That is a sad story.....I'd say, however, that God did show a way by having that security guy there.....
I will pray for the families involved....they need it now more then ever....

No. No place is sacred anymore. You should always be aware of your surroundings when out in public.

I know that, what I meant was is there no more reverence for God's house?

Apparently the answer is no, there is no more reverence.

There has always been people who have no reverence for God's house, even into biblical times. I don't see why this new occurance is suddenly any different.

Tragic, yes -- but hardly anything new.
Embraced by a gentle breeze, my heart breaks as I think of you.
All alone at the top of the hill, I watch as the seasons go by.

Wishing for courage softly, I pray.
There's no going back now, to those tender days when you held me in your arms.

Yes, I saw. The security guard was a women who used her own gun. She's not a law enforcement officer. I wonder if she was in the armed forces.

It seems the gunman was an ex-student that did not complete his training at the missionary training school connected to the church:

No, it wasn't against anyone in particular, but it wasn't totally random, either:

My deepest heartfelt prayers are with the victims. While we are not to live in fear, we should realize that persecution can happen to any of us, at any time. Pray that the Lord will keep us all strong.
Beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity.

There was a guy on my DTS that some of us were afraid would do something rash... Like, every week... He'd descend into these dark angry moments, and he ended up getting sent home right before outreach (just like this guy)

In the next school, which he did, someone gave him a sword. He would obsess over the sword and spend every night cleaning it... Nothing ended up happening, but he went into the millitary and came back (understandably) more disturbed because he was required to kill people...

Thing is, I considered this guy my friend, even if I got scared when he'd be at his dark moments...

And I have a very close friend right now who has a violent hatred for some of my other friends, due to some stupid and wrong things they'd done... I know he won't ever hurt me, but he actually tells me the only reason he hasn't done anything to these other people is because he promised he wouldn't.

I am praying for him to be reconciled with those people, because I don't want to see my friends fighting, but at the same time because I'm afraid the terms of his promise may have a loophole. At the same time, I'm praying that he can get over this anger...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evcNPfZlrZs Watch this movie なう。 It's legal, free... And it's more than its premise. It's not saying Fast Food is good food. Just watch it.

I find it interesting that seemingly all of these troubled youths who want to kill people - from Columbine to Virginia Tech to this latest incident - all of them were not merely non-Christian secularists, but where also very much anti-Christian.

If all of these attempted (and successful) murderers were Christians, can you imagine the big deal that the media would be making out of it? And yet, anti-Christians - in spite of how it is seemingly always their statistically tiny group who have members committing attempted murders of innocent people at least partly for reasons of religious intolerance - never take any flak for it.

I wonder when the media will finally take notice of the trend, and ask if anti-Christians can clean up their act?

To me, one of the principle lessons of Columbine and Virginia Tech is that if a teenager lacks God in their life, there's a greater chance of them being a threat, to be brutally frank.

This was not "persecution", nor was it the result of some supposed Godlessness or whatever. What happened was the action of a mentally deranged man; nothing else should be read into this. Like far too many other shootings whether at schools or workplaces or malls or anywhere else, it was the derangement of the killer that mattered and not the incidentals of place or target. Unfortunately, politically convenient explanations for what happened will in the end be the dominant theme.
The scientific method," Thomas Henry Huxley once wrote, "is nothing but the normal working of the human mind." That is to say, when the mind is working; that is to say further, when it is engaged in corrrecting its mistakes. Taking this point of view, we may conclude that science is not physics, biology, or chemistry—is not even a "subject"—but a moral imperative drawn from a larger narrative whose purpose is to give perspective, balance, and humility to learning.

The irony of this statement was that it is quite possible that this man called himself christian, having attended the missions school at the church there, before being expelled due to "health concerns".

"Have you or someone you know been seriously injured or killed? BLAME THE GAME! Mr. Thompson can get you the money you deserve from the evil video game companies, who are no doubt responsible for virtually everything that goes wrong!"

What I find really sad was the shooter's statement about him and everyone else being his own God. I honestly pray for the fact that he will now have to meet that certain God.

The philosophy that he clearly endorsed in making this attack on the church was obviously anti-Christian, though.

This is also the case with the Columbine and Virginia Tech shootings. Vehemently anti-Christian attitudes in the hearts and minds of the shooters is a constant theme. The group of people who hold such vehemently anti-Christian attitudes is thankfully statistically small, and hence the fact that people from this group keep on being church/school shooters is something that ought to at least be looked into and seriously considered in searching for ways to solve this growing problem of church/school shootings.

There's no question all of the shooters are at least somewhat mentally deranged, but mental issues alone usually don't make people killers - it helps, I would think, to have a burning irrational hatred of a particular target, and this is where vehemently anti-Christian attitudes come into play. I think that it would be wise for Christians and non-Christians alike to start discouraging these attitudes that are frequently proving to be dangerous - dangerous to Christians, at least.

To blame this on video games, though, is silly. Most teenagers and young adults, I dare say, play video games, at least from time-to-time.

This is sad and scary.

In my opinion, to say that this ISN"T against God and is simply "Mental derangement" is to miss alot of what may have caused it.

Obviously, this kid in his own mind got burned from the church for being introvert or whatever. Not saying it was true, but it something happened in his own mind. He obviously was in pain and searching anyways. So the thing is to also note, that Satan used this guy mightily and because he got burned, he couldn't mentally or emotionally take it, because he probably had some mental problems to begin with.

So if you take previous mental problems + anger at hypocripsy + anger at God + depression + whatever else = what you have.

This kid was still human. And still loved by God. We need to remember that it isn't just the kids with so called health issues or derangement that are capable. To be quite frank every single one of us, given the right situation, state of mind and perhaps motive, are capable of killing. If you don't think you are, then in my opinion you are setting yourself up above everyone.

I think that there is a movement goin on in this world more than ever against the Christian community. Some losing their jobs for "religious intolerance", I don't know about you but I got a lot of beef being a Christian in school and after that.

This world is not sacred, we are not sacred to others and our place of worship to our God is not sacred either. But we also have to realize the huge responsibility we have as Christians for the people that are not. We, in many cases, are the light bearers and it is through seeing us that we can plant the seeds for Christ. So we need to wake up! At least this was an awesome wake up call for me.

Sorry for the rambling but this hit home for me. Again this is only my opinion so I hope no one will be offended whether they agree or disagree with me ^_^

I agree with you. It's usually a combination of factors involved in church/school shootings like this, and I find that anger at God and/or Christianity is a factor that keeps popping up.

In fairness, perhaps the church in this story could have treated the young man better to help prevent him from turning into such a nasty person, but still... I find that anti-Christian bigotry is the one type of bigotry in our society that people can get away with. It's time for that to stop.
