Anime Floats in Thanksgiving Parade?

Postby KhakiBlueSocks » Fri Nov 23, 2007 2:22 am

Okay, I only caught bits and pieces of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, and from what I saw, they didn't have any anime floats, save for Pikachu.

I was wondering if anyone else saw any anime floats that I missed?

I only watched half but ya there was only pikacu (which barely counts as an anime as it's been sooo americanised lol)
It's basically because they only do what is most popular, and while anime had a huge following it's not really a household word just yet

Although it isn't really anime, the icon was made in Japan for the youngsters. And that icon was "Hello Kitty".

Is there something in particular that would cause you to expect anime floats in a high profile, main stream parade?

I can't really imagine a giant Inu-yasha float. D: D: Can you? Or a giant Gundam. XD Or a giant Sailor Moon float.

But yeah, there was Hello Kitty.

Well seeing that people wear Hello Kitty stuff without even knowing the origins of it. It's thrown around a lot these days. XD

As always, I sat and watched the entire parade just to see the Pikachu balloon. XD; My mom was rolling her eyes the entire time because I was more excited about it than my five year-old brother. (But it lights up, so it's automatically cooler than all of the other ones. ♥) Hello Kitty was a nice addition this year, too!

While it'd be nice if there were other anime floats in the parade, I just... can't see that happening anytime soon. There's no telling how many people that would confuse!

I think that they should have an anime parade in Japan that would be broadcasted everywhere. That would be terribly awesome!

Pikacu and Hello Kitty are the only two that were in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

To tell you the turth, I never never seen an anime theme float in Japan, other then Pikacu and Hello Kitty.

Now really, they should have at least had a Transfomers float because not only is it among some of childrens favorite toys and anime but there was also a really awesome movie of it in theatres. And just so we are clear the origins of Transformers was Japan, just in case anyone is wondering.(Doubt it, but you never know.)

It was indeed awesome. Though Optimus Prime dying was pretty sad. Of course, they brought him back later on in the show, but at the time, it was heavy stuff for a cartoon.

Of course, you weren't even born when this awesome movie was in theaters, but it's still available on DVD. :p

I think he was talking about the movie that just came out,
which by the way was a awsome movie.

I understand Pokemon is illegal now in Saudi Arabia because it promotes
'Zionism'(the card game version of Pokemon).

I think they had Pickachu in the parade last year as well. When will they ever have a giant balloon of my personal favorite pokemon character:
Officer Jenny?
About the time they have a giant balloon entry for Wedding Peach I bet!

Not really anime, but there was a Puffy AmiYumi float a few years back (with the dynamic duo themselves riding on top!)

Wait, an awesome Transformers movie just came out? Seriously?

Huh. I guess that crappy one by Michael Bay overshadowed it...

Ha, and what about DBZ. I think every young boy(And girl who like the show) would love to see a giant-sized Goku about to through a spirit bomb at someone! I mean DB, DBZ, and DBGT were good shows, and they dominated many of Bandai's toys, so why not? DBZ toys have even appeared at Burger King a while back. So if Pokemon can get BK toys than surely DBZ should get a float.

Why not? We already have a furball rodent in the parade already. To be truthful I thought Mokona was male, but oh well you learn something new everyday.
