Quick survey for Psych project

Postby Jeikobu » Thu Nov 15, 2007 1:31 pm

Hi all, I have a Psychology research project that's due very soon, and I'm doing a small survey to collect data. Could as many as possible participate? You're free to pass if you want. The project is on dreams. Here are the questions I came up with:

1. On average, how often do you remember your dreams from the previous night?

2. How often are they about things that happened the previous day?

3. The previous week?

4. Have you ever dreamed something and had it come true?

5. Do you feel like you've prophesied in a dream and just don't remember it? (maybe you experienced deja vu at a time and felt it was dream-related)

Thanks a lot! ^^

1. Probably nine out of ten. ^^; My dreams really stick with me.

2. Ahhh...five out of ten.

3. Probably more. Things that have been swimming in my mind for days usually have a better chance of cropping up. I'd say seven out of ten.

4. Not that I remember. XD

5. Nope, not at all. Though that would be awesome. ^^

1. Roughly one night a week.

2. One in four.

3. One in four. There doesn't seem to be any difference between issues that have happened over a week or more and those that occurred just recently, so long as they were significant in my mind.

4. Other than mundane events, no.

5. "Prophecy" defined as "foretell the future"? No.

1. Very rarely, though this week its been 2/3 times. But what I remember are usually snippets of bad &/or weird dreams.

2. Verily often, I guess

3. No

4. Sometimes, had more deja vu dream things.

5. Prophesied no, people did or said things and it happened months or years later. Only had this 2/3 times though.

1. I remember a whole dream sometimes. Maybe two or three times a week. Though I do remember certain parts of a dream almost every day.

2. Usually. My dreams tend to take a lot of certain things that happened the day before and blur them in somehow.

3. Rarely if ever.

4. Yes. As crazy as it sounds, I don't remember the dream until that certain even comes around. Out of the blue, "I remember dreaming about this".

5. I've never prophesied in a dream. Though, like stated above, deja vu happens alot.

1. About five to six times a week. Sometimes every night for weeks at a time, just depending.

2. At least once or twice a week. Ocasionally, I'll dream things about the next day [aka, school, work, etc...] but they're rarely ever true events.

3. No, usually just one day past or in advance.

4. Yes, and quite often. It makes me feel insane, so I usually equate it to deja vu, and try to ignore it.

5. I'm not sure, however, again, the deja vu happens A LOT.

1. Lasting impressions are rare, details are usually forgotten within minutes to hours of waking. I find I'm more likely to remember a dream if I've had a great deal of mental stimulation (ie. excitement, deep thought) just prior to sleep. And since I don't get a lot of that...not often. Maybe one every few weeks?

2. Very often.

3. Very often. Dreams frequently involve a mix of information and/or discussed topics from the past couple days/weeks.

4. Nope.

5. Nada.

1. Not often, but I do sometimes remember my dreams if they make an impression on me.

2. Hardly, it may happen once in a blue moon.

3. Super rare.

4. Why yes, sometimes I dream about the school year to come before I go back to school and oddly enough it has the teacher that was in my dream the nights before.(And I would not even know what the teacher looked like either.)

5. I don't really remember prophesying anything, but I would get that Deja vu feeling alot.

1. On average, how often do you remember your dreams from the previous night?
Fairly often. Not usually the entire dream, but fragments are common enough.

2. How often are they about things that happened the previous day?
Never.

3. The previous week?
Never again.

4. Have you ever dreamed something and had it come true?
Little bits and pieces now and then. Usually the memory of it is triggered by a voice or if I'm looking at something a certain way. I get deja vu a lot.

5. Do you feel like you've prophesied in a dream and just don't remember it?
I don't think so.

1. On average, how often do you remember your dreams from the previous night?
Rarely. Maybe once every one or two weeks or so -- usually I remember the things that happen RIGHT before I wake up.

2. How often are they about things that happened the previous day?
Sometimes they're loosely associated with things that happened (IE the last dream I remember, I had read a friend's Livejournal the day before and dreamt about being in that friend's room), but never a recap or anything like that.

3. The previous week?
Same as #2.

4. Have you ever dreamed something and had it come true?
Never, as far as I can remember.

5. Do you feel like you've prophesied in a dream and just don't remember it? (maybe you experienced deja vu at a time and felt it was dream-related)
I often have feelings of deja vu, but I've never related those to things that happen in dreams I don't remember.

1: 3 / 10

2: 3 / 10

3: 5 / 10 (As with the above, they aren't always fully about some recent occurance, but might include an element that definitely ties into sometime I experienced recently.)

4: .4 / 10 (Most of the dreams I remember are pretty "out there". The world would be a mad place if much of my dreams came true!)

5: 0 / 10 (I've felt strong senses of deja vu before but haven't chocked it down to a dreams, but a real past experiences.)

Here are my responses:

1. On average, how often do you remember your dreams from the previous night?

Hardly. I'd say maybe twice a month.

2. How often are they about things that happened the previous day?

Never, as far as I can tell.

3. The previous week?

My dreams never seem to have anything to do with the past.

4. Have you ever dreamed something and had it come true?

As far as I know, no.

5. Do you feel like you've prophesied in a dream and just don't remember it? (maybe you experienced deja vu at a time and felt it was dream-related)

I've had deja vu's. I used to get it a lot, but not sure if this answers your question? My opinion is they are not some kind of prediction or premonition.

Don't remember them quite as often as I did... mostly because I don't get enough sleep playing on CAA.

Almost all dreams have some form of relation to the previous day... unless your day was uneventful in which case they can be very odd.

Err... I can't remember the previous day what makes you think I can remember the previous weeks events? (The police ask Pascal where he was last week... THE MOON :P... I think... or was it Earth :) )

Nope

Sometimes I've had the deja vu thing with the dreams but just deja vu... but that could be a false memory remember I can't even remember what happened last week :P.

1. practically never.
2. never.
3. Even more Never.
4. I have.
5. I don't think it's prophesied, but yeah, I've done that.

There is an interesting theory which I heard, which is that when you have a Deja-vu, it's actually just your brain making the mistake of remembering what just happened, as it's happening. Thus, you think of it as a memory immediately, instead of process it normally. Thus, when it's over, you remember dreaming it, or at least having previous memory of it.

Just thought I'd put that out there.

1. On average, how often do you remember your dreams from the previous night?

Not often. I remember a detail or event that stuck out(for example, the other night I had a dream that my friend shaved his head and had a crewcut, but nothing else)

2. How often are they about things that happened the previous day?

Not often.

3. The previous week?

Again, not often.

4. Have you ever dreamed something and had it come true?

Many times.

5. Do you feel like you've prophesied in a dream and just don't remember it? (maybe you experienced deja vu at a time and felt it was dream-related)

Not unless I remember the dream.
