dream meanings...GOD related?

Postby 12praiseGOD » Fri Nov 09, 2007 1:59 pm

hey guys, I just wanted to put a post were we could discuss what we think our dreams mean...like in terms of messages from GOD. Here is one I had, it was a long time ago, but I think it has gotten better...the message that is.

I pictured myself going up this hill with a lot of green grass and barren of trees on the hill. I walked up the hill and saw a house that had a fence around the house and half of the pool, the other half being outside of the fence boundaries. For some reason I knew it was the house of a chineese man. Strange enough as I went up to the house there was a sidewalk around the unfenced part of the pool, then beside the sidewalk was a lake. Then I saw my cat jump into the lake, so I dove into rescue him, but a strong force pulled me down half way like 10 or more feet, then I saw my dad dive in after me,and that same force pulled him down, yet it pulled him down all the way to the bottom. I could breath under water but could not escape into the surface, I felt desperate, and I think I prayed and thought how cool would it be if GOD sent an angel to rescue me and guess what seconds later I saw these gold wings from behind me that were shinning and sparkly, yet translucent. Then it pulled me up and set me out of the water, but I said I couldn't leave my dad there, so I dove back in still not seeing the angels face and got down to my dad. THe angel then pulled us back up to the surface. I don't know what happened to my cat, but as I walked back, I took a last look down at the water and there I saw the face of what I'm wanting to call an angel. It was distorded because of the water, and it is hard to describe, but it had sort of long hair and beautifull eyes and a special goldish splendor to it. Then my dad and I walked away and I told myself never to go near this house again.

What do you think it means, and please share some of your dreams.
huggles=)

Dream interpretation these days is highly subjective. Interpret however you will, but don't be surprised at any skepticism you receive. I usually keep 'em to myself and don't worry about any meanings. I mean, whenever someone in the Bible had a dream, there was a clear message from God integrated into them. Dreams for us are usually wishful thinking, hidden desires, or simply put, randomness.

My dreams are usually one of two types: utterly random, or composed of elements that clearly seem connected to my recent thoughts. While as a Christian I acknowledge the potential for dreams as messages, I hesitate to assign too much meaning to them. Sometimes God is just a cigar.

I sometimes dream about the endtimes, like the Second Coming and Aramageddon. And am always aussured by God to wait on the right woman to marry. I also get dreams about being in the Special Forces like some of my family were, my stories, and many other things.
Some of my favorite scriptures.

Psalm91
A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;
There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

Hebrews 4-4
1Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.
2For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
3For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
4For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.

James 4
Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.

Revelation 22:14
Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

Not too long ago, I asked God for a personal request... something I'm sure is 99% impossible of occuring in real life. I thought it was inane and stupid at the time I prayed it, (I still do) but because of the fact that it would be lucrative towards my personal life goal, and because of my great desire for such, I caved and asked for it anyways. I was (am?) fairly certain of its impossibility... but ever since that prayer request... things have been a bit strange. There will be times when, someone will be praying for me, and will say some (random?) phrase that to my mind will have (explicit reference?) to what I secretly asked for.

Most recently;

"Do not think it's impossible." (I was thinking of explicitly of this at the exact same time that was said.)

The other night... I dreamed twice that my desire came true. Both times were two different scenarios but with the same outcome. I never had to actually lift a finger to do anything... things just fell into place. Maybe it's stupid to think the dream meant anything at all... perhaps it was just a dream... I'm not sure why I'm even typing all this now. I dunno. I'm gonna feel kinda really stupid if I'm really just reading way too much into this... but...

I feel like God gives me dreams with messages. The summer before last, I had two different dreams. One was of a family member dying, the other about someone I loved in the dream. We went to the beach because my Grandmother who lived down there was getting surgery done. It went successful, but then there was another problem. There was toxins in her that her body was unabl to get out. We stayed down there for 2 weeks. We couldn't stay down there any longer. We went home on a Sunday; she died that night.
Just last month, I dreamed that a small boy I had just met died in an ant hill. I was then running from people dressed in white. (many of them looked like the Ku Klux Klan) The people dressed in black were protecting me. I slid down a hill, knowing I had to get somewhere to complete some kind of goal. The next night, around 11:40, my Mom got a phone call saying my Aunt died. I believe God was warning me of a death ahead of time. I believe He sends me messages through dreams, no matter how sarcastic society is about it.

