dressed pets?

Postby 12praiseGOD » Sat Nov 24, 2007 5:40 pm

hey guys just wanting to know if any of you like to dress your pets in these winter months. I don't really dress my pets, because my pet is a cat, and when I put its sweater it draggs its belly to the ground and acts like a doll in the sence of motionless...gulf...I know its sad:red:, but its hillarious:lol:
I also dress my neighbors dog with so many clothes she looks so cute, and doesn't like to go out in the cold weather otherwise. Hope to hear some coments

I personally find putting household pets in clothing to be a form of animal cruelty. :p

*angry mob promptly escorts Nate to the exit* Of course they love it! They adore it! Who wouldn't love being forced into kawaii four-legged fashion accessories?! My cat has a bad history of dress-up mishaps though. Let's see... the last pet shirt I got her I had to cut her out of with a pair of scissors because it wouldn't come off and she was laying on the floor in comatose state. Then there was the Frankenstein halloween hat that lasted like a day before she tore it to shreds. Unfortunately my dog is too big to dress up.

Oh yeah, I also used to dress my rodents up. Putting socks on a guinea pig's head makes nail clipping easier... and it looks rather cute.

I dress up my minin schnauzer because when she gets a hair cut her fur is short and if I didn't she would freeze. but it looks cute. I have nothing against putting cloths on animals, but if they don't like it, then they basically let you know. by trying to take it off.
Footprints in the sand by Carolyn Joyce Carty

One night a man had a dream. He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the lord.

Across the sky flashed scenes from his life. For each scene he noticed two sets of foot prints in the sand: one belonging to him the other to the lord.

When the last scene of his life flashed before him, he looked back at the foot prints in the sand.

He noticed that name times along the path of his life there was only one set o footprints.

He also noticed that it was at the lowest and saddest times of his life.

This really bothered him and he questioned the lord about it:

"lord, you said once i decided to follow you, you'd walk with me all the way. But i have noticed during the most troublesome times in my life, there is only one set of foot prints. I dont understand why when i needed you most you would leave me."

The lord replied:

"My son, my precious child, I love you and would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that i carried you."

we have to dress up our dogs in the winter since they are all chihuahua mixes, and since it snows here...going outside to go potty...might be a tad bit uncomfortable without sweaters/coats/etc.

I find it cute, but I really don't see any reason to put clothes on animals. They've already got fur and all... Just me I guess. :eyeroll:

bakura fan has a point. In cold weather pets with shorter hair do need to have some sort of sweater to help keep them warm outside.Except for that I think that dressing up animals just for the fun of it is a bit weirdly stupid and silly.Plus the animals generally think their people have gone bonkers.:eyeroll:

I've been thinking of making/buying a sweater for Pebbles since it's gotten pretty cold here. I sometimes wonder if she's cold outside, but she's good at hiding things...
What do you guys think? Should I get a sweater for my service dog? She already has shoes to protect her feet from the cold.

I don't think dogs ever really "need" sweaters for cold (little dogs from warmer climates like Bakura's might), since they have thick coats and they don't really get as cold as we do. But then again, if Pebbles (excuse me while I squeal "KAWAAAII" at that name XD) is out in the snow/cold a lot it couldn't hurt. And they look so trendy too!

Quoted because I really agree with this statement.

The thought has occured to me to dress Pocky (the name of my cat ^^;) in a cute outfit.

but you know...she really is a tomboy at heart and she would probably freak out.

Plus her coat is already so colorful if I tried to put an outfit on her, it woudl clash with some color on her coat. And it wouldn't look as cute.

But she has a totally awesome collar that matches pretty good!

Why cover up a totally great birthday suit that God gave her?

This line has potential out of context. :p

By the way, animals' coats grow thicker in winter to help protect against the cold. Why do you think they shed so much in the spring? So there's no need to dress them. Nature already took care of that part.

It depends on what kind of pet you have. Some cats and dogs have more hair than others.Certianly if you own,say a Persian, than it would be rather ridiculous to try to dress her up.On the other hand if you own
a Mexican Hairless then you had better.
Though if the climate keeps warming according to Algore we should be buying sun block for our pets instead.

Well I think you should do the test, if you take your dog outside on a particurally cold day and you see her shaking or her legs trembling, then yes, put a coat or something to keep her warm.

Now Nate and you guys have a point, GOD already gave them a fur coat, but sometimes us humans tend to take them out of their havitats, huskies in 90 degree weather all year, mexican hairless in ohio, etc, we also at times give them "cute breed hair cuts" that weren't exactly intended to be and we end up freezing their little booties off. lol  so if we own one of these animals I think the least we can do is warm them up a bit ya know?

I doubt that booties on dog paws are helpful. For one thing dogs sweat through their paws so having booties on kind of defeats the entire purpose of their paws. For another reason their wolf and coyote cousins get along quite well in Winter without any human booties on them.

Since Pebbles is a service dog and is out and about with me everywhere, I put shoes on her feet when 1) the blacktop is really hot so she doesn't burn her feet (It gets REALLY hot here in Texas)
2) when there is ice on the ground so her paws don't get cut.
Otherwise, she doesn't wear shoes.

Most pet dogs don't need shoes as they stay mostly indoors/on grass. But Pebbles does depending on the weather since she walks on a lot of pavement.

None for ours. My dog has teared up any clothes my brother attempted to put on him.

Although we have harnesses connected to leashes for our rats if that counts. XD
