Also for those of you reading Dekker's books (good choices, a highly commend you) I would reccommend his books in the following order.

Thr3e - Because it is his best book, and is a standalone.
Skin - Because it is almost as good as Thr3e.
Obssessed - Because it is another stand alone book. Not to mention a good one!

Next he starts a series of books that, to be fully understood and appreciated, should be read in the following order.

Black
Red
White
Showdown
Saint
House

Those are all his famous books anyways, happy reading.

Showdown, Saint and Skin are all a series type read. however I don't know which one comes first, all I know is Skin is the most recent.

and to stay on topic, i'm reading Monster by Peretti.

I'm working through Perelandra as a school project. After that I'm going to read Dirty Magic that I got from my library.

Just today, I finished Dune by Frank Herbert. ("About time too!" cries a chorus of all the books sitting on my shelf, waiting to be read.) This was an outstanding read, about a desert planet and her prophet, Muad'Dib. I loved all the abstract thoughts about prescience and prophecy, as well as the political intrigue. And to top it off, there was a ton of reference to Middle Eastern culture and language :jump: It caught me up in such a whirlwind of confusion and excitement that Robert Jordan's twelve-book series (with every book at least 700 pages, I might add) doesn't seem all that daunting anymore. I'm very happy to have read Dune, though it might be a while before I read the other books in the series.

Next book on the list: The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon.

I've been reading the Left Behind series. I'm on book 2 of the adult version, and I just finished book 17 of the kids version.

The Politics of the Apocalypse by Dan Cohn-Sherbok

A book on Christian Zionism by a Jewish rabbi. So far I am not finding it tremendously engaging, but this is probably just writing style - the ideas themselves are significant and interesting. My hope is that once he gets out of the historical roots section it will flow better for me.

Under Vine and Fig Tree by Alain Epp Weaver

With a variety of authors, it should provide a decent variety of perspectives on the subject of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. However, I am somewhat disappointed by how much some of the chapters take one side of the matter.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon

A very interesting story written from the perspective of a boy with Asperger's Syndrome. I'm loving every minute of it.

The Famished Road by Ben Okri

So far I am not enjoying it at all, so I am glad it reads so quickly. If he is aiming for magical realism or symbolic plotting, I'm not seeing it. If it is simply fantasy or a more spiritual view of the world, I find it rather uninteresting.

Still reading Showdown, only it just occurred to me that if a movie is ever made based on it, Project 86's "My Will Be a Dead Man" would be perfect as the opening theme music.

Oh, forgot to post in here. I finished The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time (and loved every minute of it!), then went to finish Myst: The Book of Ti'ana, a book I'd been putting off finishing for a long time. And then I was so caught up in the feeling of Myst that I started Myst: The Book of D'ni, and that's the book I'm reading right now. I've discovered that I enjoy the books with Atrus as the main character more than The Book of Ti'ana, probably because I already feel as though I know him from the games, and there's constant references to the games in his words and thoughts. And because I was practically breathing Myst, I went back to play the old original game (I laughed when it said the space required on the hard drive was 4 MB  ).

A People's History of the United States by Howard Zinn

This is a classic critical history of the US, but I'm actually reading it because I'm doing a massive paper on Howard Zinn. More accurately, I will be reading as much it as necessary. While it is well-written and interesting, it is also 600+ pages.

I finished Myst: The Book of D'ni. Wow, that went fast. I was happy to see my suspicions about a certain race of people confirmed. It made me feel smart :hits_self

Next up: The Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens.

A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens. I've only read the first chapter so far, but it's wonderful to read such heavy stuff again, after reading several much lighter books.

A major problem I've noticed among my non-christian friends is that most of them came from Christian family backgrounds and then got burned by the Church, or more specifically, by a "bad Christian." Thus I picked up a book from work called When Bad Christians happen to Good People. It's an interesting read.

Awesome! Someone else has read that mammoth? XD I enjoyed BK, though I'll admit that if I hadn't already known that I love Dostoevsky, I might never have gotten through. I was reading a used book, where the last owner had written some notes in the margins, so I added some of my own. One of my favorite chapters is the one where
Ivan Fyodorovitch sees the Devil in his room.
Have you read Crime and Punishment?

Bethlehem Besieged by Mitri Raheb

Short stories from a Palestinian Christian pastor living in Bethlehem during the occupation. The writing isn't excellent but has a simple style that doesn't get in the way of the power of the stories. Overall I've been impressed by this guy's theology.

I've just finished The Siege of Vienna: The Last Great Trial Between Crescent and Cross by John Stoye.

I'm now reading The Stone of Heaven: The Secret History of Imperial Green Jade by Cathy Scott-Clark and Adrian Levy. Basically, the book details the history of jadeite (which is not true jade, or nephrite) since the mid-eighteenth century.
The scientific method," Thomas Henry Huxley once wrote, "is nothing but the normal working of the human mind." That is to say, when the mind is working; that is to say further, when it is engaged in corrrecting its mistakes. Taking this point of view, we may conclude that science is not physics, biology, or chemistry—is not even a "subject"—but a moral imperative drawn from a larger narrative whose purpose is to give perspective, balance, and humility to learning.

I'm reading that too! Isn't his writing simply amazing?!! I'm all over the writing. I don't quite get the point of the plot yet, but I'm not very far into it yet. My brother said that it's worth reading all the boring parts just for the ending.

You mean the single-story joint? For about a buck more you can get Skeleton Crew, which contains that and a bunch of other stories. Not all of those are good though, but a number of them are definitely worth reading.

Me, I'm reading Xanth book 2 -The Source of Magic.
