What is (or was) on the menu for Easter?

Postby EricTheFred » Sun Mar 23, 2008 4:26 pm

Just finished Easter dinner at our house. I was a busy cook today. The kids are busy washing dishes as I type.

I made:
Roast Lamb
Corn on the cob.
Freshly shelled Green Peas (with sliced water chestnuts)
Acorn Squash
Steamed Zucchini
Broccoli
Fried Rice
Homemade Lemonade

The two different squashes were because I can't eat anything else on this list except those and the lamb (Crohn's disease), so I needed a little variety for myself. I had a little homemade yogurt to go with it. I would have added carrots, but I forgot to buy them yesterday.

How about everyone else? What's for dinner today?
May the Lord bless you and keep you.
May He cause His face to shine upon you.
May He lift up His countenance and grant you peace.

A chicken sandwich from KFC with fries :P.
Originally I was going to grill the whole day but grew tired, so yeah....
Some of my favorite scriptures.

Psalm91
A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;
There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

Hebrews 4-4
1Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.
2For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
3For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
4For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.

James 4
Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.

Revelation 22:14
Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

We had barbecue and desserts out at the property. Good stuff!
"Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

Hmmm. The responses are not at all what I expected. I figured there'd be a couple of lambs, but I figured there'd be a lot more hams.

My family's menu included:
Ham
Slovenian Sausages
Potato Casserole
Sweet Potatoes
Pickled Eggs and Beets

I went to Friend's house and we had ham, bread and various salads.

I never understood how ham became a quintessentially "Easter" meat. Is it so that Christians can thumb their noses at Jews as they celebrate freedom in Christ?

No matter; I enjoyed myself despite my inability to taste anything (is sick T_T)

Heh. Hadn't thought about it that way. Christmas means 'Ham' to a lot of people, too...

For me, Lamb makes a good choice simply because Easter has a Passover connection, and Lamb is the designated main course for Passover. I've served other things some years, though, like a roasting hen, or a brisket (traditional Texas Easter dinner) or yes, a ham. Ham is more common for New Year's, in my house.

It was very nearly duck, this year. I had already bought one, then when I went to get it out of the freezer, I found this boneless leg of lamb I had forgotten about, and decided to go with it, instead. I'll get the duck out once the household leftover supply drops a little.
