DST needs to be taken out into the back yard and shot.
Embraced by a gentle breeze, my heart breaks as I think of you.
All alone at the top of the hill, I watch as the seasons go by.

Wishing for courage softly, I pray.
There's no going back now, to those tender days when you held me in your arms.

For those of us not living in the US -what the heck is Daylight saving time? I never got to see the point.

According to whoever, working time is more efficient when every drop of daylight is used. At certain times of the year, there is more day than night--and vice versa (like in summer, there's more daylight). Therefore, clocks are set back (in Oct.) or put forward (in March) to save some daylight. I think it's kinda pointless now, in my opinion.

Oooh, that sucks. :shake:

By the way, aren't there certain places in the US that don't observe daylight savings? Like Arizona? Or Mountain-time? Or something?

Yeah. Arizona (Except the Navajo Nation) doesn't observe it. Neither does Hawaii.

Meh. What's the big deal? It's just one hour. You'll forget about it by the end of the month.

If people are going to be bent out of shape about it, just go to bed one hour earlier. Problem solved. All is right with the world.

European Union has Summertime period, which begins and ends at 1:00 a.m. Universal Time (Greenwich Mean Time). It begins the last Sunday in March and ends the last Sunday in October. In the EU, all time zones change at the same moment.

So golfers have more daylight to play golf, and that is no joke.

I think they should just set our time to 30 mins a head and leave it at that all year around.

But Benjamin Franklin was the first person to conceived of the idea, but never was used back then.

I tend to wake up at first light. As such, this spring time thing really gets to me. I'm expected to be at work at the same time, but now that's right after the sun comes up. Ouch.

I personally like it when we "fall backward" rather than spring forward. I just wish they'd keep it to ONE way instead of this two-way system. >___<

It's ok to spring forward for summer and such, but do we have to spring forward so early in the morning? I mean.. why not... like at 7.. or noon (j/k about the noon thing.. I guess) :P

/me is not sure how they came up with this (kinda) and why the chose to make the change at 2 in the morning >_<

Odd that we get add an hour of daylight for the time of year that we get the most sunlight. I think it should be the other way around if you ask me.

isnt' that the whole purpose of DLST?

I mean...wasn't it originally designed to save electricity (such as lights) during the time of the year where we have the most daylight....

eh, I guess they wanted to try to please both sides of the spectrum (if there is one). The ones that like to sleep and the ones who like to go out ^ ^ Of course, there's the whole saving electricity thing to :P

Not really. The main reason for daylight saving time was to add daylight to afternoons benefits retailing, sports, and other activities that exploit sunlight after working hours.

Now Franklin's reason for it was due to saving energy use. The US did pass an Act of 1918 for the observance of daylight saving time, but was repealed the following year. It wasn't untill WWII that the US used daylight saving time as electricity saver, but after the war, we didn't use DST. It wasn't untill 1966 that DST was pass under the Uniform Time Act.

But if you think about it, when do you use more electricity? That would be in the winter, when it gets darker earlier. So, would it be better to have DST time in the fall and winter then in the spring and summer?

But as I said before, if they just move the clocks to 30 mins or left it on DST all the time, we would be better off.

No, farmers didn't have anything to do with it. In fact, they have hated DST since it came into play. DST has been controversial over the years and farmers didn't like DST, because it cause problems for farming.

I refuse to acknowledge Daylight Savings Time. But because the rest of California adheres to it and lateness is usually taken as unexcused, my hands are tied.

Fortunately, all my clocks automatically correct themselves.
