Jobs!

Postby Vainrius » Mon Feb 18, 2008 3:31 pm

I'm just wondering what kind of jobs the people here that God may have called you to or out of self intrest. Tell me about the jobs you have or maybe going to college for or just aspiring to have! Or you could tell me the story of how God showed you what he wanted you to do or become.

I used to want to be a chef (like the retired Anthony Bourdain) for a LONG time. But one day I was cruising around the internet and God said "ONCOLOGY". I didn't know what that was so I pushed it away for awhile until it was brought up agian. I looked it up and saw that it was a cancer doctor and was scared. I didn't know where to begin the list excuses but God didn't want to hear them. He changed my whole mindset and showed me the good-side of doctoring. Well, being doubtful, I began watching House m.d. (for fun) and fell in love with one of the guys. After about a month of obsessing over him I found out what kind of docotr he was and laughed. He's and Oncologist. So being obedient I have been studing on this subject for what seems forever now. I know its going to be difficult going through med school but I know if this is what God wants me to do, I will make it.

Wow, I could never become any kind of doctor. Seems scary to me. hehe

I believe God has called me to pursure a career in animation/ game art and design. I've been writing a story for like a year now that I feel God wants me to turn into an animated TV show or video game or both! haha! But yeah...God has slowly helped me build up the story and the plot and He is pretty much creating it through me. It's so cool!

I don't really know when or how exactly I knew what God wanted me to do with my life, but it just feels right and in line with God's will. His plan also involves talents that I already have so it makes sense.

Isn't it so great when you feel that God has revealed to you what He wants you to do in your life? (wow, that sounded confusing, lol)

Well, my job goal at the moment is Humane officer. This may end up leading somewhere around where I live too. There's so many animal cruelty cases here...but we dont have anyone to report it to because the closest place is out of our jurasdiction (sp?).

I am striving to either go into Mental Therapy or Education.

As for education, I'd like to teach Psychology, English, or Math; most preferably Psychology and/or some field in social sciences.

I have a very long story that I've told many times before involving a massive trial dealing with my writing and interest in anime while I was in China for two months over the summer. What's come out of that is my stories are totally dedicated to God and He has given me direction and ideas.

I suppose God calls you to do something whenever He feels like it, and it's always a calling that involves something we're interested in. It's amazing to see how He can really use anything and everything in this world for His purposes. I think that a lot of prayer and an open heart is needed to hear what God has to say about your life and where He wants you to go next.

This will probably a common answer for this site XD but hey, I guess if it is, it is...

For now I feel that God has called me to use my artistic talen for Him. Right now I feel that I should strive to find a carreer in comics or animation. (yes, it's such a cliche' thing to say for an anime fan, right? But I truly love drawing, and I truly love writing, and I truly love working on my webcomic! ^_^

I also feel that God wants me to attend anime conventions as an artist in the artist alleys so I can reach and witness to those who attend. You don't know how much these kids need us to reach out to them! I am praying that I will be able to go this year! It's something that I really feel that I am called to do. If I get to go to conventions this year, I am going to see if I can get some Bibles to pass out! ^_^/

But I believe that art is something that is a gift that God has given me, and many others, and it's my desire to bring praise to Him through it... And I am going to do just that.

Something I also hav ea slight interest in is Art Education. I think it would be a great way to reach today's youth by simply being a huge part of their lives and teaching them how to be artists themselves. Although I am sure that is a carreer that I will definately need to develop MORE patience. ^_^;

Well, for the longest time I wanted to be a dolphin trainer... They're my favorite animals, and I finally had the chance to swim with them back in 2005. After that, I just knew that working with them was the perfect job for me.

But as I've gotten older, reality has sort of sunk in and I've realized that it probably wouldn't be the smartest thing to do, especially after I'm married and have a family. Taking care of dolphins would require so much of my time that I just wouldn't be able to do it without making a lot of compromises in my personal life.

(So, that's why I simply need to find and marry a guy who trains dolphins. XD Then I'll be able to take care of my family at home and be a Proverbs 31 kind of gal, while also having the opportunity to spend time with my favorite animals!)

Another thing that I would enjoy doing on the side is making some money off of my artwork. I know it sounds like a hopeless idea, with all of the people planning to do exactly the same thing, but my mom really thinks that I should check into painting murals. I know a lady who got $500 per wall to paint a single room, and it didn't take her long to do at all. I've already painted a door for one of my neighbors (and it actually turned out well) and have also been asked to paint two walls, so I might have something going for me. XD I hope so!

Postby Rev. Doc » Tue Feb 19, 2008 6:54 am

As a high school student I always knew I wanted to do something to help people. Naturally, professions like doctor would automatically come to mind. To be honest, my grades during that period of my life would never allow me to enter any type of medical profession. Therefore, I drifted for several years going from job to job.

When I was saved, I began to notice God bringing many things together in my life. A desire to draw closer to Him, the need to share the gospel, an excitement in proclaiming God's word and that ever present desire to help people. With the encouragement and edification of many around me I surrendered to God to enter into a pastoral ministry.

I had the opportunity to enter a liberal arts college in North Carolina (a miracle in itself considering my high school transcript and the fact that it was a private college, but God supplied) and go on from there to seminary. I have been blessed being involved in a number of different ministries including mission work. But, my greatest joy has been my current pastorate where I have been for the past 10 years. Though small, the people are loving, I can exercise my gifts throughout the community and I still get to be involved in international mission work.