I believe messages can come through dreams, and that it is just another way GOD tells us things. He can warn you of things, like when I was a bit down on my faith, I dremtp that I was in a prison and the only way to get out was by proclaiming Jesus name, and in that same dream I united with Christians that were in a sea to help me fight evil...a little randome, but the evil in my dream was a 2 story building size baby chicken, and so on. I also had that same dream had as though the devil disguised as my preacher, because somehow i knew it and reproached the "preacher and it turned into an evil spirt like thing...yeah I was around 11 or 12 when this happened and it was like a nightmare, but it helped me realize i was getting off of track, and i needed to get back. And so I did i guess. well anyways, if that dream made no sence to you tell me and I will tell you how the dream really went...at the hight of randomness. huggles.

I know that God's been trying to tell me something through my dreams. I usually dream about someone dying who I've never seen before, but that person always looks the exact same... When I don't dream about that, I dream about my death... I'm always older, around 30-40 something... And I just start to die...

When I don't dream about these two things, they usually have to do with the end of the world... I'm always up above, and am looking down upon the earth, seeing it incased in flames as I see people dying...

Otherwise, I dream about random, incredibly odd stuff.

My dreams tends to consist of extremely random content, usually culled from what I was focusing on recently. One has to be careful especially when something recent shows up in a dream, such as content related to people you see on a regular basis, since dreams are often just a method for your mind to sort through and organize previously observed data, it can put them together in a very bizarre fashion. I've had many dreams about dying, and never come close to dying death or whatever within any close proximity of time to the dream.

Data(cutting into the Datashape cake Troi baked for him):"I wonder what Dr.Freud would say about the significance of the imagery.."
Troi:"Data EVEN Freud would say that,'Sometimes a cake is just a cake'."

IMO we too often look for meaning in the meaningless. Why should every dream have a meaning to it?Most dreams mean only that one ate too much
before bed and bear no real spiritual significance to our lives, although they may in fact bear meaning to our stomachs!

I'm sorry but the cake is a downright fabrication. A lie. A fib. It is nonexistent because it does not exist because it is a lie; a lie which you fell for.

Dreams can convey meaning, but they are usually not at all meaningful. No one's sure why we dream. Some think dreams are caused by how our brains work while we are asleep. A very large portion of the brain is used to process and interpret what our eyes see. While we are asleep, so the theory goes, this portion of the brain is used to process and store data/memories - causing us to "see" often random, unrelated events they we occasionally remember after waking up.

Whatever the cause, I am reluctant to place any meaning on a dream I’ve had only once. I think it is far more likely that if “something” is trying to send you a message, it will send it over and over again.

well I don't mean that all dreams have a GOD related meaning, but I do believe there are exceptions. There are times like we dream of death or being clotheless or things, I have been thaught that that means problems, and the best way to prevent them is to pray to GOD to protect you form them and so on. Anyways...I think it depends on the person and their life. by the way, most of my dreams are randomness at the max. The 2 dreams I have posted are about the only 2 that I have been able to remember vividly, that I believe have a meaning...a special meaning. Any ways. the dream that I was talking about earlier is as follows.

I was in my house with a friend and we were running away from this dark spirit. We ran into the bathroom and it tried to enter. THen I found myself alone in a a white room, then all of the sudden 2 giant chiken bones began to fall like pillars trying to squish me! After that I found myself infornt of this giant baby chicken that was trying to eat me. So then I find myself in an ocean, not far from the shore, and there are these people in the ocean that are Christians and I tell them to please come and help me fight this evil! so they do. THen I find myself riding on the back of this giant chicken. Later I am in this jail, that only consists of sacks to keep you in and a gate, but for some reason I cant escape, so there is my nanny at the gate and the only way to get out was by saying the name of Jesus, I was reluctant at first, I don't know why, but then I say well thats easy and get out. Then I enter this beautiful city, and I look around and find this office, that for some reason i knew I had to go into. So I go in and its actually a buss stop. So I check if the name of my nany and family are on the list and they say no, so I say to myself, they must have not arrived yet. Then I turn around and see my preacher, and he approaches to say hi and I reprehend him saying that he wasnt my preacher, but was that evil spirit. Then it turns into the original form from the begining of the dream, and I run into the bus's waiting room, and now am safe, and deep inside know that my family is there also. ....random maybe, ?

I'm sorry but I have to disagree with you there. God does talk to his people through ''most' dreams, take Daniel, Enoch, John, Moses, just about everyone in the Biible. IMo dreams are one of the ways he talks to us.
Some of my favorite scriptures.

Thats what I was just about to say Gabriel...you just have to look all over the Bible how GOD reveals messages in dreams...besides the ones Gabriel posted, many times GOD told Joseph, Mary(mother of Jesus) things in dreams, Also to many others, many of the revelations in the Bible are by dream. ANyways I had a really weird dream last night. I drempt that my cat stayed for a day with my nice neighbors, adn that we were all sitting by a built up pool and then That my neighbor told me that my cat had drowned in some prezzing water...but the cat was beside me, a little sick looking. Supposedly she said that my cat fell in the pond with ice on the top and that it got caught under the ice. Then I rapped my cat in some blankets and brought him up to my house and told my dad, I believe I prayed and then I pictured myself days latter with my cat being really healthy...anyone got any ideas of what this could mean?

