in, followed by the noodles and some water, and THEN I put it in the microwave for five minutes. And then add the other stuff, blah-blah-blah...yeah.

Just a thought: who here eats their ramen with chopsticks?

When I do cook ramen on the stove, I don't actually use all of the flavoring. I dunno if that would work for you, animedude, but it would mean less sodium

I doubt it myself, oh well. I tried to eat with chop sticks once, but it didn't work because I kept dropping food. Why do they eat with chopsticks, anyway? Is it because they want to keep tradition and culture or something like that?

出前一丁 are the only instant noodles for me. And I eat with chopsticks, mostly because it's my culture.

But using knives, forks, and spoons is way easier than using chopsticks. How do they use chopsticks so well? Are they whipped by their parents untill they get it just right or something? Im just curious.

Well, little kids do adapt and learn pretty fast, and they have "training" chopsticks.

Even instant ramen is awesome when cooked right. I go as far as using a measuring cup to get the water amount perfectly :| Also, don't go for those really cheap ones, go for the better ones that cost good $1+ per package.

In fact, I shall go eat some chapaghetti right now. Which owns so hard.

As for chopsticks, they're very easy, it's like learning how to write. Best and fastest training is probably getting two bowls, one filled with peas (or any other round object) and other empty. Then use chopsticks to move the contents to the empty one, and repeat until comfortable.

I actually find chopsticks faster and easier to eat with for many foods, so its a matter of experience probably. Its also simpler to manufacture a pair of chopsticks than a fork too, so mass production may play a factor.
