The "explain it for me" thread

Postby GrubbTheFragger » Sat Feb 16, 2008 10:50 pm

Ok so i decided after watching Donnie Darko that it would be a good idea for CAA to have a thread where any confused movie or show watchers can go and ask about theories (besides lost theories those already have a massive thread for themselves XD) on shows and or movie they where confused about.

"Why are you wearing that silly man suit?" Donnie Darko is probably one of the most confusing movies I've seen, XD.

So I guess my question is why a bunny? That is the scariest bunny I've ever seen. Is there a reason why it's a bunny?

Lol... Donnie Darko used to be my favorite movie way back when. I literally watched it for weeks on end. I saw the directors cut and aside from one or two scenes, the regular version was better. My memory is a little rusty but I would have called myself an expert on this movie at one time =P Haven't seen it in years though.

I don't know if there was any real reason why a rabbit I just thought the director was inspired by Harvey (Old Jimmy Stewart movie who talks to an imaginary 6ft bunny rabbit) and maybe to some extent Alice in Wonderland (both rabbits talk about the time).

Anyway, this is a good thread. I like a lot of movies like this IF there is ACTUALLY an explanation that makes sense if you watch it a few times or really look at the details. If it just TRIES to be weird for the sake of weird and makes no sense no matter how hard they try to explain it, it's still garbage IMO.

One of my favorite movies like this was Stay with Ewan McGreggor and Naomie Watts. The answer is a lot more simpler than DD and you don't need to call a geek squad to figure it out. Just watch it again and it makes perfect sense the second time.

Also because bunny suits are incredibly innocent and harmless looking, so when they're altered, they're creepy as anything.

Donnie Darko was a good movie but a bit too unsettling for me.

It's a hard one to recommend. Usually anyone who picks it up picks it up out of curiosity to see what the fuss is about. I don't know anyone I'd recommend it to cause its just so "out there". But if you're curious... pick up that red pill and find out how far the rabbit hole goes :P I don't know if the old Donnie Darko website is still up but if it is you can check that out, it gives you a little taste of what the movies like. I think at the end of the "rabbit trail" so to speak though there are some MASSIVE spoilers.

To keep things on topic so this doesn't turn into the DD thread... anyone seen the movie "Pi"? Thats a movie I really liked, only saw it once a long time ago though and never looked it up to figure out what exactly happened. Should rent it again I guess.

Another thing about the bunny suit--the class watches/reads Watership Down (I also don't remember if it's in the Director's Cut only or not), a story about rabbits who make their own destiny. It's also quite violent.

I'm trying to remember...Did I watch Pi? It's a black and white movie, right?

Director's cut... I actually forgot about that. Watership Down also deals with a Deus Ex Machina at the end as well. Actually, there were quite a few similarities between Watership Down and DD if I remember correctly.

As for Pi, yes it was black and white. I really don't remember much aside from some genius trying to find a certain numeral pattern which holds the key to understanding everything in the universe. There was something about predicting the stock market and something hidden in Jewish religious text but I really don't remember it much. It just gets really weird at the end.

I only started paying attention at the end. By then I was totally shocked because