P.S. I wonder if it means something was going to die today...I saw my cat carrying a bird in its mouth still alive. I tried to rescue the poor bird, but my cat hissed at me and ran past a fence to were I couldn't get to him. I know he kills things, but its not so nice to see....uhhh! *sticks out tonge*

Recall that the Bible is a selective history. If you take all the dreams in the Bible you end up with only a handful (depending on how much a dream weighs, I guess). Considering that the Bible contains millions of people who probably had dreams every single night, you have billions of dreams and only an exceedingly small percentage that are said to be from God.

I wouldn't go talking percentages based on that, because most of the dreams are simply not mentioned, but it is safe to say that, while God does send dreams, not all dreams are from God. Some dreams are from the cold pizza you ate just before bed.

...and some dreams are the psychic manifestation of Cthulhu beginning to wake...

Oh, well don't mind me, I'm just still ill from the Flu.
It could have meant that. True God has dobne that for his people countless of times.

I'm not sure about that UC.......It certainly can't be a small number of God inspired dreams. Just about everybody in the Bible received dreams from him, and I've heard how people have gotten dreams from him as well. I myself included.

Gabriel 9.0 wrote:Just about everybody in the Bible received dreams from him

Uh...the number of people in the Bible who received dreams are few. It wasn't "just about everybody," it was for all intents and purposes almost nobody.

In fact, let me do a search.

People God has spoken to in dreams in the Bible:

Abimelech, Jacob, Laban, Joseph (the one with the colored coat), the baker, the cupbearer, the Pharaoh, a man Gideon heard talking, Solomon, Nebuchadnezzar, Joseph (the husband of Mary), and the magi.

Wow. Just about everybody, huh? That's 12 people the Bible says had dreams from God. Only 12, out of the thousands of people mentioned. Even in the entirety of the Bible the number of people who received dreams from God is incredibly small.
and I've heard how people have gotten dreams from him as well. I myself included.

Obviously, only God knows whether or not He has given you a dream. So I will not say that I don't believe you, because obviously, I do not know. However, I admit that I am very skeptical whenever someone claims to have a dream from God. As has been stated before, dreams are influenced by so many things in our lives that more often than not searching for meaning in them is fruitless.

By the way. All those people I mentioned? Most of them each had only ONE dream inspired by God in their entire lives, only two or three had more than one, but even then it wasn't like they had one every other week, I think the most dreams from God any person has had mentioned in the Bible is either two or three...I'm too lazy to look. I know Nebuchadnezzar had two, Joseph the husband of Mary had two, and the other Joseph had at LEAST two if not three. But no more than three. So as you can see, most people it's a once-in-a-lifetime occurrence, only a rare few had more than one but they still didn't have that many. So you can see it's extremely, unbelievably rare.

Now perhaps you see why I am so skeptical of these claims of divinely inspired dreams.

You can't forget about Enoch, John, Daniel, Ezekiel and every other Prophet.

That's more than just 12 people. I'm certain God spoke to them through more than one , even if it isn't mentioned much.

Only one or dreams are mentioned , we can't forget Jesus did many things that weren't even mentioned in the Bible. So it is very possible he spoke to them more than once or twice via a dream .

I can understand why you're skeptical about it though. And I thank you for not saying I didn't get dreams from God. I did though see him in my dreams and still continue to do so.

All I was saying is that God uses that along with other means to talk to us.
Some of my favorite scriptures.

Psalm91
A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;

Conjecture and assumption is not evidence. We can only go on what the Bible says, and the Bible says, these people had one (sometimes two). "I think that..." or "I believe..." cannot take authority over the Bible.
Only one or dreams are mentioned , we can't forget Jesus did many things that weren't even mentioned in the Bible.

The things He did were not mentioned, but it WAS mentioned that He did them. You're referring to the verse that says something like, "Jesus performed many other miracles that are not recorded in this book," I'm guessing. Yes, it doesn't say what they were, but it says that He did them. If the Bible said, "Joseph had many other divine dreams that are not recorded in this text" then perhaps your argument would have a little more validity.
And I thank you for not saying I didn't get dreams from God. I did though see him in my dreams and still continue to do so.

I never am quick to assume anyone is lying when God is mentioned, unless it's obvious that they can't be telling the truth, for example, I would definitely say it wasn't true if someone said "God told me in a dream to kill everyone in Rhode Island!"