I have a feeling I'll end up in mental therapy, too, but not on the supply side.

I have a Bachelor's of Science degree in Computer Science. My joy at work comes from pouring through and writing computer programs, although I don't get to do it very much.

The high-tech and engineering fields are a tremendous mission field. The influence of God in the average tech industry employee is growing ever smaller as Science and Religion are being increasingly seen as being at odds with each other.

My point is that God does not only call people to jobs that directly help others like missionaries, preachers, and doctors. I say that not because that is what is being broadcast here, but when I was a teenager, that was pretty much what I was taught. I knew I was certainly not the type of person who would make a good missionary or public speaker, so I wandered aimlessly trying to figure out what to do. My first major in college was Education and I considered attending a Christian University to study ministry, but none of that appealed to me. I work much better on a one-to-one level and I have a good mind for problem-solving, so the tech field is a great fit for me.

I have had numerous opportunities to share the gospel and every day I am a witness of Christ even though I am not in Zimbabwe or curing illness. So, if you are not a great people person, know that there is still a calling for you. God does not call us all to reach out to millions or even hundreds. Some of us are simply called to reach out to the dozens we encounter every day at work and school.

Ever since I was little, I've been sure I wanted to dance professionally. I was even introduced to ballet by a Christian company. But then I started losing my passion, thinking I wasn't good enough. I got frustrated with not having chances to use my choreography. Between that and having knee problems I stopped dancing for over two years. But God had a plan for me and He wouldn't let me forget it, so now I'm at school for dance again. And I'm choreographing a music video for a friend who's a film major! I don't really know where I'm going with my dancing, but I'm trying to let God lead me.

One thing that I would eventually like to do is become a dance professor at a Christian college. There are very few Christian schools that offer dance, and that's very disappointing. I'd love to help give Christian dancers the ability to use their art for God.

The way I see it is that your career choice coming out of self interest and your skills and abilities, is the career choice the Lord wants for you. The Christian book I've read called "The Purpose Driven Life" by Rick Warren, explains that "God made you the way you are and special mechanized you for who you are". So I feel that because being right-brained oriented is so natural for me, God made me as an artist.

Also because I'm not too picky about the type of art, I have chosen my career to be in the fashion industry or a sewing career. My career choice derived from my cosplay hobby and therefore sewing and costume construction became my hobby since 2004. That was before I came back to God, but it's as they say, "What's done is done" and that has happened.

I understand some parts of the fashion industry can get pretty ugly (the high competition turning into greed, etc.), but I'm positive that I can also use my sewing abilities maybe in a church? Also sometimes ministers and priests have different robes so maybe I can use my career choice (sewing, fashion, costume construction, etc.) to be a seamstress in the church for the Lord :)? I hope that makes sense ^__^.

But anyways the career of my choice and my college major has been in the field of fashion and Theatre Technical for the past 3 years and that hasn't change ;). Therefore that is what I'm aspiring to be ^^.

I'm planning on working as a designer and artist, in a design studio or entertainment company. What's interesting for me is how my other jobs, such as customer service, and bookstore work my influence that.

I keep two and a half jobs (if there is such a thing) and am also a 'part time' college student. My major is in music education. I have always had a passion to share my talents with others and to teach them a love for music that I believe everyone should have in their lives. It's very therapeutic as well as constructive much like the other jobs I hold.

When I achieve my degree I will most likely have to chose between my other interests but in the meantime I try to maintain all of my favorite pastimes. I work as an assistant to our pastry chef within a bakery as well as a seamstress for a local dinner theatre where I live. I also DJ at parties/certain clubs in my area. I love these jobs whole-heartedly and I cannot really imagine myself 'quitting' either of these jobs though I know at some point I will have to give something up in order to pursue other dreams and goals I have.

I suppose all my life God has given me this passion to create so that what I cannot express at times through words or even emotions (God knows it's hard to be empathetic toward an angry client!) I can convey in some small or significant way to show others how I feel.

So, I choose jobs like helping to cultivate culinary sweets, playing an awesome mix of songs, and sewing beautiful costumes in order to not only please God but also myself. I love to see the looks on others faces when they enjoy what I made for them or when they thank me for showing them how to play this or that.

There are many people in my life who think I am crazy to keep such a busy schedule, that I shouldn't be so wishy-washy and concentrate on one, solitary thing but why would God create this huge, wonderful world, full of thousands upon thousands of possibilities if all we ever did was one tired task on a daily basis (not to say that most of the population doesn't already do this... ^__~) It only makes me strive harder in my work and I wouldn't give it up for the world. :)

I am currently an Animal Science major and am nearing the end of my college years (1 more year). I would like to work with wildlife in some aspect--animals are definitely one of my passions.

But I'll take whatever job I can coming out of college, even if it turns out not to be what I was hoping for. I know God can use me wherever I wind up.
"Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

I have just finished work experience doing software engineering at a mining-related software/hardware company. I did quite enjoy it, and they even offered me a position there after I graduate from uni at the end of the year! I definitely believe God has provided this opportunity for me.

And I agree with termyt.

I have also done very part time tutoring of maths/physics/computer science throughout the year, which I enjoy also.
Everywhere like such as, and MOES.
