How did you find CAA?

Postby RidleyofZebes » Tue Oct 23, 2007 3:53 pm

My story starts back around, oh... July of '06. My mom was surfing the internet trying to find out more about this strange new "Japanimation" thing I'd taken an interest in. She stumbles across... I believe it was christianmanga.com. At first, I wasn't interested. It wasn't until about a month later I knew what was going on. My sister had jumped all over the discovery of the place and somehow had come up with all of these different comics. She then showed me CAA and it's wonders. I had already heard so much about people like UC, Mave, Psycho Ann, etc. from my sister, I felt like I knew them, or something. Then, I get here and find out that they're admins and stuff, so yeah. I joined.

This place rocks. 'Nuff said.

Share how you came to know this place, our beloved CAA!

I find it crisp and refreshing.
Seriously though, I'm pretty sure we've had a thread like this before. But since it's probably sunk 20,000 leagues under the internet by now, it's probably okay to start a new one.

As an aside, there's a certain contradiction in rules that I've always been confused about: "No gravedigging" vs. "If a thread like this already exists somewhere, use that one." Could someone clear that up for me?

I think the "use the thread that's already there" probably has a statute of limitations on it, but don't ask me how long that is.

On topic, however, flyers for CAA ware floating around the first Animazement I attended, so I took one home and checked the place out. The rest, as they say, is history.

Anyways, I first joined CAA back in May of '05. I had recently found a Rurouni Kenshin forum called "The-oro.net," and it was there that I met ChristianKitsune. She had posted some artwork, mentioning that she had cross-posted the piece from a Christian anime site. Realizing that Christian + anime would more likely than not = Awesome site, I asked her for the link, and she sent it to me. And here I am today! XD

Christian + anime would more likely than not = Awesome site

This is probably the *only* useful formula in life, XDDD.

Anyways, my story is a bit more. . .dramatic?

Many months ago, I googled "christian anime" and found this site. I thought, "Oh, cool. Other Christian anime fans," and then went on to do something else.

Fast forward to this summer while I was in China. About three weeks before we went home, I had a *massive* trial. Among other things, I seriously thought I was the only Christian anime fan in existance. I wondered if it was okay for a Christian to like anime, so I googled it. And then I found those *lovely* "ANIME IS EVIL" articles. Man, did those things just add to my already crappy feelings.

So in the midst of venting all my broken feelings to my mom through a series of emails, she linked CAA. After that, I went to the site every day and read bunches and bunches of threads for hours, and that helped me see that Christianity+anime=possible.

When I got back to the States, I finally got an account and voila! CAA now has it's resident happycake vendor! ^.^

So Lady R, while having those frustrations, did you like forget that you had seen the site before?

I can't say I remember, actually ^^;;;; it was back in 2005...I must have found it on a search engine. I was probably looking up 'Christian anime' and stumbled across it. Actually I think I remember seeing Christianmanga.net first cuz I remember the background was a cute drawing of a guy and chick and it said stuff like "Why did she forgive me? Why did YOU forgive me?"

I remember finding it before I turned 13 in July and didn't join cuz I THOUGHT it told me I had to be 13. Appearently not, since there are 12-year-olds here all the time. Anyway, a bit-I think just a couple weeks-after turning 13 I got around to joining and was glad I did!

It twas on a search engine.....

Ok, let's backup....My curiosity with anime had been going on for about a year, and around that time I would often search for things via Yahoo search engine. So, one day I wondered, "Hmmm, what would I find if I type in "Christian anime?"

Though, at first I was wondering if I might find any anime that was really Christian. But guess who appeared on the list instead?......

At first, it was just for reviews of anime that I had recently seen on amvs on youtube. Then I started looking at the forums, and was wondering, "wow, this place looks like a great place to talk to others like myself".....

And you know what?.....I was right.......

I remembered after I saw it the second time, XDDD. Really though, finding this site was basically(at the time) like "Hey, you're not a bad Christian *at all.* Look at all these other people in your position."

Yep, I found this website the same way Blitzkrieg found it, from CAA flyer at an Animazement convention which was at the end of may this year. I was like "Cool there is finally christian anime", but to my surprise it was a Christian anime forum which is doubley good. And ever since Ive been coming back for more and enjoying every minute of it!

I found this site one day through Plugged In magazine in 2004. I wondered around here as a guest for about 2 years and then got the courage to join this site. Next month will be one year, since I have joined this ever growing site.