However, I WILL go ahead and say I do not believe that you see God in your dreams. I shall provide Biblical evidence.

But," he said, "you cannot see my face, for no one may see me and live." - God talking to Moses in Exodus 33:20

No one can see God and live. Moses only saw God's back, but not His face. Why? God is so pure and holy, and we are so wicked and sinful, that we would not be able to stand looking at that which is perfect and supremely awesome.

Again, everything must be judged by the Bible. The Bible, and more importantly, God Himself says explicitly that no one can see His face and live to tell the tale.

Visions ≠ dreams. The only ones who God spoke to through dreams are those 12 I mentioned. God spoke to the rest through visions.

True those people did, but so did Daniel, Ezekiel, Cornelius and others.

And God also says this , so is very possible that others in the Bible did get dreams from besides the 12 you listed:

Jeremiah 33:3 “Ask me and I will tell you some remarkable secrets about what is going to happen here.â€

Aw Jeepers, here we go...:shady:.....

I have a feew two cent's worth about this and I'll try to keep it brief:

1. I believe that God can speak to us through dreams, and that there is a reason for every dream we dream.....

....but.....

2. I don't believe that all dreams come from Him...In fact, some might even be one's placed in our head by Satan himself...

So, yeah, I think God can speak to us, but that we should be careful of these dreams....

For example, I think I dreamed some time ago that a very close friend would die. I don't know how, but I would keep hereing a voice tell me, "She's going to die." It worried me sick for the longest time. I finally talked about to a close Bro in the Lord and he said, "Well, that dream is true.....we all die....eventually. But that's not for us to decide and if it happens, it happens...."

So, again I say make sure where your dreams are coming from.

Kaligraphic wrote:I wouldn't go talking percentages based on that, because most of the dreams are simply not mentioned, but it is safe to say that, while God does send dreams, not all dreams are from God. Some dreams are from the cold pizza you ate just before bed.

What I mean is that because so few dreams were mentioned out of the billions that had to exist, that suggests that these few were the exceptions, not the rule.

Gabriel 9.0 wrote:I'm not sure about that UC.......It certainly can't be a small number of God inspired dreams. Just about everybody in the Bible received dreams from him, and I've heard how people have gotten dreams from him as well. I myself included.

I don't want to drop this point of discussion, but Nate has already continued it in a very similar manner to what I might have written, so I will move to the most recent post.

I could go over those one by one, but that will hopefully not be unnecessary. Except for the Daniel passage (which is arguable but would just add him to the list of 12), none of those are actually about dreams. God has theoretically countless ways of communicating (many of which are used far more than dreams in the biblical account), so those verses don't necessitate dreams given by God.

Recall that we're not arguing God's ability to give dreams, but whether this is common place.

It is also possible that those scriptures can also refer to God talking to us through dreams as well since many other scriptures do have more than one meaning about a specific thing. I agree what you say about that God has more than one way to communicate with us.

In Nate's defense, that is a valid argument. So is yours, but these two points don't directly conflict. What you are saying is that it is possible there are dream accounts of which we do not know. What he is saying is that unlike the Jesus example, we do not have a reason to assume they exist. Yes, there could very well be other dreams, or there could be absolutely none outside of those listed (not that I mean to disrespect anyone making such claims today).

That is all I was trying to say in the first place, thanks for helping out.

My point on the matter is that GOD has billions of ways to comunicate to us how HE feels on what were are doing... you can feel HIM, you can pray to HIM, you can have a vision, a dream, whatever way GOD thinks is best for us to understand. I agree that not every dream is GOD related, but you should once in a while look for meanings in dreams just like some people look for hidden messages in every word JESUS said. It is true that there are only a few dreams mentioned in the Bible...but think of it, what if one of the prophets had a dream that their dog was going to die...they are not necessarily going to put that in the Bible. Plus the Bible was written many years ago...more than a thousand...i believe by now there have been more GOD related dreams, anywho have you had any weird dreams lately? Oh one more thing that just poped into my mind....Remember, oh what is his name. the 11th son of Jacob that became the prince of Egypt after being sold into slavery...don't you remeber his gift the Interpretation of Dreams, that must mean that at least some dreams are GOD related...please remind me of the name if you remember it!

Okay adding my two cents as well...

as being one who has recieved dreams from teh Lord that have meant some tings, while others are from my own imagination and while others still have been from the devil himsedlf...God can use many means in which to communicate to us...so I will not limit him to say that He cannot, while in the same breathe, dreams are also dreams and not all are from the Lord.
I am on the forefront of battle against the demons of earth. All Praise and Glory be given to God Forever and Ever!
