What to do for her...(question and prayer)

Postby Momo-P » Wed Feb 20, 2008 9:18 am

Recently I've encountered a girl with many troubles. She believes in God, but thanks to her job (psychiatrist related stuff) she's beginning to doubt. In order to fufill her dream, she needs to learn about the brain--how it works inside and out. Problem? It's making her feel like there's no room for a soul anymore. That everything is just our brain. She also mentioned how the brain registers faith in God just as real as something that's physically real, and that bothers her as well.

I tried explaining that the faith thing doesn't mean anything bad. All it does is prove how being a Christian is based on faith, something we already know.

Still though, she can't help it. She's admitted she was never a super Christian before, but she also admits she doesn't want to leave Christ. Apparently she's been reading her Bible lately, praying, and continuing to seek out answers. As she put it, everytime she sees something amazing anymore, all she can think is that there's another "more logical" explanation for her.

In short, she really needs prayer. Doesn't help she's got some people telling her "well what's more logical? Believeing in God coming from nowhere and creating this, or everything coming from nowhere without a creator?" Granted it's something she's probably thought about, but the way that person worded it was very...not right. It came off like choosing to be an atheist was an ok thing and I didn't appreciate it. Especially when that person also happens to be a Christian, so they should know what they should be telling her (and it should be stuff that makes her believe Christ).

So ya, that's my issue. If anyone has anything I could possibly tell her, that'd be nice. Also a mini question to go with it, I believe I already know the answer, but I forgot what it was. ^^;

Why doesn't God just show Himself to mankind? I know part of it is to give us faith, but still, if He loves us so much, you'd think He'd just do it anyways. More people would definitely believe if they knew He was there for a fact. Errr...and I don't mean anything bad by this. I'm not doubting God, I actually feel very close to Him still, I just got it this in my head and I can't remember what the answer to it all is. ^^;

Well about your question I believe that GOD doesn't show Himself to man kind so that people that believe in HIM are heartfelt people who trust in what they don't see...oh how can I put this?...man you made me forget the answer as well along with the faith part. I'll try to ask my preacher this sunday. I also pray for your friend to see that all that Science and Phychiatry do is prove God even more, till now I haven't found anything that they have found that can dismiss God. I also like the saying that really makes you think, not that its right to say it to her, you decide. It says "If you don't believe in God, you better be right." ---I think it has quite a powerful message. Any ways, hope to have been of some help.
GOD BLESS YOU!!!

God Bless you dear and you will be in my prayers! I'm very sorry to hear this. Yeah from what you described, it does sound like what your friend said was very athiest like. I think I do agree with 12praiseGOD: science and all this psychiatry stuff just proves God even more. That may not sound right at first, but it's just something I've always agreed with.

I'm not very sure what I would say to your friend though because every time I try to explain God to some of my Athiest friends, my debates would always fail. But that's probably due to the fact that I've always had a hard time understanding the way Athiests think.

Either way your friend will most definetly be in my prayers :angel:.

I have seen this line of thinking a lot, especially once you get to college and people start to talk about this more. Well, perhaps God is a logical being. He made the world "good" and doesn't really need to directly mess with it very much. That God interacts with the world through other instruments of His creation (us) is no real surprise.

Seeing God in the world requires a mental shift wherein you go through your day with the expectation of seeing His work. These things can, of course, be dismissed negatively as coincidence. But they will add up. On a more metaphysical note, God is a multidimensional being. You might have to nurture that communication link (prayer) quite a bit before you can easily perceive Him more directly. Or else a catalyst might be involved. Actually, the instances in the Bible where God interacts with a person without using some other mediary (burning bush, various messengers, vision) are very rare indeed.

Science also likes to try to explain the miracles of the Bible by using normal explanations. That doesn't mean it isn't a miracle. It might be a normal occurrence with miraculous timing.

Remind this person that, psychologically speaking, walking around in a state mindful of God's presence, prayer, reading the bible, etc., are all great stress reduction and depression relieving activities. And it doesn't matter why.
