Postby jon_jinn » Thu Jan 31, 2008 6:34 pm

who else is looking forward to the upcoming release of the movie, Jumper. the director also did Mr. and Mrs. Smith, and the Bourne trilogy. the plot concept of the series seems fairly entertaining.

Aww, you beat me to making the thread!

It looked interesting on TV, but when I watched the trailer, I kinda lost interest. It reminded me of Nightcrawler from X-Men.

Looks like there's a "Star Wars" reunion in it too, hehe.

There's no doubt in my mind that Samuel L. Jackson will be wonderful (and he has proven to be just as good playing bad guys as good guys), but I'm rather apprehensive about Hayden Christiansen playing the lead role. He had a grand total of one well-acted scene in Star Wars, which is the only thing I've ever seen him in.

The premise is one of those 50-50 things: it could be really awesome, it could be really lame.

So, I think I'll probably wait to hear some reviews of this, then decide whether I want to see it or not.

Apparently Hayden is a good actor (just not in anything Star Wars-y).

My sentiments exactly. I'd love for this to be a good movie, but I'm afraid it'll just be another lame special-effects-are-all-we-know-how-to-do show. I'll wait for more reviews to come out before I decide to fork out $8 for a mantinee.

I read an interview with the director in Discover Magazine. He said that he tried to make the science in it as plausible as possible. For example one instance he gave was the use of gravity when someone jumps into a free fall gravity is still in effect. He also indicated that when a person jumps it's like opening a door and stepping dimensions to get from one place to another.

I saw Jumper today. It was ok-ish action wise (not extremely great, but moderate), but it had profanity (one f-bomb and some occasional others, including God's name in vain) and, well, a bit of sexual content in it. The action and special effects were good, but the plot was "jumping" a lot (as in you get confused because there seems to be skipped parts, and you have to figure out what's going on or who's who at a fast pace. Also, like in a lot of action movies nowadays, it's hard to tell what is going on because of the "flash-fighting", as in camera darts and stuff).

Overall, it was average. I think the book may be better (yes, it's a movie made off of a book).

i, too, saw the movie today. since i'd read many reviews for the movie, i went to the movie not expecting to be impressed. and that's exactly what happened. i was NOT impressed at all. the movie was downright lame. the graphics were pretty good, but characterization and plot were both quite weak. the movie, itself, was unusually short and ended pretty horribly...

Okay. Don't think I'm going to see this, then. Not a big loss, either; I wasn't insanely excited about it or anything.

Yeh, save your money. I was kinda bummed about it in the end, because the general concepts had potential....Oh well.

That's too bad. It wasn't likely that I would see the movie in any case, but after reading some about it I was mildly interested. My initial assumption was that it would be about le parkour, but upon learning the actual plot I thought it had potential.