Same here. It was at Animazement 2007 for me. Which I thank God for because I was feeling very lonely at the end of the con, and not just because it ended.

I suppose I should post a real answer to this question, since I already started with a joke and an off-topic question.

In the winter of '03, I was a Christian who was, shall we say, "not where he should be." I thought I knew a lot of things about the faith, and I amused myself by looking up video game reviews from Christian websites, chuckling smugly at their ultra-conservative little nitpicks (e.g. Final Fantasy X getting bad reviews for its extensive use of magic, mysticism, false gods etc). Yeah, I thought I was better than a lot of other Christians who "didn't get it." I was just getting into anime at the time and I decided to look up Christian reviews for various series that I'd heard of/ seen a bit of. A website called Christian Anime Alliance popped up in a google search for "Christian anime reviews" and, I found myself intrigued by the name. I followed the link, already feeling my cynical exterior falling away bit by bit, exploring the site and growing to like it more and more. So I figured "why not?" and joined. It was free anyway, right? Even if I don't like it, no big loss.
That was nearly four years ago. I love it here. This site has done so much for me. I'm a different person, better now, more humble in my own Christian views. God bless the CAA, the people who started it, all the friends I've made here and all the friends I will make.
That's my story.

Hmm...I was in 9th grade in business class. We had free time and my friend and I were looking for anime stuff when I wondered if there was such thing as "Christian anime". I googled it, and this website came up (I lurked around for a while looking at the "Pilgrim's Progress" stuff).

I didn't join then because I went on an anime hiatus (I just suddenly got sick of it). This year I found this website again while looking for Christian anime (deja vu) and was like "Hey, I think I'll join." So here I am.

Google. You can find almost anything on Google. XD

So anyway, I was really frustrated a while back that I couldn't find much anime or manga out there that suited my interests, and I was too chicken to actually open up any manga at the bookstore, for fear of seeing something objectionable. Then the thought occured to me, "Hey, you know how those Christian sites like Plugged In Online use that really cool categorized content method for reviewing movies? What if they had that for anime/manga?" So I searched for Christian Anime Reviews (I think it was) and found this site. I was overjoyed.

Soon afterwards I thought, "Hm, why not join the forums? This site seems nice enough." And here I am today. :)

*sings*

THE POWER OF GOOGLE!

The reasons why?

I wanted to find a forum where I could permentally place myself and never move again (I had gone to over 7 forums before coming here). I loved Anime at the time and still love anime today. I also wanted a Christian community to share my faith as I had a very bad experience with a public forum before coming here. So trust and being in a community that fit me very well was exactly what I was looking for.

I had the idea, "I wonder if there are any Christian anime fan sites?" I typed it in Google and CAA was the first result. I clicked in, looked around, and joined the day after.

The rest is history.

when I frist started looking I fond a homeschool site that had a link here but never realy looked around. I kept looking for a christian anime site and fond some "christian are freaks and they hate anime" sites, and "Anime is evil you are evil for liking it" sites it sucked cause I already thought I was a bad christian for liking anime(It also wasn't helping with the fact that I wasn't sure if I belived in God but God use it to show Himself to me).

Then I got mad at googel and put in:
GIVE ME CHRIATIAN SITE FOR ANIME FANS AND A FEW FRUITS BAKET LOVERS WOULD BE NICE!!!!
or something pontless like that, and I got CAA!

I'm thankfull that I fond it! It's shown me that not all christian are two face, I almost hated christians before I came here and saw how great all of you are! I thank God for this site!

For me, I found a flyer at one of the anime cons I attended and just logged in to check it out and found it better than the other sites that allowed people to use words that I don't use in my everyday life. If I do, you really have to get me really MAD and ready to fight someone.

There are two popular stories of my coming here, both much discussed among academics and scholars. I shall relay both:

One says that I was lured here by a shining object tied to a string. I think it was a lemon Lifesaver. Or maybe an ancient Chinese coin from the Ming Dynasty. Doesn't matter, really; I never got it. The minute I got here I was chained to a sink floating on a leaky barge and I had to wash dishes faster than they could stack it so that I wont sink. Oh the horrors I endured when they added sharks to the tank!

The second story is less exciting: Google search for Christian Anime. I joined only to write a review for the anime The Castle of Cagliostro anime and decided to stay. This story has come under scrutiny of late by CAA Academics who believe I joined only to post absurd posts. I can't vouch for any of these stories since I am the Walrus. Goo goo ga choo.
