Scandinavians?
Well, I was only wondering if there are any Scandinavians here on the board?

Then I don't count, but ethnically, I am. I'm combined Iowa Norsk and Iowa Svensk (but living in Texas, where I grew up.)

Okay, well, we may include "ethnical" Scandinavians then :-P
I had hoped that there were a lot of people here living in Scandinavia, but when there isn't, let's change the "rules" ;-)

You shouldn't just limit your friendship to just Scandinavians. Finnish people need love too. I'm not Finnish or Swedish but I think it's pretty cool learning the Finnish language.

Wel, heh, most people would say that Finland is a part of Scandinavia as well, but I have my doubts, since Swedish, Danish and Norweighan (spelling?) can understand each other, but Finnish is unable to understand for us...
So, I'd suggest that you'd learn Swedish instead, since then you would be able to communicate with Swedes, Danes, Norweighans and most Finnish people as well
I don't understand Finnish, so I have no idea what you just wrote.
Oh, and I am not trying to "limit" my circle of friends here, I'm just curious :-P

I thought all the Swedes and Norwegians went to Minnesota where they produced Hercules...er..Kevin Sorbo!

Seriously though Minnesota does have a large number of Scandinavians.
I think it has to do with the climate reminding them of where they came from.The fact is the Upper Midwest as a lot of people of Scandinavian
descent.
btw:The town in southwestern Minnesota where my family lived when I was younger was actually Dutch.

I can verify the density of the Scandinavian herd in Minnesota. My stepmother is from Bloomington and all her family, friends,or acquaintances back home are Danish, Swede or Norskie. (She's a Dane-Swede mix, herself, maiden name 'Nelson'.)
However, my dad is from one of the highest density Norwegian settlements in the US, the area around Decorah, IA, which is just south of the Minnesota border. My mom was one of the many Swedes in Des Moines.
Iowa has more Swedes than Norwegians in most areas (Mrs. Olsen from the old Coffee commercials was Iowan, not Swedish. I know this because my grandmother actually knew her) but Decorah is all Norwegians and Czechs, making for some very interesting cultural festivities. There are enough Norwegians in the area that the current king of Norway made multiple visits there while he was crown prince.

Finnish is not an Indoeuropean language. It is a Uralic language, along with Estonian, and Hungarian, and maybe related to Mongolian and Korean if I am not mistaken.
I am about 1/4 scandinavian. I had a Swedish-born great grandfather and a Swedish-speaking, Finnish-born great grandmother.
