Thanks, Gypsy. I forgot to add in my comments section that I'd add Noir as one of my top five picks of new releases, which came out in 2003. ^_^

[size=84][color=seagreen]YOU SEE

You see into the deepest part of me ---

beyond the fog I hide behind.

You cast your light upon the shadows

that stretch like cobwebs in my mind.

You ease the pain when I am hurting,

and morbid visions from my past

pierce into the realm of Reason

as though I danced on blades of glass.

You grant me strength when I have fallen

and, once again, I've lost my way.

You take my hand in Yours and lead me

into the promise of a brand new day.

You bring order to all my chaos,

yet set my well-laid plans awry.

You place me on a firm foundation ---

then give me wings so I can fly.

You sand away my roughened edges

and polish all the dullest parts

until I stand before Your presence...

a newly-sculpted work of art.

You see into the heart within me,

right through my motives and selfish will.

And yet, in spite of all You see

You say You love me even still.

Straylight and I are hashing out a compromise to allow the old links to still work where possible, so this should be fixed one way or another soon.

Great review, Chloe. I've still only seen the first five episodes, and so I just have the basic setup of the series. Why are DVD's so expensive?! Someday I'll get all these great anime...

Excellent review, Chloe. You do a great job explaining the series and leaving the reader interested to see it.

I just finished watching the first volume (first five episodes) and I have to say I'm planning on watching it through to the end. I'm looking forward to seeing the vharacter of Chole make her appearance. You were right about the opening theme song too--I have it running through my head right now, as it has been for the past five hours or so.

Guess what Chloe! I'm getting the rest of Noir tomorrow! DVD's 6 & 7. Finally I can finish the series and it'll be my first Anime Box Set.

Congratulations on getting the last two discs, Volt!!! Tell me what you think of it after you watch the last show. Just remember... the fork.;) And, on the 7th disc you have to watch the four ADV actresses commentary.

I was just checking ebay to see what kind of a deal I could get on the first dvd. And-- dang, couldn't they have put a little more skirt on those girls! My mom gets really bugged by short skirts and busty tops. She'll be shaking her head the whole way home from Best Buy. (I assume they dress the same way in the anime that they do on the cover; set me straight if I'm wrong.)

I'm watching the series one episode a week through my college anime club. It's really good and I'm enjoying it a lot. The only thing I have problems with is that the series is about two female assassins killing people for money, and even though all the people they kill probably deserve it, what they do isn't necessarily legal. In fact it is for this reason that my sister, who's also an anime fan and generally has the same tastes as I do, will not watch the anime at all.

Still, I'm sticking with the series because it has some very interesting themes, one of which may or may not deal with my concern.

"Unwanted kiss"... a very good way of putting it.

Nice review; it does the anime considerable justice. ^^ Just a sidenote...wish you included a short blurb of the Salva Nos BGM in the Music section. I think that piece was really the shining jewel of the whole sountrack. Anyway, I loved how you described Mireille and Kirika's gradual relationship - it's mysterious and vague but something's there and whatever it is, it's definitely intense. Nice job! :thumb:

>>a sidenote...wish you included a short blurb of the Salva Nos BGM in the Music section. <<

I'm sorry, Swordskill. I did forget to mention the beautiful chorale, Salva Nos with the awesome Eurobeat. It's one of my favorites, but when I did the review I couldn't find my soundtrack. *hehe* It does deserve a mention; in fact, I'm listening to it right now. You know what's fun - drive down the freeway with this music in the background and you'll feel your right foot getting just a little heavier on the gas pedal. ^-~ *Hehee*

>>I assume they dress the same way in the anime that they do on the cover; set me straight if I'm wrong.)<<

Well, mangafanatic, your mom might be concerned with Mireille's outfit, but overall, it's the only short skirt outfit. She's a well-proportioned woman, but she's not just there for fan service. Kirika and Chloe, and everyone else, dress appropriately. Please don't look down on the whole anime because of Mireille's love of short skirts and boots. *heh* It actually fits her style. And don't worry, there are no panty shots that I remember.

Thanks for you all reading my review. I really don't want to justify this anime, I just want to let you know I enjoyed watching it. I'm also a big foreign film and artsy film fanatic - so I'm sure that's another reason why I enjoyed it. I like it when I can really think about what I'm watching. It's 15+, and I would honestly have rated it a 13+ because it really hasn't got a lot of what I would consider "bad stuff" in it. Maybe I'm tainted. I mean, I think Halo deserved a T rating and it's an M game. I never understood that, either. Believe me, Ranma 1/2 is more fanservicey than Noir. It's had a lot of disservice by the fan sites, since all the main characters are women.

We all, every day, decide what we will watch and listen to and ultimately it's between us and God as to what we allow in our minds. I enjoyed the conclusion of Noir, and why I ultimately liked the anime was because of the ending. The message of how much Mireille's mom loved her that ultimately her words to Kirika were what saved her daughter. The mom, in her death, actually conquered the verdict of Noir's judgment, by her love. I love those kind of endings. I'm a sucker for happy endings. <-- that might be a spoiler.

Hey!
Thanks for the head's up. Yeah, I was thinking about it and me and my mom are both fans of the Matrix, and if you thnk about it Trinity has her-- Let's get a man with my tight clothes and gunslinging skills.-- outfits. We both like Legally Blonde, and she wears little tiny things. I guess it's pretty much the same thing.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

I like this series a whole lot, nice review. I love the music and the intro goes nicely with kinda artistic setting the series creators were trying to evoke. As for innocent people dying for money -- I know that is wrong but at least the deaths aren't overly violent...

What I do like is that the girls in the show are depicted strongly and none are there for the services of pleasing male consumers. They are all strong characters with considerable layers of depth added.

I also thought the series was well done. The action was really good and the story was well done. I was actually thinking of buying it now that the box set (special collection w/ the narrow dvd cases) can now be bought at bestbuy for $57 for all 7 dvd's. It's not a bad deal... perhaps it's time to invest in it... Anyways, it's totally worth the watch.

Noir's soundtrack is awesome! Although some of the tracks are repeated too frequently within the anime, the pieces themselves are very well done ^_^
